exactly one year after the release of their second album m eanderlust, randweg r elease their first ep with remixes - by nick höppner, alex.do, luke abbott and in a left place. the double-a-sided anderlus t / requisetales ep appears on funken records to understand how this record is intended, take a closer look at the artwork: no matter how you turn it: a backside does not exist. on their upcoming anderlust / requisetales ep, randweg present rearrangements of tracks from their two former albums. the new versions clearly bear the signature of their producers, but the tracks also reflect the full range of the duo, which has found its very own sound with clarinet, bass and cajon. for the remixes of two tracks from the ir album m eanderlust, randweg attracted nick höppner and alex.do. you can hear the joy both producers had playing with the original material, which was the basis of their versio ns for the anderlust-side. while nick höppner transfers the calmly prancing wokules walzer into a subtle but euphoric house-track, alex.do slows down the tempo in his version of pool, and plunges down deep into a warm downbeat-bath. randweg ’s debut-album equisetales was released in 2013, and it would have been a pity if the two remixes from the early days of the duo remained unheard in their private archives. luke abbott surprises with an abstract-pl ayful version of the track ball a nd in a left place turns y ofa into an atmospheric club-track.

kreattones third release is here, and we are extremely proud and thrilled to present “day tripper” from the outrageously talented jesse bru. this four-track ep is a lesson on sampling, cutting and building, an aspect already acclaimed and recognized by all that had the chance to hear jesse s work (released on heart to heart, egoplanet, etc…). the opening track shares the ep title and clearly demonstrates mr. bru’s vision on deep-house, with elements coming and going, breaks and drops, all working in perfect harmony. “i want u” is a groundbreaking piece of art, filled with melancholy, heart-driven feelings and shivering whispers, resulting in a gorgeous love song. the first track on the b side, “they told me” is a uplifting tune, with clinic-cut sampling, powerful vocals and beautiful percussion. last but not least “remember how it used to be”, a groovy arrangement of pads and vocals topped with a killer bass, ideal for club use. considering that this one blew our scale, we hope you enjoy this record as much as we do.

mjm would like to present locations: usa, the vinyl and cassette edition as we continue to explore the sounds, influences and styles of jazz music in different regions of the world.
in this session we hear the result of each jouster as they each chose one or more jazz musicians from the united states and began to work with that sound and come up with an instrumental in their own style, just like in season four. however there was a twist, this time they were challenged to focus on jazz between the years of 1960 to 1969. see what you think of the outcome...

two deep and driving house tunes by baaz! since the release of his last sol 12inch „swimmer“ (sol5) quite a bit has happened: baaz founded his own successful label office recordings, he has also created a new moniker for his dub techno productions as -eric miller-. his love of dubby sounds and echo chambers can be experienced in „the reason“ and „ancestor s fun“, although it s obvious that baaz also stays true to his deep house roots. he skillfully combines spacial structures with his characteristic driving beats and organic sounds. -the reason- is a grooving light footed tune with a jumping bassline and develops, step by step, this driving energy, that will not let you go. -ancestor s fun- brings up the energy level with stronger beats and open high hats, but the playful warm sounds and drifting strings keeps the wonderful flow that we love to hear from baaz s productions

open returns to close the year with its third release on the growing uk based imprint. italian duo dnart join the label and provide what can only be descirbed as an incredible old school house vibe illustrating their true passion for solid sounds and hardware. having released on labels such as anma and shift limited its great to hear their passion on this ep one . joining the release for remix duties are nick beringer and frazer campbell. nick beringer is an exploding artists with a full library of sold out releases and clear to see why with his drivey remix of short story. frazer campbell of open and elliot project remixed zzyzx with an unexpected percussive version to close off open s third release

kiki gyan’s star didn’t burn long, but it burned bright. drafted into the afro funk super group, osibisa, at 15, he was millionaire by 18 and regarded as one of the best keyboardists in the world by 21. ‘life was good, man,’ he told journalist kweku sakyi-addo. ‘too good!’. in 1983 he dived head first into the new york party scene. he took a lot of drugs, spent a lot of time in clubs and got together a team of crack local musicians to record feelin’ alright, his third and final solo album. all the kiki gyan trademark elements are present and correct. the album is unique a blend of highlife music with electronic funk and disco. ‘rosemary’ follows the formula most closely and was a hit across nigeria and ghana. but on ‘give it to me’, ‘love to love you’ and the title track, you’ll hear a slicker, boogie-influenced sound that has made feelin’ alright one of his most sought-after albums. kiki gyan would never hit such heights again. his addictions eventually took hold and he died aged 47, destitute and alone. feelin’ alright remains one of the brightest stars in his extraordinary constellation.

tiga is back to tell you what youve always needed to hear with his new single eye luv u. co-produced by one half of paranoid london, the new single harnesses all the pure source energy of what enlightened club-goers often describe as their favourite emotion. the title came to me while i was playing a pyramid that had been converted into a multi-purpose event space, says the canadian dj/producer. the hieroglyphics over what is now the coat check made me imagine a world in which pictures could mean words and words could mean anything. the thing about wordplay is that its fascinating to conceive of different realities informed by different systems of meaning, and how each reality would invariably bend to vault me to the pinnacle of all possible worlds. its humbling, really.

its a pleasure to introduce tony rainwater, undoubtedly the most productive and creative savage weve come across recently. see usually we dont do this, lehult is a crew affair, but this guy left us no choice. being a music enthusiast, dj and dancer for a long time, tony has only most recently picked up producing his own music, yet at a stunning rate: when we first asked him for a demo, three months after he started producing, he swiftly dropped us a set of twenty-five tracks, another set of fifty more soon followed. his productions are straight rough edged, no-prisoners-taken jams, combining samples from the most far-flung corners of his eclectic music collection. his magical patchwork wild style is on full display on his debut rockberry jam ep for lehult. the a-side takes us through the lighter side of his repertoire with the title tracks slow building house groove, some dizzy medieval monk grooves on to all the world and seductive r&b on lay it on the line. on the flip operalight irresistible groove and black dream flowers provide some darker moments, before alone closes on a soft note. the vinyl version includes an extra goodie after the runouts. tony is now a fixed member of the crew already and were proud to have him and his crazy energy on the team. this wont be the last youll hear of him.

»young americans« ist das neunte studioalbum von david bowie. es erschien ursprünglich bereits 1975. was die musik auf »young americans« angeht, so verließ bowie sein gewohntes rock-terrain und arbeitete stattdessen mit verschiedenen soul- und funkmusikern sowie mit beatles-legende john lennon zusammen.
das album landete auf platz zwei der uk-charts. in den usa erreichte es platz neun. zu den erfolgreichsten singles gehörten der titeltrack »young americans« sowie der song »fame«, der es in den usa bis auf platz eins schaffte.

rune lindbaek joins bastedos on this new edition featuring two tracks from polar oposites of the bpm spectrum. side a from bastedos features a pacey electronic number with flavours of both rock and disco and a singer making the asertion that i just wanna dance, i just wanna boogie, surely any listener will be left with a similar desire when they hear this at their favourite discotetheque. rune slows it down a gear or two for the flip with his version of supermann, this is a perfect end of the night track that would melt the hips of even the man of steel.

avid sequence is a young fresh artist from malta. his music can be intense and energetic with that hint of tension as we can hear in the three tracks he kindly produced for the label. label owner hail blk remixed the second track(bermuda), giving it a grittier approach with his usual trademark percussive elements.

nights get ever colder. the label owned by paris stalwart d’julz welcomes back an old friend in anonym, the man responsible for bcr006 and bcr021 returns for a four-track outing which includes a remix from orlando voorn. sultry atmospherics and masterful production are evident throughout this crisp new addition to the bass culture catalogue, another instant classic from the detroit badboy anonym.the first of the four tracks on this ep goes by the name of ‘castaway’, and its effortless groove will have you drifting away to a desert island the second you hear it. as a slightly obscured vocal repeats ‘castaway’ over and over, you’re lulled into a dreamlike state. simple and highly effective, its progression is subtle and invigorating. right after that we have dutch supremo orlando voorn taking charge of the remix and pushing the track deeper into celestial territory with flashes of synth that transport you out into the cosmos. the atmosphere of the original is expertly retained, with a steady pace and cool, mellow vibes throughout. flip the record over and there are two more killer cuts. first we have ‘doin it to ya body’, which keeps things minimal and straight to the point. bright disco strings lie at the heart of this track, slowly weaving their way in and out of the background while the drums and rugged b-line keep your feet moving and head bopping. lastly, ‘wara coco’ offers more hypnotic vibes drawing you with its dainty melody, dancing around the top end, while a mean bassline throbs away, deep down in the low end. it’s an strong combination and finishes off the ep in style.

ilario alicante is back on the track and he simply beats the shit out us! the italian techno maestro presents a stronger than strong release that defines the alicante-sytle in pure perfection. the extreme detroit flavoured alicante double pack tracker comes with remixes by adventice and mark broom. alicantes originals “virgo storm” and “hypno” are based on a massive and masculine beat programming and wave the “purpose maker” and “axis” flag like no other of his releases so far. this is heavy material - this feeds rob hood and jeff mills fans and we can see and hear alicantes admiration for the underground resistance back catalogue here! adventice (dj deep & romain poncet) remix for “virgo storm” follows this direction however it leaves out the manic synth elements and incorporates even more peaktime-floor-action-sounds that have only one message: total dancefloor madness! mark brooms remix for “hypno” introduces a very cool but deep-dark and filtered organ-bassline which gives his remix an even more hypnotic touch in contrast to the cheeky and nasty original by ilario alicante. this 4-track-package proofs that good and solid techno is still fresh and alicante leaves a major footprint with this release! play this loud and drive your speakers to the edge, azzurro alicante is back on cocoon recordings!

pattern 3 comes from one of the uk’s hottest producers. tommy vicari jnr is hot right now and you only have to listen to this ep to hear why. 4 strong house grooves which we are sure will be heard on dance floors all across the world.

undo (gabriel berlanga) introduces his third album disconnect, with ten songs written, recorded and produced during 2015 and 2016. on disconnect undo blends different influences using both new and old analogue gear combined with digital plug-ins and fx to create his own recognizable sound after more than 10 years on the road. opening track “disconnect” finds undo playing with psychedelic synths and singing shyly. we also hear vocals but in a very diferent mood onthe funny, funky and sexy “computer friends” and on “autómatas”, an electro cut that demands a reaction against the established injustice. there are vocals as well on the last track of the album, this time with an epic vocoder because at the end “we’ve got to fight”. djs will likely gravitate toward the unstoppable trance synth of “the arptist”, the chug-techno tension on “acid prophet”, the shuffled beats and endless harmony of “setembre” and the dreamy melodies of “interferencias” and “sunmachine”.

in this age of pre-set play lists and total sharing of music, you more or less get served what you expect to hear. your musical preferences are predictable and you - with little or no effort - get access to music that suits your self-image perfectly and places you in a safe zone.
but what if these babysitting services went on vacation and you’re suddenly left alone in the post-industrial outback? where do you start looking? at first listen you might feel that the songs on loving hell by vox low, released on hoga nord rekords, might not suit your needs in such a cold, harsh existence. but that’s where you’re wrong. vox low’s sound might first appear frightening and cold to you but the tracks on this ep most of all carries with them depth, energy and persistence: the perfect soundtrack to reboot your system to and to get you going straight forward without looking back. this is music for the aftermath of a cathartic experience, music that generates a propulsion that makes you wanna walk on that road forever, music to help you rediscover what punk, rock and electronica really should be about - gut feeling.

last year saw casablanca-based cosmo records launch its most ambitious project todate, celebrating five years of cross-cultural collaboration. the three vinyl releasesfeatured producers such as san proper, radiq, pier bucci and dandy jack working with moroccan musicians to create a true fusion between modern electronics and ancient traditions. the purpose of cosmo has always been to find a natural meeting place between thesedistinct musical forms, bringing out the best strengths of each practice through real time spent together in the studio, where each artist can truly understand the other in a shared quest for sonic harmony. as such, this latest release marks a step forward in exploring this idea through a new series entitled cosmo jam. as the title suggests, the focus here is on live improvisation. in late 2014 parisian producers masomenos and vadim svoboda travelled to morocco and set up their equipment at the coda casablanca music center. they were joined by m’hamed el menjra playing bass, abdessamad boussahfa on violin and sanhaji on darbuka, and the ensuing jam sessions between these musicians now make their way on to vinyl. no editing or post-production took place – the music you hear on the record was created entirely in the moment. each track highlights the magic of a different instrument – on “be” menjra’s double bass comes twisting through effects processing and subtle distortion, meeting with a low-slung broken beat groove from the visiting french producers. sanhaji’s thrilling percussive flair on the darbuka flirts perfectly with the crisp programming of drums and bass on the uptempo “kaled” and the more laid-back “petit”. boussahfa’s violin makes for some of the most arresting moments on the release, meeting with intricate minimalist rhythms on “mon” and shining in the heart-rending ambience of “frere”. presented across two 12”s, this collection of six tracks tells a most honest account of how gifted artists from entirely different disciplines can find a common ground and create something truly unique. without any studio trickery to hide behind, this is the concept of cosmo records laid bare, and the results prove it is a concept worth exploring further.

nyc loft trax exploded onto the scene a year ago with a white label containing unreleased dat tape archives from the 1990 s. people lost their minds and it proceeded to sellout of shops in what seemed like minutes! with anything that is from an unknown lost world you have your doubters, but those that know could hear and feel the validity of these authenthic tapes. you seriously could not capture the vibe that obviously was witnessed on that record. the label continued to dig into various sources to release all types of unreleased and amazingly good records. so with the integrity we see this label exercise get excited as this is another selection of lost yet found 1990 s dat tape trax! this is the real deal, let s not kid ourselves now. lots of hot heat on this one containing deep, dubs and disco! side note: the city in particular has a nu groove records story attached to it. basically it is the instrumental of an unreleased remix. that s all we have been told on that one. interesting! grab this now! expect this to go fast!

mysterious producer kian t is a crazy guy living in a lonely house on a top of a hill somewhere in italy. surrounded by a collection of rare old synths and vintage samplers, a little dog and the best red wine of italy. kian is making beats all day long. that’s his life. he started his career on toy tonics last year and now is back with an own ep - full of that fucked up, jazz influenced cut & paste house sound that is taking over the house world since last year. similar to his friends rhode & brown, fouk, nachtbraker or the guys around oye records in berlin he loves to create this special way of sampling old jazz records and using rare vintage synthesizers instead of digital computer sounds. just listen to a normal deep house records of the last years and compare it with the sound of the kian. using these old synths makes a big difference. you can hear it on every of his tunes: there is no cheap sound here everything is fat and has a very warm, personal, always easy to recognize sound-aesthetic: courtesy of the four synthesizers he uses: the korg polysix, the sequential prophet600, a roland juno 60, and the legendary oberheim matrix 6. and courtesy of the way he mixes his tracks: not in the laptop - but the old way: on a fat old mixing desk. thats why he has that massive sound.

don t confuse radio silence with inactivity. the music might not have been flowing, but the plans were at schrodinger s box hq. and finally, after a shedload of work, we re back to the music. anton maiovvi is well known in the right circles. this bristol born soundtrack virtuoso, italo disco savant and all round electronic guru has travelled labels far and wide with his smorgasbord sound. and that variety is plain to hear on will to powder. from the epic opener of -clocks-, maiovvi leads you through his labyrinthine hall of shapes and sounds. expect warming melodies, cold beats, shimmering synthwork, brazen experimentation, a decent dollop of slasher scores and a pinch new wave romance in this. undoubtedly his most diverse album to date.

grab-bag 12” ep of electro, idm, breaks and house from montreal via ottawa producer riohv (aka braden thompson), which follows up the similarly map-jumping 1080-released “moondance” cassette from back in 2014. finding more confidence and proficiency in his own abilities as a producer, thompson was able to have a lot more fun and subsequently revise and update his sound to reflect his own tastes in records. the ep was made in one burst in montreal over the winter and spring. on “green room, it comes down to creating what he wants to hear—atmosphere through dreamy or moody pads, layered percussive elements, to pay tribute to the euphoria of early rave music.

a project that came to life fuelled by collectors obsession and a lifelong willingness to dive head- first into unknown musical wormholes, miles whittaker and sean canty have never been defined by a singular musical trajectory. their opening salvo of releases dabbled with the aesthetic of the occult and provided an alternate, parallax view of the italian library records with which they were both obsessed at the time, but as their long running mixtape series and brilliantly curated dds label attest, their interests extend far outside the crevices of early electronic music and into dance music, dancehall, roots, jungle, techno, industrial, noise and beyond. while 2013s testpressing series provided an outlet for mostly club-based productions shot from the hip, wonderland has been constructed with a narrative in mind.from the clipped hardstyle of the opening curzon, through the jaunty dancehall mutations of animal style and fulledge, exotica/house refractions on hardnoise, the frankly ridiculous, bassbin destroying jungle ructions on sourcer, or the extended tease of overstaying, its probably the most enjoyable and loose-limbed hour of music in their catalogue, or that youll likely hear in these weird, angst-ridden times.

having worked with the likes of don cherry and laurie anderson, there s little doubting the credentials of ramuntcho matta. emotional rescue have tapped him up for some truly outernational jams that sport african percussion, skronky jazz tones and an engaging minimalism that s hard to resist. the fretless bass and exotic animal cries of -ecoute- are especially appealing, while the squelchy sound design in -o clapo- may well do funny things to all who hear it. it s a startlingly original record that serves as a perfect introduction to a lesser known figure in leftfield music with a great heritage behind him.
