alex falk first showed up on our radar back in 2013 when his terse ep dropped on tennessee-based label proper trax. that record – specifically -ptr-, which we pitched way down and turned way up – was a regular fixture on our platters, so we were stoked when the man in knoxville got in touch with these groove-heavy, stripped-back floor fillers that now make up the anjuna ep.

ecuador s rising son, nicola cruz, returns to multi culti with cantos de vision, a truly visionary ep backed by remixes from jaja, argentinian uji, and multi culti s own thomas von party. one of the core artists in multi culti s diverse catalog of globally-inspired dance music, nicola cruz is deservedly becoming the poster-boy for a new wave of producers that fuse indigenous sounds with internationally professional production, creating something entirely new, sonically. it s a genre that multi culti ambassadors dreems & thomas von party refer to as folklorica, a psychedelic replanting of folkloric roots, and nowhere is it more skilfully executed than on nicola s tracks. following up on his debut lp for latin america s indie powerhouse, zzk records, the return to multi culti sees cruz sharpen his focus toward igniting the downtempo dance-floors that have slowly been gaining ground in clubs and festivals recently. this new club sound is at the fore on lead track tzantza, already an integral part of nicola s live shows and dj sets at festivals like sonar and mutek.

safer at night returns late january 2017 with the vinyl only release of the deep end , featuring two original curses cuts and remixes from ian blevins and holy ghost! safer at night founder curses launched the label back in 2014 and it has since gone to play host to material from eli esobar, walker & royce, jagerverb and of course the label founder himself. here we see curses re-release his composition the deep end marking the ten-year anniversary of its former releases on institutes in 2007, while enlisting ian blevins and holy ghost! on remix duties and stirring in a new original of his own as well. the original mix of the deep end takes the lead and offers a chance to revisit the decade old curses cut fuelled by wandering bass and lead guitar licks, dropped-tempo crunchy rhythms and murky piano chords all instilled with a gritty new york electro feel. holy ghost! then rework the original with the funk-laden feel via bright chord sequences, elongated delay swells and an amalgamation of 80 s synth leads, hooky bass lines and sporadic vocal lines. on the flip ian blevins offers up his interpretation of in shadows employing stuttering vocal hits, choppy arpeggios and droning bass leads to create an emotive and hypnotic number before curses original mix of in shadows closes on a cinematic vibe with an 80 s sci-fi soundtrack feel to perfectly conclude this vinyl only 10 year celebration.

power station continue to present their penchant for dark dance club sounds as the third edition of the kris baha-led imprint looks to another melbourne local by way of lochlan denholm aka disrute. after surfacing on the labels sampler debut just last year, reflexivity sees lochlan a chance to explore his style of twisted, pulsing homage to new wave and motorik throb. anvil landing wastes no time laying down intentions. sparse friendly drums are met with a modulating bass line and lazy arpeggio, an incessant sonar pulses and drum rolls intensify. snorkel continues the mid-tempo intensity, distressed kick counterpoint with aggressive stabs that rise and swirl before reaching a powerful climax, a track reminiscent of the 2000 s turbo-charged italo disco edits. on the flip we see japanese supergroup mascaras, made up of chida and 5ive (cos/mes) tackle unreleased kabutops. vocal fans of disrute s kabu track from the label sampler, here mascaras provide a fast paced acid-heavy reinterpretation, intense yet restrained with erratic drum trickery taking disrute to techno territory. finally, disrute reflects with title track reflexivity. digital arpeggios and a brooding one note bass work around curt cress style harmonic drums, a low slung piece for the early evening. hand drawn picture sleeve and label, a complete package that signals exciting times for power station ahead.

sdx is the producer alias of our resident dj beni, who delivered finest detroit techno for our catalogue number 008. catalogue number 009 comes with special remixes by legend rolando, known from labels like ostgut ton, underground resistance or deslin & max durante, known from sonig groove & diffuse reality. the original track the day she asks for forgiveness is a slowly building percussive 808 banger, built around a short vocal sample. rolando comes with a special minimalistic dj tool track. we are sure this remix will find place in lots of dj sets. max durante comes with a straight forward techno remix in his best own style. the third and last track of the record is a special bonus breakbeat track made by sdx himself. clitchy sounds and a special mood will bring you directly into another dimension. be prepared

if you‘re familiar with cvbox‘ music you know that he isn’t the guy for your average techno track. formalistic song structures aren’t his thing. when you’ll start to listen to a new cvbox track you’ll don’t know how it will end. his music derives from his deep love for analogue gear and a pretty unique way to deal with it.

adam port and jimpster have had a special kind of ‘virtual’ relationship the last few years with a mutual respect for each others productions and output of their respective labels. keinemusik, which adam runs alongside rampa, &me and reznik, has grown into one of the most consistent and hottest out there right now with every release creating a big splash and bringing magic to so many dancefloors around the world. adam recently remixed jimpster’s eel pie island to devastating effect bringing his own deep, late night atmospherics to the original and creating one of 2016’s underground hits in the process. so now we’re very pleased to welcome adam port (alongside legendary uk artists stereo mc’s) for a full release on freerange in the form of changes. opening the release we have adam’s own remix which sets the tone with a subtle and gently building groove providing the perfect backdrop for the stereo mc’s esoteric vocal. this lesson in restraint shows why adam’s productions work so well on big systems, letting all the focus shine firmly on the vocal creating an intense atmosphere with not a single huge breakdown in sight! next up we have the original of changes which takes a more electro approach with a simple bassline and crisp hats and once again allowing the vocal space to take centre stage for a deep and memorable track with a message. finally we have a remix from our own jimpster opts to push in a completely different direction. shuffling up the groove and laying down a repeating rhodes riff we’re treated to an altogether more soulful and less stark version making the perfect compliment to the the package. this one makes us think of his remix of osunlade’s momma’s groove which is no bad thing we feel! enjoy!

good things come to those who wait ... especially to those who wait for the next original dennis ferrer release on his imprint, objektivity. maniac 3000 is the second anthemic single from ferrer s much anticipated upcoming album on defected, paranoia aftermath , to drop early 2017. tapping into his techno-roots for this one, ferrer has managed to create an unlikely union between the groovy techno drums and the suspense of arpeggiated synth line. in ferrer s own words the track was an attempt to go backwards, to move forward .

a1 --aqua lifeforms- is perhaps the least intense cut on the record, a sort of a slow grower which builds up momentum by layering sounds and pads. a2 -body mover- is exactly what the title tells you. crunchy peak time tune for the dance floor, with shuffling broken beats wrapping around deep chords that hint what s happening on the flip side. b1 -doorway to her- is a nod to the classic deep techno chord-ish approach. well, sort of. the song lets you think that until the first curveball just before the half of the track. after that, it s just deeper than deep. b2 -pulsing hearts- is another well-crafted dance floor cut. the track moves from deep meditative vibe to subtle acid tripping, just to be finished with a proper bass workout. overall, we couldn t think of a better way to mark the 10th barba release.
