this album has been many years in the making. around 2005 we were gigging, playing hip hop breaks and supporting acts like krs-one and raekwon. we wrote a lot of our own material, but we never properly recorded it in a studio, we did however make lots of -one mic- recordings onto a mini-disk player. tom kept hold of all of these recordings and in 2011 send copies of everything to the rest of the band. a short list of 30 were chosen to record properly. a basic studio was booked, and recording began, initially it was pretty basic, just drums, bass & keys with guitars overdubbed the following day. with these foundation rhythm tracks tom went away and edited them, creating structure, extra layers and demo mixes. these demo mixes were used to send to mcs. it was decided to go with american mcs as the type of thing we listened to when we wrote a lot of our material was classic 90s hip hop. el da sensei & sadat x were the first to respond to our request, and soon features were flying through ever other week. we actually had enough material for 2 albums, but picked what we wanted to represent our first release and continued to develop the material, including adding session musicians for harps, brass, strings and cuts. we chose 4 tracks to create videos for and got the ball rolling with various video makers. the final year was spent mixing, sequencing and deciding on artwork. the title cinder hill is reference to where the band spent many afternoons practicing at john & joe’s parent’s house, their mum maggie passed away in 2016 and the album is dedicated to her for her endless support and love for the music.

the visionary talents of multi-instrumentalist zach witness have sprouted full life in this world, lending his sonic touch to the bulk of erykah badus latest album, but you caint use my phone (motown records). this project was brought to life with erykah badu at the badudio and world witness studios in zach witness hometown, dallas, texas. this project put him on a unique trajectory, harnessing his intricately designed fusion productions into the periphery of an entirely new audience around the world. his forthcoming debut ep, electric revival: rise of an outkast nation, is the first project to find the light of day after this expansion phase, initially created as a birthday gift to zach witness friend and collaborator, andre 3000. the catalyst behind the creation of electric revival has a very specific initiation point. during the recordings for but you caint use my phone, erykah badu called on andré 3000 for collaborative assistance. this would result in the albums last track, hello, created at the home studio zach witness has lived in his whole life. this moment in time compelled zach witness to create an offering for andré 3000, and this was in the form of an entire body of music. electric revival takes on the stories of the lives entangled around societys most crippling and hopeless of situations. the social and political intentions of the ep paints a very defined purpose in this context. experience the transformative sounds of zach witness and his debut manifesto.

following a string of remixes throughout 2016, and one of her busiest summers on the road, cassy is rounding off the year on a high. enter ‘kwench records’, a collaborative imprint she has created to represent honest and upfront house music. the remit is simple, on each release two or more artists will collaborate on ep original material, with a different artist joining the package on remix duty. they must not be afraid to experiment, nor do what comes naturally to them. and above all, trust in themselves and their instincts. this is something cassy has proudly learned to master over her dj career, and she now wishes to put out records in a creative space that encourages this approach. for the first release, cassy has called in one of her favourite house music producers, canada based demuir, to collaborate with her. demuir’s ‘derrick does disco’ ep which came out on great lakes audio in 2016 was a favorite in cassy’s sets throughout that year, even making it onto her mixmag presents cd ‘let’s talk about donna’, which accompanied her cover in june. there are three original cuts on the package, and as a special treat for the first release, cassy is holding back the incredible remix package until later this year.

when it comes to living legends in the texas and latin music pantheon, few have been at it longer and are more revered by their fans and peers than soul vocalist and mexican-american songwriter and bandleader sunny ozuna. he became a star right out of high school in the late ‘50s and hasn’t looked back in the six decades since.
among countless other honors and notable achievements, sunny was the first latino artist to appear on dick clark’s “american bandstand” (in 1963). songs like “put me in jail,” “talk to me,” “should i take you home,” “my dream” and “smile now, cry later” still bring crowds to their feet throughout the southwest and california and around the world at “oldies” and “lowrider soul” events. and after releasing dozens of albums since the mid-1960s (in spanish and english), sunny still keeps a busy schedule and loves performing as much as he did as a teenager. his classic 45s regularly change hands for hundreds of dollars among collectors around the world, affirming his timeless appeal.

circus company and the mole have long been making eyes at each other across the same crowded dancefloor. colin de la plante?s primary project is synonymous with the off-kilter corner of house music we like to spend our time dancing in, and the labels he releases on are close cousins of the circus troupe. from wagon repair to philpot, musique risquee to perlon, it?s a wonder that we haven?t worked together previously, but finally that?s been put right with little sunshine. stripped back, understated disco grooves have always been the bread and butter of the mole?s sound, while infectious, cyclical melodic patterns are equally important in making his unique version of house music. on the title track, those elements are presented with full force, but in between the driving rhythms linger the most gorgeous keys, bringing a mellow introspection to the track as a neat counterpoint to the energy of the drums and arpeggios

assemble music brings together four more producers at the forefront of today’s fine minimal/house/electro scene. eklo boss seuil kicks things off with jam, a slowly-unfolding confection of metallic percussion and rolling bass set against a meditative, minor backdrop. his fellow half baked resident robin ordell brings a tipsy-sounding vibe to mobsiw, each element swaying its way around the others in an off-key dance. les points’ barbir adds detroit hats to a no-shits-given breakbeat and suspends it in time, before finally a 4/4 kick comes to put feet back on the ground. finally, traffic founders martyné and jacob draw on more contemporary breaks and electro influences on electronetto, with that laissez-faire swing with which their label has become synonymous.

cover with a slightly kink in the corner - the/das ist ein aus der formation bodi bill hervorgegangenes musikprojekt von fabian fenk (gesang) und philipp koller (elektronik, mix), das 2012 in berlin gegr³ndet wurde. der bandname soll eine neutrale bedeutung haben und in keine bestimmte richtung verweisen. ihren sound nennen die beiden techno tenderness, was in etwa chilliger afterhour-musik bzw. new romantic house entspricht. diesen fanden die geneigten h÷rer auf bislang ³ber einer handvoll ver÷ffentlichungen, darunter der lp -freezer- von 2014. dessen innig ersehnter nachfolger erscheint auf dem italienischen, von dj tennis gef³hrten label life and death. wõhrend bei fr³heren releases eher der homelistening-aspekt betont wurde, gibt das produzenten-duo auf -exit strategies- verstõrkt clubfreundliche seiten von sich preis. daf³r vermengen die zwei ziemlich geschickt, geschmackssicher und facettenreich urspr³nglichen techno berliner prõgung und organische soundschleifen miteinander und w³rzen das ganze mit verspielten kinematografischen details. ein aufwõndiges verfahren, dessen umsetzung von losen skizzen ³ber die ersten arrangements und immer wieder neuen ?berarbeitungen bis zum finalen mix im studio rund drei jahre dauerte.
