by the time the jungle brothers rapped about it in 1988, house music had been bumping in nyc clubs for years. even though the genre would go on to become a global phenomenon, house music had humble beginnings in predominantly gay and black clubs in chicago. musically, house music was inspired by the eclectic dance records played by djs frankie knuckles and ron hardy at clubs like “the warehouse” and “muzik box”. with a growing club scene, labels like trax records and dj international played a major role in the development of the genre. founded in 1984, trax was an important outlet for house music in its early days, releasing many classics including -no way back- by adonis, larry heard s -can you feel it,- and the first so-called house anthem in 1986, -move your body- by marshall jefferson. this latter tune gave a massive boost to house music, extending recognition of the genre outside of chicago.

(a & b). back in august 2017, jerome derradji received a call by one of chicagos most renowned record dealer. it went like this: hey jerome, ive got all these reel to reel tapes of chicago house stuff. you want to take a look?” less than 24 hours later, more than 160 reels were purchased and safely hauled back to the still music office and jerome got to work. in fact, these reels - that were lost for more than 20 years - contain some incredible stuff that we’ll be releasing in the years to come but right now it’s time to jack! around 50 of these tapes are dj mixes that were broadcasted on wgci and wbmx in the mid to late eighties mostly with the hot mix 5. so jerome decided to start a series of cassettes titled jack to share the absolute greatness of these mixes (and to raise enough funds to finance the transfer and licensing of the more crazy stuff that’s in the stack of reels) here is our first series with mixes from frankie knuckles, steve “silk” hurley, chicago mystery - devastating daryl and a few unknown mixes that were too essential to skip. these mixes were played on the radio only once and were lost until today. this series is an absolute window back to the heydays of chicago house music. all the mixes were professionally transferred and remastered to the best of our abilities.

first track poise i is a deep and dubbed out techno track with deft synths slowly shapeshifting and bringing sombreness to the quickened groove. it’s late night music to zone you out with sparse but rich detailing to keep your mind occupied and it gets ever-busier over the course of thirteen enthralling minutes. then poise ii is a 16 minute masterpiece that is watery and dubby. it has undulating synth currents and increasingly textured snares. building to a peak then pulling back, with occasional freaky vocal sounds and sci-fi motifs, it is a truly cinematic piece that closes out an ambitious ep.

meander turns 10! beautiful representation of the past 10 years with previously unreleased music. the label celebrates their first decade with their second compilation, 5 years after the initial family jubilee. the result is a collection of 3 x 180g vinyl records. all discs are available individually, with limited special artwork. as a package it forms a distinctive reflection of meanders momentum.

amsterdam producers and good friends kaap and scott franka have come together to start a new label and live act: working titles. kaap is best known as the label boss of tape cassette label yield, scott just debuted with his first 12” on quartet series. together they perform primarily hardware based live sessions. for their label they improvise, jam and record to press these takes only on vinyl. the idea is to capture the real, raw and authentic improvised moments as soon as possible after they happen, hence the name working titles. this first vinyl release features the wt001 and wt002 outtakes on one disc. these sessions were recorded by the pair in an abandoned cabin in the woods in the south of holland, surrounded by nature.

for their 12th release, fasaan recordings has dug deep into the techno underground of malm and found the drum machine anthems of frankie twilight. not your usual techno producer, the woman behind this alan vega-esque alias does not subscribe to any genre definitions. having played in a berlin-based punk band as well as acting as resident dj at a members only 78 rpm jazz club, to say her tastes are diverse is quite an understatement. the diy spirit is however a red thread throughout the 4 tracks of her synergy ep for fasaan

oxias classic domino gets reworked for its ten year anniversary - in 2 vinyl parts. a decade after initially seeing the light, oxias now classic domino gets reworked to celebrate its anniversary. the new release features a new cut by oxia himself as well as several remixes by none other than frankey & sandrino, robag wruhme and matador. the ep will be released through agoria’s newly found record label sapiens on february 24th. ten years ago the track made waves in the international dance music circuit, striking up chords with techno, trance and house djs alike to quickly become an all-time classic. having never expected the track to reach the status that it his, its a very dear project to oxia and he needed quite some persuading to give in and let agoria and his team create something that was worthy of the original. the set of tracks are the first officially commissioned remixes by oxia ever. finding remixers took some time, the amazing frankey & sandrino whos track acamar is my absolute favourite of 2015, matador that just launched his rukus label as well is the multi-talented ex label mate at kompakt robag wruhme. they are all incredibly gifted and fortunately patient enough to wait for this ep
