very promising new label from new jersey starting with a sparkling, super deep 4 tracker from dj q & david s. from the dark, stripped down >warrior dance< to the organ chord driving, jumping >night ride< this covers various facets of oldschool inspired deephouse. for fans of omar s, jus ed etc
electric arguments is the first fireman album in 10 years, and this song based album couldnt be more different than its predecessors. for those who dont know by now, the fireman is a collaborative project between music icon paul mccartney and revered producer youth. the pair first worked together in the 90s when they made two ambient dance albums. originally the firemans identity was anonymous and was eventually revealed by the press as being paul and youth. in september it was announced that the fireman would this year release their first brand new material in a decade and this time there was a big difference - the duo had found their voice. speculation began, one studio insider was reported as saying the new songs sounds like arcade fire meets led zeppelin. certainly so far, anyone who has already heard the album has commented on just how accessible electric arguments is, compared to the first two fireman albums. this album is an eclectic and diverse collection of songs that show paul is still interested in pure musical possibilities. each track was written and recorded in the space of one day. the fireman went into the studio with no plan or clear direction of how they wanted the album to sound. the project took a life of its own and the results will surprise anyone expecting to hear the previous sound of the band.
freska (soma / stil vor talent) suprises with his new release on karatemusik. oriental sounds mixed with his russian influences and minimal electro house. check out this very unique release

the second single from the scratch massive album >time< contains two remixes. the first comes from siskid, hes a member of black strobe and known from his releases on initial cuts. the second comes from inaqui marin, hes known from his el diario ep on galaktika records this year
lawrence bringt auf der a- seite groovig-warme deephouse- sounds, auf der b- seite geht es mit icicleddancemysteriöser, aber mindestens genauso deep zu. plus miles version ohne beat.
another serious result from our warehouse rummaging! si begg is a man of many musical personalities, his list of aliases is impressive to say the least (bigfoot, buckfunk3000, lenny logan, s.i. futures, zygmunt janowski...). but one of his oldest, and certainly one of his strangest, is cabbage boy. in fact i confess i am old enough to remember his releases in the early 90s on cassette tape under the umbrella of the >cabbage head collective< (which also included such techno notables as cristian vogel & tim wright) - and pretty mental they were too. the lost tapes vol. 1 doesnt disappoint on that front, containing such gems as a remix of 80s pop mysteries frank chickens>we are ninja<, and an electronic cover version of >king kong< by frank zappa (ask your parents...). totally out there, but totally cool at the same time...highly recommended to anyone looking for something with some real personality amidst the hard-drives full of faceless (and usually nameless) digital fluff
slap - one of the most obscure and forward thinking acts from the early 80s meets the spearhead of today’s electronic music, ricardo villalobos. the originals are disturbingly brilliant electronic excursions, while villalobos’ jazz-fueled rework is one of the deepest mixes he has ever done. vivid drums are built around a driving bassline, aiming the track right at the floor. not to mention the rough claps! imagine miles davis’ “bitches brew” joined by throbbing gristle, playing “minimal techno” live. earlier this year macro unearthed namlook’s long lost “subharmonic atoms” featuring outstanding pépé bradock remixes. this continuation of the “prototypes” series is none less of a dream team. slap’s experimentalism just seems to be the right inspiration for ricardo villalobos, who takes it to a level of weirdness only he can achieve while retaining such danceability. essential!
new and exciting label from our friends north of the border, aimed squarely at the dancefloor autodiscotheque kick off their demonstration only series of cut up dancefloor grooves with two killer edits from richard sen (padded cell/bronx dogs) and legendary grafitti artist cazbee. first up is a fresh rework of the bass driven disco glitch of kat mandus i wanna dance reconstructed here as cat dance. on the flip, the chunky disco funk of dennis deans i feel it is transformed into the irresistible proto house groove of lifetie. cut and pasted for the elegantly wasted, this is sophisticated and decidedly filthy 21st century club music !
entertainment is a duo. im a cliché is proud to release their very first e.p on september 29th. juan de guillebon is the bass player. he studied a lot jaco pastorius, but decided not to spend the rest of his life playing in jazz rock combos. you can easily guess his attraction to no wave bands (suicide or james chance), krautrock (his faves are cluster), or ebm and early electro (daf). alongside, hes part of the ectoplasmic band, performing as backing band for tigersushis boss joakim. antoine montgaudon plays the guitar, and we bet he would have fit perfectly in any brian enos late 70s recording. he builds endless psychedelic atmospheres with feedbacks, loops and fxs. all this only with his guitar. hes also part of my sister klaus, a project released on tigersushi (again).

arctic monkeys were already massive way before they inked a deal with domino in june 2005. people obsessing over the songs? sold out gigs full of stage diving nutcases. hardcore fans pressed up against venue windows, just hoping to catch a glimpse such checkpoints have all been ticked. the boys may share a love of the smiths, the clash and the jam, but in no way were the monkeys ready to simply regurgitate the well trodden brit rock path.
