opening track the promise is a 909-riddled voyage, moving through raw grooves and melancholic, filtered synth work. cosmic chords and a strong bassline drives the offering steadily into moody club music territory while, on the ep flip, dubbed out zora on holds a probing melody that whips against rolling pads and restrained vocals. nostalgic and effervescent, undertone closes the release beautifully, with clean keys and organic, twinkling percussion making for perfect for all day and night listening.

nagamatzu were the british duo of andrew lagowski (seti, legion, terror against terror) on synths, guitar, and programming and stephen jarvis (pure motorised instinct, terraform) on synths and bass. formed in 1982 after messing around with old tape machines and drum boxes, making numerous contributions to international compilations and erratically releasing their own cassettes. their name comes from a character in jg ballard‘s “atrocity exhibition” and their music reflects his influence. nagamatzu self-released their debut cassette “shatter days” in 1983 after messing around with old tape machines, drum boxes and effects.

(rather than a mere dub, this is almost an entirely different jump-up disco track) and a bonus firecracker skit.

fifty first recordings was created in 1994 out of a small but very productive studio in london called state 51 using the down time and the very talented engineers who had been brought together for state 51 s existing clients. state 51 was the go to studio for the likes of x-press 2, sharp, amalgamation of soundz. the engineers we worked with included mark woolford, james brown, james reynolds & mark yardley. fifty first recordings soon found a name for itself and was very quickly at the forefront of the new generation of uk garage music. we produced and released music in the 90s, for over 7 years, with the likes of tuff jam etc. and later went to develop other imprints such as konnect / test press / unda vybe / spread love / tick etc., some in partnership with producers and managed artists.

restored and re-mastered from the original tapes comes gigi masins much sought after first album wind. never commercially released the lp was in fact only given away at a number of small concerts, with many of the remaining copies destroyed during floods in the venice based musicians house. quickly becoming seen as something of a landmark ambient album in recent years, ‘wind is now lovingly presented again in its entirety. true to its original private issue it is once again being made available through gigi masins very own the bear on the moon records.
