it is time to discuss fundamentals. for his second appearance on laut & luise constantijn lange shows his interpretation of human mannerisms that contrast so much while being closely entangled. able to deliver both pain and satisfaction alike, its apparent simplicty may deliver the purest bliss while the complexity of its impact can at times feel devestating: power & love. for the first part of this pair onosizo stands by to passionately proclaim and address the true nature and dangers of power. in contrast the second part of this ep is a musical dedication to all the light hearted and emphatic moments, a chance to brighten up and an invitation to feel untroubled, if only for a few minutes. just like a mapleseed rhino would do.

fouk might have been curating outplay since 2013, but their butterfunk ep is in fact the duos first proper ep on their own imprint. its not that theyve been resting on their laurels: they ve drip-fed a handful of eps on the likes of heist and house of disco over the past few years, and released solo efforts on kolour ltd and razor n tape that stormed the charts. it s been fascinating to see the dutch pair slowly break the mould, moving from heavy sampling in favour to an emphasis on original instrumentation and production. the butterfunk ep is fine showcase of their prowess in the studio, loaded to the hilt with contemporary dancefloor funk. things kick off with the rolling drums, off-beat percussion and seriously infectious hammond lines of organ freeman. title track butterfunk is aimed squarely at the hips with its smooth keys and perfectly placed vocal, while some acid lines give the track a little edge. flip over for the bumping wong way, a chunky workout with a rubber bassline. the finale of the ep is winter, a fantastic slice of 80s inspired downtempo mushroom jazz.

remastered edition, contains a printed inner sleeve and 4-page 12inch booklet with liner notes and photos. tip! after a classic artistic journey and an experimental stint with aktuala and other brilliant fellow musicians (like franco battiato, above all), lino capra vaccina, near the end of the 70s, recorded antico adagio. it was an amazing album, anticipating countless future experiments in the field of new age and world music but also in avantgarde and electronic music. apart from a few violin parts and the extraordinary vocal lines (sung by vaccina himself and juri camisasca), antico adagio is an album fully built on percussions. but, at the same time, it s the farthest thing from the typical idea of percussions. you won t find a single trace of african or primitive beats: instead, this is a collection of rather long, subtle and thoughtful compositions, crafted with vibraphones, marimbas and gong. together they create a work which will remain unique both in capra vaccina s discography as well as in a more general sense.

following a run of local transmissions from a sagittariun, crump, rob smith and atki2, idle hands turns its attention to berlin and the straight-up, no-nonsense techno thrust of johanna knutsson and hans berg. both respected artists and djs in their own right, the pair have been turning out 12inches together for the free spirit society, klasse and crime city disco over the past few years, but most importantly they ve been steering the excellent ufo station recordings as a vessel for their punchy, primal techno tracks. the sound on this ep taps into the pure form of stern, dark dancefloor tackle favoured at idle hands – no extraneous filler, plenty of space in the mix, but equally built with warmth and personality rather than monochrome functionality. if you need further proof, just look to the fact the ep is named after a swedish soap opera from the 90s. the bleeps and bass tones that pulse through -taggen- are so finely crafted they need not skip and dance around the arrangement. the melodic interplay on -klimax- is subtle but ultimately uplifting and optimistic where so much techno concerns itself with oppressive gloom. -bimbo- finds the pair embracing a more psychedelic approach, but even here the modulating effects processes are kept within certain boundaries so as to not dilute the impact on the floor. after all, this is music to dance to, to be felt over a large system (where possible). moving from leftfield bass excursions to minimalist 2-step, uk techno and now onto this much more continental sound, themälarviken ep continues to widen the range of idle hands musical tastes without losing sight of the complete picture.

after putting out kito jempere s stunning sea monster album earlier in the year, hell yeah now serve up a bunch of remixes from it that have been secret weapons for the last few months. behind them are black spuma, lipelis and bell towers and they all serve up real heaters. first up with possibly their best ever remix are black spuma—a collaboration between phillip lauer (tuff city kids, arto mwambe) and fabrizio mammarella (telespazio)—who flip ampa into a bootylicious house cut with fat bass stabs and sci-fi synths. it s retro in flavour and riddled with melodies that are brightly coloured and emotive, and when the vocal is layered in it helps carry you away on a wave of bliss. for djs who prefer to keep things raw, a dub version without the vocals is also included and bangs that bit harder.

an audio engineer by trade, avatism records electronic music and operates parachute records from his milan-based studio. with original compositions and remixes on nonplus, vakant, decca, r&s and his own imprint, the young italian is well-respected for his own brand of dilapidated, muscular dance music. performing solely as a live act, his improvised transmissions echo through the walls of clubs like fabric, berghain, concrete, panorama bar and festivals of the calibre of sonar, audioriver and exit, either alone or under the guise of cw/a.

along with his rival, cornell campbell, johnny clarke was one of the most esteemed singers of the roots reggae era. having grown up next door to a popular sound system on waltham park road in western kingston, clarke s early fascination with music led him to hang out at studio one with jacob miller while still at school. he then made the rounds of talent shows with barry brown, sugar minott and the diamonds, which led to a debut recording in 1973, for the pianist glen stair, which remains unreleased. an early effort for clancy eccles, ‘god made the sea and sun,’ was not promoted properly, though ‘everyday wondering,’ for rupie edwards, impacted in britain, ‘golden snake’ for stamma houghton and a cover of smokey robinson’s ‘you really got a hold on me’ for glen brown were also false starts. the breakthrough finally came in 1975 when clarke linked with bunny lee, who had him voice the rastafari landmark ‘none shall escape the judgement’ (written by earl zero, who failed to muster a credible take), which kick-started the ‘flying cymbal’ craze. clarke’s resultant debut album, enter into his gates with praise, mixed hard-hitting rastafari devotional material with sympathetic cover versions of classics by the likes of the paragons, slim smith and delroy wilson, along with a few reggae renditions of some vintage american r&b.

distant images is d.k.s fourth release on antinote and we can say quite safely that dang khoa chau fueled a few identifiable obsessions over the years for those familiar with his work, it probably wont feel like uncharted territory when they’ll hear a somehow well-known guitar in the background of the title-track.

let your brain slowly melt to the delightful sounds of dima disk. having first heard their music via the palace x bronze skate video a year or so ago, we did a bit of digging and it turned out to be by a duo called dima disk, one half of whom was an old glasgow pal called ragnar and robert nikolajev from tallinn s legendary club lekker. you may have heard their recent ripper on porridge bullet. having been fans of the shit coming out of estonia for a good few years and also having a thing for releasing music from our glasgow connections we felt that this needed to come out as a rad 12-.

one of our highlights of last year was nebraskas soften the wireless ep, with disco stomper khans bargain, and an amazing tom noble remix. since then, we’ve seen him take on quite a few live shows again, playing at claire during ade, and concrete for our label showcases. hes also managed to find a bit of time to focus on his fresh (new and cool) edit label friends and relations.

breaking his silence after twenty years, sebastian snoeck a.k.a sebastian s. will be the second member of belgian collective “bwp experiments” to release on the basic moves imprint. he has handed over two previously unpublished tracks made under the moniker caustic 14. after listening to “personal space invader” in 1997, carl craig asked sebastian s. to produce new material for his own label, planet e. “message in a box” and “rising star” were therefore made as a response to this request. however, due to a political transatlantic rift the tracks never saw the light of day and have since been stored on dat tapes, hidden away from the general public’s ears. if i had to describe sebastian’s output, i’d say it is most importantly energetic, positive, and groovy. it bears the mark of a certain nostalgia, shying away from the blind celebration of both futurism and experimentation in order to reach intemporality. this attempt to exist outside of time gives his productions a certain character and in my opinion his music has come to embody something i like to call “space opera techno”. sebastian s has succeeded where many before him have failed: by avoiding copycat tactics and simplified approaches to production he managed to create a singular identity. the tracks are recognisable after the first few seconds – and that’s what makes his work so unique!

after mukatsuku records summer hammond organ screamer from billy hawks (mukat 052) the label goes deep on an international funk tip. few years ago label manager nik played in france and the promoter pulled out a biosis now 45 that he never knew existed up till then and was generally thought to be a long album track only. an extensive search revealed nothing online including popsike/discogs/ebay except a tropical seller who d just bought a huge caribbean collection with the record included saying he d never seen it before either and he was keeping itâ&#128,¦failing to secure a copy themselves the label licensed it instead and created their own 45 edit which retains all the funk & soul of the elongated album version into a 7 inch friendly format. on the flipside and 1973 tumba safari from afro train get s a funky afrobeat re touch for peak time club play that would save you several hundred pounds on an original if you could actually find a copy !

harry miller aka glow in the dark is neither to be found on any social media channel nor can you google anything about him, let alone does he maintain a website. the man hides completely behind his music and quite obviously in his studio. after his debut in february earlier this year, now already a few months later, his second album drops, “into existence.”

next up on asking for trouble after selling out the album and re-pressing comes a four track remix ep for radioactive man’s luxury sky garden album. life-time friend of radioactive man and control tower partner dexorcist aka simon brown is first up to deliver his take on ‘sonic portal’ on the a side. his style has always been uncompromising and as a music lover and dj he s been a major influence on tenniswood’s style and taste for a long time. dexorcist turns in a detroit influenced banger which goes deep. ben pest then follows with his own take of the same track. a member of funk band pest, purveyor of wonky techno, music tech teacher and hardware enthusiast ben has also released on jerome hill’s don t’ label, i love acid and horror boogie to name a few. his take on ‘sonic portal’ is as genre bending and weighted as you’d expect. over on the b side pain struck stanley dumb remix ‘blast furnace’ - a fast and furious electro track which was released as a digital bonus to the album. they work it into a breakneck speed techno number. taste the amphetamine! completing the package biggabush (aka glyn bush) brings his dub influence to the mix. bush of rockers hi-fi connected with radioactive man during a mastering session asking to do the mix after hearing the record. the results are impressive and provide a welcome tempo and vibe change to the ep with its deep and dubby elements.

a kind of intimate scrapbook of the startling collaboration between the techno maestro and this long-standing musical collective based in bishkek, devoted to the roots music of kyrgyzstan. loose-leaved but balanced, lucid and intimate, it sets out from stunning a cappella and virtuosic komuz and kylak, mouth harp and traditional percussion: not field, but expert studio recordings, using marvellous vintage microphones, made over several days in berlin. further, a few of these are deftly treated by moritz, using reichian de-synced double-tracking, and discreet effects. also two ten-minute dubs: a deadly, signature berlin steppers, plus its version and an echoing, mystical drum session, recorded live on stage in bishkek. and a side-long, dream-like summation: the locomotive, oceanic, clangorous, dread facets. ravishing, rooted, searching music, beautifully presented.

when it comes to living legends in the texas and latin music pantheon, few have been at it longer and are more revered by their fans and peers than soul vocalist and mexican-american songwriter and bandleader sunny ozuna. he became a star right out of high school in the late ‘50s and hasn’t looked back in the six decades since.
among countless other honors and notable achievements, sunny was the first latino artist to appear on dick clark’s “american bandstand” (in 1963). songs like “put me in jail,” “talk to me,” “should i take you home,” “my dream” and “smile now, cry later” still bring crowds to their feet throughout the southwest and california and around the world at “oldies” and “lowrider soul” events. and after releasing dozens of albums since the mid-1960s (in spanish and english), sunny still keeps a busy schedule and loves performing as much as he did as a teenager. his classic 45s regularly change hands for hundreds of dollars among collectors around the world, affirming his timeless appeal.
this new compilation on brooklyn’s acclaimed big crown label is a lovingly curated selection of songs from the years 1966 to 1972. all compositions were originally released on sunny’s key-loc label, formed after his national star had been established, so he could have control of his own musical destiny. with sunny hits – a mix of originals and some great covers thrown in mr. brown eyed soul is an excellent celebration of sunny’s amazing body of work, and a perfect introduction for newcomers.

a new transmission from the pasadena oceanlab by versalife. the start of a new saga where he explores the boundaries between electro romantic sounds and glitchy idm percussions. tracks that have already been highly sought after since his live performance at boilerroom in doornroosje, nijmegen earlier this year. a few people might have heard this release in an already legendary dj set by objekt during the freerotation festival this year. more parts are on their way.

time for something a little different from public release.
eye o is the convergence of a few bay area stalwarts—kevin woodruff, formerly of tussle, and jason schwartz - and “deux o & debut” is their first studio-recorded public offering. the five-track, fifty-minute- long lp is a weaving journey through a pastiche of styles that’re all nephews, cousins, brothers, sisters of one another. kraut-rooted motorik drums reconfigure into more complicated math-y patterns, razor-sharp dance-punk guitars stretch out and dissolve into dubby post-rock atmospherics, synth loops you’d more commonly find in house tracks get grafted onto fuzzy psychedelic breakdowns, hard rock licks lock into chunky industrial grooves.
less for dancefloor destruction and more for trippy weekenders, the instrumental record manages to both be a focused, cerebral, conceptual hunk of fat to chew on and a spaced-out, intuitive ride through the cosmos. for use during those off-kilter small hours of the night just as much as it is vision quests and introspective weekends. it’s rare that an outpouring of so much can feel so simple and sublime.

airhead has put out some great music this year. kicking off with the radiophonic ice of kazzt for mumdance s different circles and just recently the low slung cristobal on ps records his production chops get bolder by the minute. it s no surprise seeing as he spent much of the previous year producing key tracks for the incredible -1-800 dinosaur presents trim- album alongside bullion and boothroyd as well as regularly touring and writing with long-time musical partner james blake. back with another 12- on hemlock, his first since 2014 s rolling october / macondo this time the sound is dustier, warmer, but packing twice the punch all the while retaining his signature understated wild-man groove. both tracks are capable on dancefloor whilst richly layered, packed with detail and arranged for maximum connectivity with contemporary beat styles such as house, techno and breaks. what happened to ricky martin? shaded is the twisted latin stepper you didn t know you needed, so much, right now. polished drums dug into a tweaky sci-fi soundbed make way for the curveball drop not every dj will be able to style out but those brave few that do will reap the reward. captain, we have an incoming transmission. by now, antipolo will be on the long-range scanners of a several fleets in this sector and is finally ready for replication and deployment. beaming out to the far reaches of the dancefloor we have bass, breakbeats and synth hooks but not as we know it together forming an advanced composite bond of extreme strength and malleability.

straight out of sligo, ireland, brame & hamo have expertly produced some of the most effortless house music of the last few years. following acclaimed releases on labels such as dirt crew and heist, the duo now take full control with their debut release on a fresh, personal imprint, simply titled brame & hamo . b&h001, trants , is a versatile three-tracker that expertly captures the light and shade of the duo s production pallette. opening the ep, title-track trants (say it aloud to trace the inspiration), provides a hugely satisfying denouement. awash in a retro-futurist haze, flavours of early bleep techno, dusty drums and yes, outright trance flavours provide the ingredients for a euphoria-inducing trip that culminates in a melodic call to arms-in-the-air. things get much tougher throughout hurt you , which begins with an immediate strike of chunky percussion, jacking chi-town rhythms and an unapologetically menacing organ line. as the requisite vocal sample delivers emotive threat, the mood only gets darker still, delivering something akin to an outsider house rendition of a lost dance mania cut. finally, providing a soft landing with an early-doors on-the-floor heater, clarence lives up to it s smooth mix subtitle, as a lounging piano line gently gives way to vibrant sax and a soothing female vocal sample, while still maintaining a precise and irresistible groove for the club. expanding seamlessly on their reputation as djs and producers with an instinctive understanding of the genre, b&h001 is as soulful, tough and deeply satisfying of a house record as anything in brame & hamo s already impressive musical repertoire. indeed, here s your trants, now dance!

with the audiothentica 007, the dj and producer sascha lebemann from frankfurt is returning to the sound production scene after a few years. after the audiothentica 001, he is responsible for the seventh release on his own label.

sonic groove’s latest high octane addition to the roster is berlin based british artist rebekah. rebekah has led a successful artist and dj career in the techno scene over the past five years with releases on the prolific clr and soma imprints as well as her own labels elements and decoy. her soma album from a few months ago entitled “fear paralysis” shows her artistic skills of having a wide range of flexibility as she weaved through many styles of techno from deep to hard.
taking her artistry into further realms of sound construction, rebekah ventures into a much harder industrial techno terrain with her latest four cut release entitled “into the black”. designed specifically with sonic groove in mind. “loose mechanics” & “conquest” are ferocious industrialized peak time techno pulverizers that will turn stone into dust.
“into the black” is an advant garde broken beat track with a pitch shifting, hauntingly dissonant string drone would be the perfect score for a sci-fi horror flick while “war cry” turns the blackness into a lighter shade of grey with it’s complexly designed chord driven emotions layered over a very intricately programmed drum rhythm.

abschaum is a rock band from lyon, incredibly good, which is trying to keep the mystery on their identity. sacha met them last year when they played an improvised concert at heart of glass, heart of gold, a festival in the middle of france, and felt under the charm of the energy of the band... few months later they recorded this lp, and what the fuck !! this was just mindblowing !! macadam mambo is presenting here one of its best release, in the influence of bands such as can, amon duul 2oralainbashung... abschaum will be on tour from october till the end of the year, so if you have the chance to see them playing don t miss it!

tidy line-up including randomer, gilbr, voiski and tolouse low trax. tip! in terms of experimental, techno, very few come close to the impact that this uk producer has had on the scene. with a sound that is rarely classifiable, randomer’s dekmantel contribution is a staggered, minimally-twisted, dark, kind-of-two step, awesome thing. versatile records’ gilb’r has found himself an integral part of the dutch scene since moving to amsterdam, and brings forth his organic, percussive grooves that have helped define his music, and label to date. salon des amateurs’ tolouse low trax provides a seasoned session of amniotic, grizzled, hypnotic post-everything music, that is eerily discomforting and wonderfully pleasurable at the same time. and on the ep’s fourth track, parisian techno wizard, voiski adds layered organic, futuristic loops that work to stale the progress of time, and space.

jules etienne has been skirting around labels such as apersonal music for a few years, but here makes a strong statement with a new record for cocktail d amore. triangle des bermudas is a swinging yet cosmically inclined jam powered by warm synth arpeggios, which regular collaborator massimiliano pagliara then nudges up into crafty deep house territory. cuban omlette is a delicate affair that interweaves pattering percussion and nagging synth lines to make a particularly heady brew before johns job finishes the record off with a richly layered drum track that should have djs across the board getting tricky in the mix.

this autumn, wah wah 45s are very proud to present their latest signing, an outfit who ve garnered huge praise from jools holland, are darlings of the guardian s music reviews pages, and have set festivals alight up and down the country with their unique melange of sounds. for a good few years, honeyfeet has been a conduit for the ideas and expressions of an exotic mixture of manchester based musicians. jazz? yes, some of that! folk? stick that in there! hip-hop? i thought you d never ask! someone once called it folk-hop and barrelhouse-pop, and that s just vague enough to make sense. it helps that they are fronted by ríoghnach connolly, real world s newest signing and -a remarkable singer and flautist who can ease from irish traditional influences to soul- (the guardian). this extraordinary band s debut single for wah wah 45s, sinner, was originally affectionately known as boingy squelch, after the unconventional sounds trombonist biff roxby used in his early demos. ríoghnach conveys the story of a woman who never intends on staying at home -chained to the sink- - -i may be a sinner, but i m not a slave-. in that way, the song is a rejection of outdated, traditional roles. since their previous album, 2013 s it s a good job i love you, keyboardist john ellis jumped on board as full-time member, bringing his unique musical presence. this enabled the development of a more texturally adventurous style, as witnessed with the dual atonal solo between himself and guitarist ellis davies on sinner. similarly, for their next lp, orange whip, engineer, bassist and spiritual guide lorien edwards makes his honeyfeet recording debut, so completing the -kitchen- of this very special band. sinner is released on limited 7- vinyl (100 copies only!) on october 20th and comes complete with a woozy, low slung club-friendly mix from former innocent sorcerer, polish dj and producer envee. the album, orange whip, will be released on wah wah 45s in the summer of 2018.

due to thyphoon dujuan, move d and his friends benoit bouquin aka initials b.b. & marco wollenberg were trapped in the studio for a few days, when david visited taipei in 2015 to play corner club. all the flights to and from the island were cancelled during the storm, so the three had some extended studio- and red-wine sessions. looking back from now- these were all worth it and the best thing that could happen- 3 hazy and timeless cuts from the eye of dujuan. as always it comes with a stunning full-cover artwork from stefan marx.

has underground house really run out of ideas? the aesthetic is no doubt getting worn out: you can barely move for tounge-in-cheek dj aliases, palm-tree emojis and vhs screen grabs of 90s a-listers. against that backdrop, helter cuts through like a rough-edged asteroid. -polaris ep-, the london producer s debut vinyl release after a few leaked tracks created a buss on soundcloud, hits the reset button on the hackneyed discourse that surrounds decayed house music. the four tracks on offer cascade between blasts of tectonic rhythm, colour and melody, and washed-out ambience, intertwining and soaking into each other. the deck is still broken, but it punches in all the right places. a sun-warped, boards of canada sequel pumped full of adrenaline and grit. the soundtrack to a broken ecstasy, sure to leave half the kids in a trance and the other with shit dripping down their legs. helter is pushing the genre of misshapen house music into a new dimension - one with more energy, and through a truly shattered lens.

saturne is the new project from asc & sam kdc. it came to life a few years back, as a non-specific genre approach to writing music. the first outing from the pair under this guise focuses on grey area compatible deep hypnotic techno cuts. trace elements shows the pairs intent to deliver intricate, atmospheric, genre-fusing tracks of a standard that has come to be expected for their output over the years.

just a few months after its first release, nitsa traxx comes back with a very special 12”. the project started with a file exchange between eduardo de la calle and ferenc. they decided to work each track on their own side using only a few isolated sounds from the other. this way none of the tracks could never be treated as a full original, but proper remixes of tracks that never existed, building an uncanny, almost dreamlike emotion. a side is for ferenc’s “parón largo”, where synthetic strings are omnipresent and time and space unbends, evolving to an anticlimax where an eerie vocal and the longest possible drop are the leading trademark. a never ending and emotional standstill that goes deeper than the mariana trench. eduardo de la calle uses his distinctive signature sound in the b side. “cloaking tech d fly d” is an obsessive yet beautiful track that reminds us of the somewhere in detroit series. this is a mental and heart-warming tribute to the motor city sound that just a producer like eduardo could do. next releases are on the corner already, and we can’t wait to share them with you.

mick has been active in the seedier corners of electronic music for more than 30 years, first immersing himself in the world of hi-nrg and new wave before embracing the house, techno, acid and electro explosion of the late 1980s. aligned with dj hell in the 90s and more recently the intergalactic fm crew, hes the quintessential selector. a life spent digging in the undergrowth for deviant dance music has given him the edge that makes a truly gifted spinner, without riding on hype or studio productions. however, mick isnt adverse to the odd outing on vinyl, having previously appeared on international dj gigolos both solo and as the kinky lovers with sometime partner isabella venis, but these moments are few and far between. for this release on arma, mick has given us two edits that speak to his distinctive style as a dj the original tracks are cult choices re-moulded into deadly, subversive club weapons. the brooding darkwave of himmelfahrt 89 is enough to turn the most indifferent bar crowd into swaying, baying denizens of the night, while stay silent pummels out a relentless electro motif that teeters on the edge of destruction for 11 thrilling minutes. these arent crowd-pleasing dj tools, and neither are they slick and easy edits of obvious classics. this is a peek into the inner workings of a man with decades of experience working masses of flesh into a sweaty fever pitch using sounds youve never heard before. the mastering on micks edits was undertaken by none other than dutch electro legend rude 66, while the striking artwork on the sleeve sees arma reach out for the first time to french artist judex. the nerve-shredding, broken op-art assault was originally found in a book published by cult illustrator sam rictus.

swat s third release & detroit is in the house ! there are times in which you can clearly mark a producer s evolution. when they stop inching towards growth and make a bold statement of change in capability and vision. such is the case with this ep from detroit-based disco guru, pontchartrain. after a few years of steadily pushing out some significant pieces of work that have increasingly straddled the line between originals and edits, and nearly a decade of studio experience, his long overdue official house music debutante has arrived. featuring detroit local soul artist, coko buttafli laying down some blistering vocals with a clearly positive house music message, on top of live percussion and keys, and bold analog drum rhythms, pontch has created a solid diva-house gem. the sneaky festival-ready banger, loose , performed, mixed, and overdubbed live, provides some fantastic contrast and versatility to the release. a mr. g-esque remix by dj phenom just alexander and the musical journey of topher horn s evolving and deep version on the flipside make this a well rounded record that will undoubtedly stay in your bag for a good long while, and will find its way back in for years to come.

i try to perform as honestly as possible — the soundbite borrowed from late dancer dudley williams for this record s second track could have been uttered by the mole himself. it s this candor that has allowed us to bear witness to a very marked and very audible transition from his days as a producer in montreal to becoming a part of the berlin scene. and what we have here is one result of that very explicit sonic metamorphosis. de la planet is our dyslexic subject s third studio album, one that stays true to his ethos of weird above all in the best possible sense. and yet it feels like something distinctly new. tapping his enormous reservoir of vinyl and sampling the odd film have acted as complement to the jaw-dropping arsenal of synthesizers at de la plante s disposal—a battery of machines he s been quietly improving his skills on during the past few years. or not so quietly, perhaps. the man himself would probably say -i m coming out of the woodshed-, and go off on a tangent about sonny rollins and his saint of a wife. but that s a story for another sheet.

originally released in 1982, including tracks written for crosstalk (a science fiction thriller film made in australia) and other electronic themes, it was written, performed and recorded by chris neal in his home studio, using roland system 700 and roland mc8. in 1982 there were only a few system 700s ever produced and roland was more interested in promoting their more commercial system 100m (that s why it was credited on the 1982 original cover to give them a plug). the system 700 was developed by taro kakahashi and his team in japan as a direct challenger to the moog modular system. the orbeatize remastered reissue also includes a special bonus track remixed and produced in 2017 by jolly mare.
