optimo trax is an offshoot label of optimo music for tracks aimed at djs/dancefloors. yes, we know there are too many record labels already, but we felt an overriding desire to start another one as so much music that didnt seem quite right for optimo music (i.e. music that was specifically designed for dancing) kept coming our way. like the parent label, optimo trax will release music by new artists and excavate forgotten classics.

gerome sportelli presents sporty limited, a new record label managed by himself as a limited vinyl series. after big success with his krax records in 2004, veteran gerome sportelli is back with a new label project. the genre of the label swings between dance floor oriented house and techno, with a touch of acid and of course some dusty old school flavours. gerome’s already active in the music industry since the early 90’s as a producer, dj, label manager, party promoter and graphic designer. his music ‘smells’ old school, just like the early age of acid house, but infused with today’s intelligent constructions and an engaged vision on music. gerome’s music is made from bronze age analogue synths, love, passion and modern digital mixing techniques.for this first sporty limited release, gerome comes out with three stylish tracks. the first track, a side “drive”, is a fat house stomper with strong stabs and female voice hits. the break is intense and works effectively on packed dance floors. b1 is called “free range” and feels like summer. it’s full of classic house sounds, filtered strings and hypnotic loops. this is a chicago­styled, disco sampled, deep and classy house track we love and cherish. the b2 track, “don’t go”, is composed with a classic house bass, shuffled 909 drums and dark space strings. you’ll immediately recognize the deep and melodic detroit house sound.

with millimetric the catalog number 018 presents an analog synth lover who released his electro influenced tracks already on goodlife, the label of oxia & the hacker.

the flipside *neuer morgen* is a different journey: melancholy synth-melodies facing with strong snare fill ins. last but not least at the end of this record toureau (parquet) shakes the whole track on his nacht-version-remix in an oldschool ebm-style.

fort romeau continues to roll out thoughtfully detailed productions for ghostly in 2013. in march, the london-based producer released the chicago house influenced *sw9* single on ghostlys sub-label spectral sound, and showed his versatile house rhythms in july with its follow-up, the jetee / desire single. 2014 will see his debut album for ghostly — it is his second full-length record, with his debut album kingdoms being released last year on la outsider dance institution 100% silk. in the meantime, he continues to forge masterful house on this four-track ep, entitled stay / true.

no introduction is really needed for the massive balearic anthem *jibaro*. elkin & nelsons scorching latin disco classic hit big throughout spain, south america and nycs underground club scene in 1979 when this now rare and hard-to-find disco 12 inch version originally dropped, but it gained its real cult status after being picked up and championed up by the likes of rampling, oakenfold et al who who fell in love it after hearing it played by the legendary dj afredo at ibizas amnesia club. instantly recognisable and supremely dancable, this is one of the true heavyweights of the balearic scene - and a must have for any serious record collection.

vessel no 6 is airborn and your cabin crew serves you three gems on wax, road-, air- and space- tested throughout the last six months. a1 is a straight groover with an undeniable feelgood vocal, carfully rearranged for your dj needs. first officer nebraska joint ventures the record on b1 with an emotional, ever building piece of jazz funk and reminds us once more of how the art of editing has to be approached. with so much hoopla already going on, b2 leans back, happy to strip it all down and hitting us with a break that starts, floats, and then, lucky audience, just dont stop. dont stop, dont stop, over and out.

since we opened our small record store in brighton we have been asked repeatedly for new garage releases on wax. this reminded us that not too much that is available at the moment which could easily fit that criteria. and as long term garage fans ourselves we are more than happy to oblige the faithful with 4 killa darkside steppers from londons buzzin 10. the beats harken back to classic uk garage but are topped off by synths that share common musical ground with detroit electro or european electronica.

after a remix for dasos so sexy last year, the german-peruvian artist martin patiño confirms his presence on popcorn records with an entire ep. to begin with, solid ground is born from the collaboration with astrid. we already heard them on the great hunter ep on cadenza at the beginning of the year. the result of this new featuring is an original techno track with all the good components you expect from tr707 drums to a xylophone melody, in addition to the sexy and reassuring voice of astrid. the american pezzner honored us with a particular interpretation. a deep theme, with percussions, long and subtle panpipes breathe. as if pezzner was paying tribute to martin patinos roots. finally, routinary coffes comes to conclude this warm and deep record done for the sweating parties of the upcoming winter.

compound eye is drew mcdowall (formerly of coil) and tres warren (psychic ills and messages). *journey from anywhere* is their second long-player release following *origin of silence*, an art edition lp on the spring press label. this double lp features 4 sides of improvised electronics that lead the listener into the dark recesses of the duos subterranean explorations. each of these works move at a slow and considered pace, gradually unfolding into a transportive blur of dark psychedelic minimalism. like elements of coil long form works this is a music which has the potential to melt time, open space and create a flowing web of liquid memory. a sublime record for those who like music that encourages travel.

wanda group, aka louis johnstone, is the latest artist to release a record with notown recordings. an artist who *creates beautiful, decayed landscapes of tape crackle, hiss and distortion* (the quietus), the music of wanda group is an other-worldly collage of sounds that touch on musique concrete and other forms of oblique, densely beautiful sounds.

pretty cool edits of two monster hits. dancefloor anthems for crowds worldwide. the a side is a more positive jam whilst on the b side we find a growing dancefloor beast. definitely a smashing record.

ltd repress !!! another main player of the current elite of deephouse producers makes an anonymous but definitely not impersonal appearance on the ever great story imprint. right from the beginning of >fascinated< we get slowely woven into a maze by the spellbinding introduction of a sultry soulstress and when the eeriy string, gentle harp sweeps and a swinging yet almost coy beat fall in it only adds to the feeling of hazy, latenight intimacy. >taj mahal< has a more robust, earthy beat with tabla and deep twangy sitar sounds panning around, making you see all these groovy colors and feel like you are lifted above ground and even >you better find a job< - despite its title - doesnt even try to pull you back to earth and into dull reality. its warm pulsating bass, psychedelic feedback and flanger sounds much rather urge you to flip that record over again and stay in the groove
