lithuania s greyscale returns this december with ohrwert’s “fidelis / blavus”, backed with remixes from xdb and grad_u.
greyscale was launched in 2012 by lithuanian producer and dj grad_u, and photographer rima prusakova, set up as a platform for material from grad_u and close friends whilst prusakova’s black and white analogue photography provides the visual identity of the label.
the original mix of “blavus” opens the ep, perfectly setting the tone with murky, ethereal atmospherics, billowing dub echoes, modulating percussion and thunderous drums before dubtechno stalwart xdb strips things back a little with soft touches of the originals airy drones tucked away in the depths whilst choppy stabs and dynamically unfolding analogue rhythms wander throughout.
the second original from ohrwert opens the flip-side, upping the energy levels slightly with hooky stab-sequences, filtered delays and hypnotic melodies running alongside a sturdy percussive foundation. lastly to round out the release grad_u reworks “blavus” into a more groove-driven workout, employing shuffled hats, looped dub chords and bumpy sub-bass hits throughout.

greyscale s next full-length release come from german based artist audhentik. titled hypno , this album encompasses 14 pieces that dive deep into a heavily-based synthetic world of atmospheric ambient and dub. imagine if you took some amazing pictures of a desert island then put on a pair of ambient dub filtered glasses on. a picture-esque nature beach scene has been processed so heavily that they evoke memories of a place you have been before. this is a true artistry in ambience. perspectives combines a wonderful balance of field recordings with washed out chords of grandeur. breathtaking and majestic like looking down on to a city from an amazing view off a mountaintop. period explores an off-kilter dub rhythm while feeling stuck in a languid moment of disorientation as the track disperses the tension near the end. that astounding build leads perfectly in to the title piece. hypno is a 9+ minute journey deep into the abyss with a track of pure aural pleasure. epic is an understatement here. a standout among many other standout s here. infinite edit is one of the key interlude s that link the tracks together on the album. this one provides a thinner airier stratosphere then the previous ones giving you a chance to catch your breath as you prepare for another trek into the depths of static . this one has you feeling adrift in a nautical theme of optimism through the arduous recent events of a shaky future. a wonderful storytelling is evolving on hypno ...

greyscale unveils its latest long player masterpiece! mood series regular altone, has had four eps credited to himself on the label in the past year alone. >forest land< is his first full length and its a deep journey with ten tracks of some of the strongest and most high-quality dub techno in the business. >hunt< & >ethereal night< are not for the faint of heart. these are some of the headiest and immersive tracks we have heard yet at the label. then there is >oak< & >pinecone< which hone in on and harken to a lost age of traditional dub from the mother land. enjoy being transported with >flying leaves< & >downpour< as they give off impressions of scenic landscapes from distant memories. altone then adds a good dancefloor number for those house lovers in the addictive groove >cold ground<. >pebble< is reminiscent of some of the best of intrusion with its gentle waves of chords that surround you like a warm blanket on a cold winters night. lastly, >morning dew< is a standout crescendo bringing the album to a triumphant closing is pure class. >forest land< is guaranteed to have something for everyone and to also impress the most hardened dub techno critics as well. altone is proving he is a name to keep an eye on!
