percebes is releasing its third record since its inception in february, well before its first birthday. bent on showcasing portugal’s most talented “under the radar” producers and musicians, the new record is authored by one of the countries most well kept secrets: early jacker. early jacker is famed music producer hugo vinagre, a master of disguise, who is also known as miguel torga or turista. vinagre has a detailed yet minimalistic approach to production as early jacker he explores pure underground house music, inspired by a dubby take on the new york house school.

in many ways, it s difficult to believe wehbba only dropped his first full-length ep on drumcode this year. released in february, the four-tracker eclipse was a monster statement piece of the brazilians talents and followed on superbly from fake, his contribution to last year s a-sides vol.6 inarguably one of the biggest tracks on the compilation. with the confirmation that wehbba will take part in drumcode s off week party in barcelona, followed by the brand s takeover of resistance in ibiza, its indisputable proof that his crisp, chord-driven take on techno has become a vital component to the expansive palette of sound adam beyer has drawn for the label in 2018 and beyond. catarse marks the rapid-fire follow-up from the prolific producer. opening with the eerie she lost control, wehbba says he took inspiration from the joy division track of almost the same name (‘she s lost control ), but instead of crafting the dense sonic atmosphere with vocals, he employs an analogue kick drum and stealth-like moog bass with dramatic results. process follows, a cut which begun as a cover jam of laurent garnier s crispy bacon and ends up incorporating the cut-up vocals of legendary minimal composer steve reich, who is one of wehbba s chief inspirators. the resulting track is an ice-cool percussive work that s rich in dancefloor functionalism. the title track will be familiar to many who follow drumcode radio, a goose-bump inducing highlight of beyers dcr392 at awakenings in eindhoven, catarse is driven by a memorable melodic riff resplendent in 90s techno euphoria. the ep concludes with the terrific mind awake, a powerful concoction of reverb heavy basslines and glitchy effects, that s been thoroughly road tested by both beyer and wehbba and kicks like a rodeo bull.

after being one of the many standouts on the we are opilec…! vol. iii compilation back in 2016, i-robots glamouflage is now getting a full vinyl release with artwork by tomozo kevorkian, who was designer for nyc s body & soul, and remixes by a standout team of producers from japan to switzerland to south africa and the usa. opening up the ep is a fantastic new take ii version from label boss i-robots, who added exclusive chinese vocal samples recorded on the streets of huang jiang city many years ago. the track is inspired by ennio morricone and supermax and is a loose and infectious groove with brilliant drums and percussion and an elastic bassline that really gets you moving. it s a subtle update to the original—also included here as a bonus cut—which itself is a steamy and tropical sounding groove. swiss electronic pioneer schaltkreis wassermann then features on a version of the original that reaches for the cosmos with its rugged bass riffs, tumbling toms and busy, ever evolving groove. it has a big breakdown with exotic synths wandering through the night and oodles of effects and big guitar licks. the first of the remixes comes from kuniyuki takahashi who has been a big supporter of i-robots since 2000. he is a sound designer from japan who had a compilation of his works put out by music from memory back in february. his version is laden with cosmic synths and chants, grunting and organic drums and is sure to be massive this summer thanks to its open air vibes. detroit s underrated but vital gary martin is the boss of the teknotika label and his version featuring colten decker playing an unusual sax line shows another side to the motor city. it s a curious and mysterious tune that makes for an unsettling atmosphere that keeps you locked throughout as it snakes along.

hannes norrvide has had a busy year, it has been only six months since the latest album from lust for youth was released and since then he has released the debut album of norin in the shape of february’s “bakom planteringen”, he has released his collaborative work with frederik valentin under the name kyo with june’s “aktuel musik” lp and the earlier “potentiel musik” cassette album. now he is ready with the second vinyl release under his norin guise.

rival consoles is electro acid-smith ryan lee west from leicester. influenced by impressionists like claude debussy and modern electronic artists such as autechre and squarepusher, he created his unique signature. a playful and brutal mix of idm acid beats and warm, emotive synth string arrangements. in february 2017 he released and toured the more quirky vemeer ep under his second musical alias aparatec, which sold like hot cakes and earned him a lot of fans. the 10 inch vinyl includes a download code.

the score for “the theory of everything” is created by the recently deceased (9 february 2018) icelandic composer jóhann jóhannsson. jóhannsson’s intricate compositions provide a stunning backdrop to the romantic drama about stephen and jane hawking, portrayed in the film by eddie redmayne (“les misérables”) and felicity jones (“the amazing spider-man 2”). he has composed music for many films including scoring director denis villeneuvue’s film “prisoners” and josh c. waller’s “mccanick”. limited edition of 1500 individually numbered copies on transparent blue 180 gram double vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve.

steve reich’s new album “pulse / quartet”, released on cd and digitally in february, is now available on vinyl as well (with download code included). pulse is performed by international contemporary ensemble (ice), and quartet by colin currie group.

after me planet e are proud to present momentum, a two-track collaboration between carl craig and argentinian live electronic collective klauss. the ep is a result of an unplanned production session at the bands buenos aires studio in february of last year. each running at over ten minutes long and brimming with tension, both tracks use analogue grooves to form a grounding for meditative loops and mind-bending sonic processes to wander.

adam beyer s drumcode closed out another hugely successful year in 2017, with a non-stop release schedule showcasing some of the best techno on offer from both the labels roster of artists to some fresh new names popping up on the scene. now in its 21st year, the label announced its drumcode festival later this summer, that will only contribute to solidify their position as the world s no.1 techno label. making his debut on drumcode in 2017 with his track fake featured on the a-sides vol 6 compilation, one of brazil s much loved exports wehbba brings us his first full ep this february with eclipse . a no nonsense 4 track offering, and all thoroughly road tested by adam, they have gained much support from longtime drumcode fans. eclipse, delivers a low end rumble along with a modulating synth line. reigning high throughout the track, is the undeniably catchy and unique synth. leaving this track one to be recognised on dancefloors all over the world. ‘protocol doesn t turn down the pace, straight into a chugging hypnotic drive, this track leaks with attitude, along it s eerie undertones. probably the most acid influenced track of the ep, glasswerk has a futuristic modular synth riff which thunders along a hypnotic bass line which flows nicely into framework to close out the ep. its punchy and powerful kick sits alongside the cleverly crafted synth pattern, taking this track into a dark zone with a groovy element still resonant.

louie vega joins forces with the martinez brothers and revered salsa singer hector lavoe this february for shut the door. the martinez brothers have rapidly become two of the most in demand djs and producer across the globe and here we see them make a welcome return to their cuttin headz imprint for one of their most accomplished projects to date. collaborating with the infamous house aficionado and one half of masters at work, louie vega whilst the vocal additions come courtesy of puerto ricos hector lavoe, one of the most revered salsa singers in the history of the genre. the tmblv main mix of shut the door opens, offering a refined house feel fuelled by smooth chord swells and organic percussion as hector lavoe’s vocal contributions ebb and flow through the rolling groove. a tmblv main instrumental follows, stripping away the vocal contributions to the heady groove alone. the martinez brothers up-tempo energy fuelled production then shines through on the tmblv beats mix offering their dynamic and intricate drum arrangement style whilst the processing the latin vocals from hector lavoe showcases louie vegas finessed additions to the composition. lastly a tmblv beats instrumental closes, again tipping the focus solely over to the swinging drums and snaking subs

penthouse penthouse is a duo born out of the la-based crew team supreme. their debut lp ‘cruise control’ lands on alpha pup this february, with features from tony larchmont, carla, love logiq, kingjet and more. right in time for valentine’s day, cruise control is a smooth and sultry 9-tracker of r&b-tinged pop songs. in the short time since the group’s formation, they have collaborated with the likes of djemba djemba, mr. carmack, stwo, chloe martini, marvel alexander & promnite and have been billed with acts such as xxyyxx, sweater beats, salva, and the glitch mob. their music has received support from bbc radio 1, vice, earmilk, and la’s kcrw.

taking its title from a minoan legend that deals with rage, greed and destruction, the latest release from abyss x expands and reconstructs conceptions of aural space and time. out on february 23 on danse noire, pleasures of the bull finds the multi-disciplinary artist and producer flirting with the sounds of hard jazz while mystifying the parameters of experimental music across several distinct movements, thus allowing the listener to break free from their sonic principles.

perez is one of the new faces in the french scene and has been so since 2013 when he released a first ep (perez, dirty/kompakt) and played concerts which caught the attention of the press. perez claims to have a taste for singular electronic pop and the music he produces certainly is. his records collection has albums by christophe and bashung standing next to pulp and suicide ones, among productions by the dfa and kompakt labels. for his second album cavernes (to be released in february 2018 on his own record label etoile distante), perez has collaborated with berlin producer and friend strip steve (boys noize, clone royal oak, waxtefacts). on this one he delivers a particular sound combining a story-telling singing sometimes verging on the fantastic with electronic club music. but perez does not only write songs. after being artist-in-residency at the palais de tokyo (paris), he made a sound installation in 2014 for the villa noailles in hyeres, france. he also composed for the scenographies of contemporary artists dominique gonzalez foerster, saâdane afif or ange leccia. in 2016 he was awarded by the drac and was given the opportunity to compose basing his inspiration on pieces of the collection of the regional fund of contemporary art.

intraverso is a journey in that momentary inbetween land that many of us experience sometimes. it explores the turmoil of feelings of when one gets stuck in the middle, floating in between ambition and complete stillness.
fabrizio lapiana is a well-known name on the contemporary italian techno scene. he has been involved in music since the 90’s when he started dj ing in his hometown rome. to date he has over two handfuls of releases on labels such as figure jams, arts and m_rec ltd - as well as his own imprint, the well renowned attic music, founded in 2008.
intraverso is fabrizio’s debut album, set for release on his label. the record is a very personal journey, according to the artist himself. you here find him examining different territory than where he usually heads within his productions. the album, which consists of nine songs in total, was composed between april 2016 and february 2017 in his studio in rome. written in a state of -introspect-, we here see an artist in motion. changing. evolving. the perfect moment to explore something new and unveil a different side of yourself to the world.

german producer silent-one presents an ambient four track release on his own label intimate silence this february. part of the from another mind crew longside obscure shape & shdw and javier ba&#776,,hr, silent-one (real name benedikt merkl) launched intimate silence as a platform for ambient music in 2016. since then the label has hosted artists like ressort imprint regular g&#322,,o&#769,,s, taapion records co-founder pvnv and arsenik records’ dold, however this release sees the label founder make his very own debut. fuzzy atmospherics and chilling chord sequences set the tone for the ominous ‘human border’ before ghostly synths and twinkling melodies work together to form ‘decide your fate’. on the flip, mesmerising arpeggios meander within an echoing setting in ‘sign of anxiety’ until the murky ‘lost souls’ pairs dusky elements with a spoken word sample to create a sci-fi aesthetic to conclude the release.

new york’s p.leone debuts on rekids special projects with four vinyl-only techno cuts this february. debuting on spencer parker’s work them records in 2016, p.leone has since launched his own imprint entitled e-missions alongside label partner caiazzo. moving to berlin last year, the american producer has quickly earned himself a name within the german capital, making regular appearances at the likes of tresor and ://about blank, and now joining respected berlin-based label rekids as part of their vinyl-only series. metallic echoes, robust kicks and breakbeat percussion lay the foundation for ‘rose petal breaks’, before ‘noon service’ demonstrates crystalline synths and futuristic effects. on the flip, thudding drums and energetic claps form ‘hold me down’ until the ominous ‘sometimes i feel strong’ concludes the package with rattling components and a cacophony of intricacies.

pale blue, the duo of elizabeth wight and mike simonetti, released their debut album too much critical acclaim back in 2015. they come together once again with their latest ep you stopped dying due to drop on crosstown rebels in february. the you stopped dying ep takes influence from shoegaze groups like slowdive and my bloody valentine and moves it to the dance floor. the result is a strange hybrid that some have called technogaze. this would never work if liz wasnt such a strong vocalist. her amazing vocal range makes it easy. mike simonetti pale blue is a hypnotic affair, the driving bass sitting perfectly under wight’s powerful yet ethereal vocals. daughter of babylon takes the record into heavier techno territory with its thudding bass and wights breathy vocals delicately layered over the top. on the flip side love is an unapologetically industrial number with screeching synths that echo around wights vocals. simonetti and wight have each earned their musical stripes in their own rights. simonetti founded the hugely popular italians do it better as well as his own successful record label, 2mr. he’s released a slew of records on highly regarded imprints such as me me me, correspondant and public release, and enjoys a fruitful career as a touring dj, which shows no sign of abating. wight has previously lent her exhilarating vocals to the west coast band, silver hands of which she was once one half

from the redwood forests of big sur and the industrial warehouses of downtown los angeles comes pfeiffer, a label dedicated to quality and a diverse musical output. pfeiffer follows in the footsteps of labels such as svek and kompakt, known for releasing a wide range of techno and house with a common thread of unique and unpredictable energy. looking to bring this type of eclectic curation into the modern era, pfeiffer draws inspiration from the raw simplicity and effortless magnetism of its namesake location on the central coast of california. february 9th marks the release of pfeiffers first musical offering. a-side big tent sets the tone with raw, minimal percussion and acid tinged melodies. b-side twist brings a healthy dose of chicago and detroit influence to a track that feels colder than house, but warmer than techno. the first of many releases to come, pfe001 marks the tip of the iceberg for pfeiffer, a label which will continue to reveal itself over time.

knife edge precision separates arkaik from the crowd, with an unrivaled delivery in dark, stripped back beats and timelapse collates some of his best work to date. clinical bass stabs are rife throughout, with eerie atmospherics keeping the tension heightened as the shanghai resident consolidates his unique dancefloor style. with infectious grooves, techno inspired progression and sub pressure to test any soundsystem, timelapse is a testament to arkaik’s mastery of the minimal sound.
