ahus debut album from 2017, nord dream, was something of an overlooked gem from that year, but its musical palette of dubwise techno and ambient sounds caught the ears and enthusiasm of many. danny clancy was one such admirer, and in turn brings ahus sophisticated sounds to his dichotomy records label for the ‘atlas ep.

you re alone and you close your eyes. don’t imagine figures of light, make the darkness conscious. it becomes deeper, not eyelids anymore, and then something is around you, but you can’t open your eyes, you’re deep inside them. merge into oneness, not bright above not dark below. something with has no echo. waves and motion, not space and time. if a tree falls in a forest where no one is listening, does it make a sound? there are no signs in the snow. why this dream of something cold? the world is blue at its edges, the colour of that which can never be possessed. blue flames, deep ice, twilight. how do you observe yourself without knowing that you’re looking? the other side of your face. why don’t you let the gap be a gap? i was afraid there was too much space. when you stop focusing the image appears. everything seen at once. turn yourself into a point to get behind the surface. a messenger between two worlds. the hidden meaning behind alchemy: to be born again. you’re not born into this world but out of it. travel by heat, words are too slow. sound knows how to get around edges, wiser than light.

persian ahu karimi is a berlin resident. he began his musical exploits in a punk band in tehran but time and space and inertia have distilled his music into a rare spiritual essence, with a delicacy and evanescence like memory. the five tracks here have a gauze like quality.

roya is project of sohrab karimi (ahu) and rasul gafarov (lenta) presenting the live recordings the two made as they met in studio during two different summers. all tracks are extracts from long jam sessions in which they played previsouly released & unreleased material live and with no rehearsal at all. in fact, siah mashq itself means rehearsal or practice.

exciting compilation featuring some of the best 45s, released 1974-77, by anadolu pop singer gulden karabocek. baglama and zurna mix with synthesizers, bubbling bass and wah-wah guitars. traditional folk melodies fold neatly into nippy prog-funk arrangements that owe a lot to pioneering bands like baris mancos kurtalan ekspres.

heady, astute, deep techno and ambient from blue veil, a new musical project from danny clancy. blue veils debut ep reveals gorgeously textured techno on tracks like wherethetimegoes and citizen score, as well as crafting some tender ambient passages on cuts like night czar and a kind of adventure. the ep will be released on dichotomy records, a new imprint, dedicated to refined electronic music. the labels ambition is to allow artists to explore dichotomies through their work, as they span sonic landscapes from pure ambient to techno, and other abstract dance sounds in-between. there will be a strong attention to the visual presentation of the label, with all artwork and photography also created by label boss danny clancy. with the next release lined up from ahu, and more to follow from there, the agenda for dichotomy records looks hugely promising indeed.

at the moment ahu sohrab presented his first release on the beautiful shahr farang label, i was bewitched by the incredible intensity of his sound.. very sophisticated and subtle..one of the few occasions >deep< seems to match to describe. for the second release, it s lenta who continues this path of scapes and ambiance...

mr beatnick has played an active part in the burgeoning uk beats scene which has produced talents like bullion and paul white. his best known track >i know all the bitches< featuring the vocal talents of ahu, became one of the anthems of this movement, thanks to numerous spins on the likes of bbc radio 1 and rinse fm. in his music you can hear the influence of whole generations of music from mantronix to the 90s bay area scene and beyond, and the new ep >synthetes< takes this approach up a gear, exploring a path between the crackling breaks and samples of old, and the dancefloor music of now. with early support from braiden (rinse fm), slackkk (numbers), bullion (young turks), mosca (nightslugs / fat city) and gilles peterson (bbc radio 1), the >synthetes ep< looks set to find a unique place in the record boxes of bass addicts and beat diggers alike this summer.
