Some of the coolest work we’ve ever heard from Moraes Moreira – a really unique hybrid of styles that includes samba soul, jazzy funk, and other Brazilian modes from the 70s – all wrapped up into a beautifully fresh and personal approach! The 70s all wrapped up into a beautifully fresh and personal approach!
There's elements here that would please any fan of Jorge Ben from the time, while other cuts have a more offbeat quality that echoes some of the very hip soundtrack material that was coming out at the time – especially on some of the records by some of Moraes' contemporaries on the Som Livre label. The whole thing is great – a really wonderful musical discovery – and titles include "Do Som", "Desabafo E Desafio", "Guitarra Baiana", "Sempre Cantando", "Violao Vagabundo", and "Se Voce Pensa".[info from nw]
