Dorio applied his affinity for orchestrally-inspired live instrumentation to the cut-and-paste methodology employed across hip-hop and dance music. Aligning those influences, Flood Magazine recently described Dorio’s sound as “an upbeat form of bubblegum-pop and hip-hop percussion that recalls the recent neo-psych output of Stones Throw Records.” The songwriter brought in drummer CJ Eliasen to rework Dorio’s own version of a funky 90s-does-70s beat. Such reverse engineering occurred in his Austin-based home studio, where Dorio first met CJ while recording and producing other bands’ music.
