(en) As long-standing fans of one of the most accomplished producers in electronic music today, we at Kompakt were more than delighted to release JOHN TEJADA's album PARABOLAS one year ago, a carefully arranged body of work exhibiting stunning amounts of musicality while dauntlessly delving into the depths of its own sound. Now, Kompakt readies the next strike from this exceptional musician with his latest full length THE PREDICTING MACHINE. It was a slightly unexpected turn of events for both the label and the mastermind behind such massive tracks as "Mono On Mono" or "Sweat On The Walls", when both decided to release Parabolas on Kompakt, but it felt immediately like a perfect match. So perfect indeed, that even Tejada's own label Palette Recordings is now distributed by Kompakt. "The previous album was made before I knew what I would do with it", says Tejada, readily acknowledging that the material for Parabolas' successor The Predicting Machine was composed with Kompakt in mind: "This felt like it had a direct purpose. I think that freed me a bit creatively". From the bleepy opener "Orbiter" to the jacking main single "Stabilizer", the shuffling "An Ounce Of Perception" or the trademark bounce of tracks like "Horizon To Horizon" and "A Familiar Mood", this album covers a lot of ground before closing its run with the soothing "When All Around Is Madness", a cut that perfectly summarizes Tejada's deeply focussed approach to making music. "The technical process was more involved than Parabolas", explains the producer: "I dug deeper on the modular side trying out many new things, which inspired a lot of the songs". While that's exactly how we like to imagine the master at work, hunched over a plethora of scientific sounding modules, meticulously planning out the waveform of some random click, this doesn't do justice to Tejada's finely tuned melodic sensibilities denouncing a repeat offender when it comes to pure musicality and unadulterated emotion. Every single one of Tejada's sounds sees its own personal evolution, being send on a track-long journey through wondrous landscapes, worlds that are "alien" in the most human way possible, inviting you to stay and lionize the marvels on display. John Tejada truly is an architect of epic story arcs, and he builds them on the smallest of surfaces, finding grandness in every detail.
(de) Als langjährige Fans eines der versiertesten Produzenten elektronischer Musik heutzutage war es für Kompakt eine große Ehre JOHN TEJADA's PARABOLAS im letzten Jahr zu veröffentlichen, ein äußerst sorgfältig arrangiertes Album, dessen Musikalität und Tiefe den Atem raubt. Jetzt bereitet Kompakt mit THE PREDICTING MACHINE den nächsten Streich des Ausnahme-Musikers vor. Sowohl für das Label als auch das Genie hinter solch massiven Hits wie "Mono On Mono" oder "Sweat On The Walls" war es eine durchaus überraschende Wendung, als entschieden wurde Parabolas auf Kompakt zu veröffentlichen, doch schnell entpuppte sich die Übereinkunft als perfekter Deal. So perfekt, daß inzwischen sogar Tejada's eigenes Label Palette Recordings den Weg zum Kompakt-Vertrieb gefunden hat. "Das vorherige Album wurde fertiggestellt, bevor ich überhaupt wusste wohin damit", sagt Tejada und gibt zu, daß Parabolas' Nachfolger bereits mit Kompakt im Sinn komponiert wurde: "Das fühlte sich an, als ob einen unmittelbaren Sinn hat. Ich glaube, das hat mich kreativ ein wenig befreit." Vom bleepy Opener "Orbiter" bis zur jackenden Single-Auskopplung "Stabilizer", vom schaffelnden "An Ounce Of Perception" oder dem Tejada-typischen Schwung von "Horizon To Horizon" und "A Familiar Mood" steckt dieses Album ein riesiges Gebiet ab, bevor es mit dem besänftigenden "When All Around Is Madness" einen eleganten Abschluß findet. Letzterer ist ein Track, der besonders virtuos den tiefenmodulierten Ansatz des Produzenten wiederspiegelt: "Das technische Verfahren war sehr viel verwickelter als bei Parabolas", erklärt Tejada, "Ich habe mich sehr viel tiefer in das modulare Produzieren hineingewühlt und viele neue Dinge ausprobiert, die einen großen Teil der Tracks auf The Predicting Machine inspiriert haben." Während das genau dem Bild entspricht, daß wir vom Meister bei der Arbeit haben – über eine Fülle von wissenschaftlich klingenden Soundmodulen gebeugt und minutiös die Wellenform eines beliebigen Klick-Geräuschs durchplanend –, tut es doch Tejada's haarfein justiertem Gefühl für Melodien Unrecht, welches den Wiederholungstäter verrät, wenn es um pure Musikalität und unverfälschte Emotion geht. Jeder einzelne von Tejada's Sounds erfährt seine eigene Entwicklung, wird auf eine formatfüllende Reise durch wundersame Landschaften geschickt, fremdartige Welten, die den Hörer dennoch zum Verweilen und Bewundern einladen. John Tejada ist wahrhaftig ein Architekt epischer Handlungsbögen, baut sie auf kleinste Oberflächen und findet Größe in jedem Detail.
