Re.You returns with the second YOUNION document. The label extension of his event concept, YOUNION firms our focus on precision selection where quality quashes quantity. Like his parties where the line-up relishes in close connections rather than the all-too-common top-loaded hype parade, the label drawers deep and encourages no boundaries.
Following the inaugural release with Terranova, Eins Tiefer and Re.You himself in September, this second document continues the theme of openness, crafty unpredictability and heady, vibe-heavy tech.
It also features some out Re.You’s longest standing friends: Tiefschwarz, the guys who gave Re.You his debut EP release in 2010. Here they team up with old pal Ruede Hagelstein, following up 2014’s immense ‘Fire It Out’ with two wily, unkempt moments of groove uniquity. ‘Jetleg’ is a schizophrenic track that has three lives of its own, each one gradually intertwining into one clearer melodic vision towards the end. A little like jetlag recovery itself.
Re.You picks up the pieces with a sober march through dusty planes; a fear and loathing pensiveness sets the scene as American singer David Ennio Minor eases his range into the echoes with shimmers of Morrison in the mists. Cosmic gradual and wholly mesmerising, Re.You has delivered something magical here.
Next up: YOUNION resident and critically-noted new talent Florian Busse who lets rip with a purist tech trip through the ages as the incredible oscillating bassline grows in defiance, size and sound in a way that nods at the likes Agoria, Hacker, Kevin Saunderson or Tiefschwarz themselves. Devilishly simple but precision executed, Florian isn’t mucking around.
Tiefschwarz and Ruede complete the circle. A special bonus track, ‘Kalle Spring’ quivers and swoons over a rippling sinewy riff while otherworldly twangs and plucks shimmer organically with space jazz tendencies. Lean but ultimately widescreen and abyssal with a physical sensation when the spiralling synths tsunami into the scene. A fittingly unique ending to another exceptional release that is truly all about YOU.
