gucci mane gehört zu den einflussreichsten und charismatischsten rappern der letzten 10 jahre, wenn nicht sogar der gesamten hip hop-geschichte. der aus alabama stammende und in jugendjahren nach atlanta verzogene mc, hat sich in den vergangenen jahren durch unzählige mixtapes, features, filmrollen, seine probleme mit dem gesetz und nicht zuletzt mit seinem eiscreme-tattoo auf der wange zu einem kulturellen phänomen entwickelt. -mama s basement- führt den hörer zurück zu den anfängen seiner karriere und wurde erst letztes jahr, kurz vor der entlassung aus dem gefängnis, veröffentlicht. alle produktionen stammen vom legendären produzenten und langjährigen weggefährten zaytown. das vinyl erscheint in limitierter auflage als farbige, nummerierte 180g pressung.

auf departed glories gelingt dem norwegischen electronic-produzenten und ambient-guru geir jenssen alias biosphere eine eindringliche klangatmosphäre, die mit worten nicht zu erklären ist. die entrückten tracks erhalten ihre kontur durch den hintergrund, vor dem das album entstanden ist. das bild des covers ist vor mehr als hundert jahren von dem russischen fotografen sergei prokudin-gorsky, einem pionier der farbfotografie, aufgenommen worden. es zeigt eine armenische frau in einer landschaft, die heute zur türkei gehört. the crystal clear yet haunting atmosphere fascinated me, erklärt biosphere, was ausschlaggebend für die atmosphäre des albums war. hinzu kommt seine recherche während eines aufenthalts in polen, krakau: das psychologische trauma der mittelalterlichen königin bronislawa, die sich mit ein paar nonnen in den bäumen vor den tataren versteckte, bildet die inspirierende grundlage von departed glories. diese elemente und die hinzunahme einiger klangschnipsel ukrainischer und polnischer volksmusik formen den gespenstischen, in mark und bein übergehenden charakter des werkes.

released for the first time on vinyl is max richter’s emotive and minimal score to damon lindelof’s tv series about a post-apocalyptic global event where 2% of the world’s population disappears without explanation. richter’s approach explores the feelings of the protagonist’s family, the garveys, through intimate, small scale music. he tackles this psychological landscape by bringing a ritual quality to the score, while themes of departure and loss are represented by a sense of sonic decay, relying on the instrumentation of a few sustained tones on pianos, harps and celesta. max richter is a classically trained composer that defies boundaries. trained at the royal academy of music and finishing his studies under the tutelage of avant-garde composer luciano berio in florence, richter’s career has followed many paths. his musical output ranges from ballets (wayne macgregor’s infra), reinventions of classical works (vivaldi’s four seasons), collaborations with the future sound of london, roni size and vashti bunyan to writing scores for film and tv (waltz with bashir, lost and found, last days on mars) and solo work (memoryhouse, the blue notebooks, 24 postcards in full colour).
