2025 reissue - being pioneers with a new album created in no more than 6 months, the orb are bound to be exposed to fan expectations running high, while quizzical questions about little fluffy clouds and the good old times take over. it s especially jarring as the duo of accomplished soundsmiths alex paterson and thomas fehlmann has become known for its genre-bending curiosity and surprising sonic detours, exploring experimental soundscapes as well as club-friendly beats. the funny thing is, though, that whatever the context, you know a track from the orb when you hear it. case in point: cow / chill out, world!, their latest full-length offering - a masterful ambient album that branches out in many directions, but unmistakably sounds like the orb in either ear (and probably to your third ear, too).

we continue the orb’s sin in space remix ep series with a third volume focussing on the duo’s latest full-length, the highly acclaimed cow / chill out, world! (kompakt 354 cd 134). the spontaneous, organic vibe and sample artistry of the album is reflected in three distinct reworks from highly respected kompakt mainstays the field, dave dk and jÖrg burger - all of them informed with surprising twists and displaying a clear lineage to the source material. the field’s remix of 9 elms over river eno takes the original s percussive part and unfolds it to a swirling, tropical epic that alludes as much to the orb s multifaceted sound collages as it does to the hypnotic, looping flow of the field s own output. meanwhile, dave dk turns in a club-friendly revamp of 4am exhale with the fittingly titled accellerator mix, indulging in exquisitely lyrical glitches and the magic of the straight bassdrum. jÖrg burger takes a shot at the beatless 5th dimensions with the excellent dschungeloper mix - its loose pop jam feeling and flirty shuffle rhythm recall burger’s lush lounge core efforts under his triola monicker.

alex paterson’s longstanding electronic titans the orb present the new album ‘no sounds are out of bounds’, which as the title suggests finds them embracing an anything-goes new approach to creative freedom. refreshing and reinventing the predominantly two-man set up with thomas fehlmann on the prior two albums (‘moonbuilding 2703 ad’ and ‘cow / chill out world!’), ‘no sounds…’ is intentionally an ensemble piece, featuring a large cast of big names, cult heroes, rising talent and fresh newcomers. alex paterson, thomas fehlmann, youth, roger eno, hollie cook and guy pratt take star turns, as does heroic bassist jah wobble, who returns to the fold following the bassbin-bullying anthem ‘blue room’. additional supporting roles come from gaudi, roney fm and michael rendall, plus vocalists brother culture, mary pearce, emma gillespie, rianna, and andy cain – who’s best known for voicing mark ernestus and moritz von oswald’s deep house gems ‘i’m your brother’ and ‘a new day’. the double vinyl release includesd a download code.

the single will be released on the same day as the mix cd “the orb chronicles” (20 years shitkatapult) to celebrate the berlin label that debuted artists like t.raumschmiere, apparat or phon.o. the single carries catalogue number 165 and features the kick off mix-track on b-side and an exclusive club track by the orb on a side.

hart auf den fersen von moonbuilding 2703 ad remixes / sin in space pt. 1 (kompakt 336) erhält das pionierduo the orb nun eine fürstliche remix-behandlung von prins thomas: für alpine diskomiks / sin in space pt. 2 hat der norwegische disko-könig den track „alpine evening“ von the orbs aktuellem release alpine (kompakt 339) neu interpretiert und mit seiner typischen tanzflurmagie versehen – der psychedelische klopfer wandelt sich unter seiner hand zur gutgeölten, hochenergetischen tanzmaschine. es ist nicht das erste mal, dass prins thomas material von kompakt-künstlern in die mangel nimmt (man denke an seine exzellente arbeit mit justus köhncke und vermont), doch diese neufassungen zählen sicherlich zu seinen besten (und treibendsten) remixen bisher. der zentrale diskomiks erhält unterstützung durch zwei versionen auf der rückseite: das simpler tool for dj fools kratzt das streicherjucken, während der short yoga break die beats zur erweiterten atmosphärischen vertiefung ganz rausnimmt – eine perfekte manier um dieses release abzurunden.
