the berlin-based techno and house producer and dj oliver koletzki has fully committed himself to his roots for this album. they can be traced back to pop music of the 80ies and 90ies, while his productions still manage to transport the fresh energy of today’s electronic music productions. großstadtmärchen is a perfect example for a producers album: oliver koletzki has created a musically compact long player while working together with many different singers. both established artists like mieze katz from the german electro-pop outfit mia., the hot german pop-rock-singer axel bosse, critically acclaimed indie band kate mosh as well as newcomers such as fran, pyur and juli holz have contributed to the album. the result are ten songs that easily fluctuate between catchy pop tracks, modern house grooves and 80ies synthesizer pop yet still maintaining a very own koletzkieske sound dynamic. großstadtmärchen, which translates as the tale of the big city starts off with this is leisure. famous pop singer mieze katz has put down her sexy voice on a guitar-based song pattern that functions as an ideal introduction into the craziness of the big city tales. after hearing this, the listener is directly fully drawn into this world when hearing juli holzs softly whispering voice singing about the dilemmas of love in the big city on zuckerwatte (single release date: 7.9.09). this is a very fine electro-pop tune. coming up next oliver koletzki and axel bosse board an underground train that takes them around the berlin u-bahn system and back.

channeling the energy echoing off dancefloors along his path, reinier zonneveld has been on a steady slope rolling out dance igniting productions while touring an intricate live set. megacity servant, the artist’s third studio effort, stands as a coherent 16-piece techno outfit tinged with experimental tones while playfully deconstructing classic acid and disco fragments. coming from a classical music background, reiniers style of production ranges from cavernous powertracks to more concise trips subdued with melancholic piano-stemmed soundscapes, rounding up to a signature sound that is evident as it is enveloping. techno mainstay vocalist cari golden makes a notable appearance on things we might have said. having previously teamed up with sonorous names like pan pot, fur coat & coyu, goldens stellar vocals and skillful lyrics shine paired with zonneveld’s production prowess. the production-vox chemistry is instant, as the track mesmerizes from the get go. seizing attention for the full length of the track, the entire arrangement seduces the listener, making for a clamorous earworm. eht unveils a heavy-hitting resolution, as the artist layers on hefty polarizing synths. the cut boasts a powerful arrangement that is unsettling and playful at the same time, diving into dark techno realms. megacity servant makes use of the classic roland sh-101s ability to emit a nearly tridimensional sound ray, unfolding newer details with each listen. the relentless melody, padded with grave synth arrays, establishes a melancholic mood, gradually depicting the auditive struggle of its title-named character.

over the course of the past ten years, stil vor talent has striven to support emerging young artists, to continuously broaden and redefine its sound, and, ultimately, to create lasting memories, both on and off the dance floor. the dance floor is the place where we gather to leave the worries of our everyday lives behind, and, for those few moments, form a bond, which transcends the final track of the night. a bond between each other between the artist and the dancer, between ourselves and the music. on 10 years stil vor talent we celebrate this bond and say thank you.

the energy and versatility were used to when reinier zonneveld takes the decks is immediately evident in his latest ep. opening preceedings with sharp bust, a straight and to the point trancy bassline leads the way. decked by mechanic stabs and hi-hats, the groove is simply hypnotic and relentless. rushchamber, on the other hand, bears a subversive groove, with a minimal and dark bassline. glitchy cut up vocals give an eerie feel, as the whole atmosphere becomes more and more immersive by the way of multi-layered drums. the final offering, flatchat is anything but flat. its intricate groove shares the dark and immersive territory of the previous track, while another set of cut up vocals draw instant attention. a descending lead padded with reverb and stabby synths, the last track rounds up the release, ending on a grave and intense note.

iyewaye, oliver koletzkis first release after the autobiographical i am ok album, introduced a new facet of the artist’s sound. the ep catered to a darker and more raw aesthetic, a direction followed and deepened by the four remixes. first up is the title track iyewaye, turned into a lengthy tech infused introspection by hatzler. loosely centered around the initial vocals, loco & jams makeover explores the tracks captivating snappy narrative. the more rhythm focused ipuza gets a special treatment from hidden empire who dial up the aggression of the percussion. zakari & blange downplay the tracks initial exotic elements, focusing on the rattling synths and giving it a late-night dancefloor rework.

the third and final ep from the latest album of hvob is due for release on september 18. hvobs album trialog was released in spring this year and continues to attract unwavering international interest.

with iyewaye, the first solo-ep after the release of his fifth album i am ok last year, oliver koletzki shows himself in a new, but not altogether unfamiliar light: since his breakthrough in 2005 with der mückenschwarm koletzki hasnt sounded this hard. gone is the pop-angle, replaced by a dark sound-aesthetic and raw energy. but even here, in the techno realm, oliver koletzki demonstrates his inimitable sense for melody: thus, the gloomy and driving framework of iyewaye is lit up by a crystal-clear synth-sequence. similarly, ipuza, which hypnotizes by way of reduction and repetition, is funky in its core thanks to a rolling tribal groove. functional, but with heart and soul.
