für diesen soundtrack wurde der komponist nicholas britell sowohl bei den oscar-verleihungen als auch bei den golden globes nominiert. und mit der verleihung des oscars für den besten film, wurde der film auch dieses jahr in den deutschen kinos gezeigt. der film erzählt in drei kapiteln die geschichte eines jungen, homosexuellen, afroamerikanischen mannes.
zwar beauftragte regisseur barry jenks nicholas britell mit der produktion eines orchestralen scores, forderte ihn aber gleichzeitig dazu auf die produktions-technik des chopped & screwed (wie im hip hop oft genutzt) auf passagen anzuwenden, so dass ein ungewöhnliches soundbild entstand.
