max loderbauer, who has so far made consistently engaging contributions to the arjunamusic family, is back to lend his unique interpretive skills to the master recordings for the brightbird album by joão paulo esteves da silva, mário franco and samuel rohrer. loderbauer has set himself up for a challenge, since the original album’s completely improvised flow of small-ensemble, conversational jazz feels complete enough without outside intervention. however, loderbauer’s role as electronics operator in the similarly attuned ambiq trio has already shown that, through his mastery of tone color, he has a talent for teasing out the additional hidden details within an apparently ‘complete’ sonic environment. it’s a task he manages to accomplish without ever overriding or contradicting the cohesive message provided by his collaborators.

the rambo trilogy of films has defined the 1980s action cinema and retained a cult following. composer brian tyler’s thunderous score incorporates themes from jerry goldsmith’s previous work and has been hailed by rambo fans as an excellent continuation to the music of the series.
lil silva’s new ep sees him exploring love and meaning in his unique hybrid uk production idiom. less tied to the frenetic pace of his for club play only instrumentals, “jimi” sees him modulate through textures, in a meditative state of mind, traveling his inner visions and memories. silva’s vocals are weaved through tracks “the play”, “lines” and “struggle” while newcomer cosima contributes to the spine-tingling “caught up” and los angeleno singer kent jamz blesses the epic night time soul of “de ja”. the ep has received big support on radio from the likes of benji b, annie mac, four tet, gilles peterson and mistajam, with “de ja” being placed on the bbc 1xtra a list and “caught up” featuring on the rinse fm a list.
released for the first time on vinyl is max richter’s emotive and minimal score to damon lindelof’s tv series about a post-apocalyptic global event where 2% of the world’s population disappears without explanation. richter’s approach explores the feelings of the protagonist’s family, the garveys, through intimate, small scale music. he tackles this psychological landscape by bringing a ritual quality to the score, while themes of departure and loss are represented by a sense of sonic decay, relying on the instrumentation of a few sustained tones on pianos, harps and celesta. max richter is a classically trained composer that defies boundaries. trained at the royal academy of music and finishing his studies under the tutelage of avant-garde composer luciano berio in florence, richter’s career has followed many paths. his musical output ranges from ballets (wayne macgregor’s infra), reinventions of classical works (vivaldi’s four seasons), collaborations with the future sound of london, roni size and vashti bunyan to writing scores for film and tv (waltz with bashir, lost and found, last days on mars) and solo work (memoryhouse, the blue notebooks, 24 postcards in full colour).
lil silvas new 3-track release with good years is aimed strictly for club play. beginning with the surging energy of drumatic and followed by the silky electronics of new squeeze and the minimalistic swing of 606, it highlights the bedford producers uk grime roots together with timbaland-like idiosyncratic sonic ticks and afro-centric syncopation. all three tracks have received strong radio support from the likes gilles peterson, mary anne hobbs, toddla t, monki and benji b on bbc radio 1, 6music and 1xtra, as well as plays across rinse and kiss fm a release that further cements silvas reputation as one of the countries leading production lights.

lil silva returns to night slugs to drop the second installment in our new club constructions series.
cc is all about stripped-back, raw and highly functional tracks made specifically for the club. where l-vis 1990s first venture into the series presented a brutalist vision of house, silvas volume 2 represents the vital flip side to the concept: broken, grimey rhythm tracks.
on this white label, we bring together two of the best producers in the uk to give there perspective of the work of sbtrkt. the ratio of quality to quantity in the braiden repertoire is disproportionately weighted in favour of quality. his debut release >the alps<, on joy orbisons label doldrums, certified him as a meticulous detailed producer. if youve heard is rinse fm show, youll have enjoyed the intensity and breadth of his perspective. this musicological take on sbtrkts >pharaohs< recontextualises roses gabor afro-futuristic vocals line in a more genuinely space-age industrial club sphere. the darker edge to lil silva is just the baddest of all uk house producers. his uk funky background has sheltered him from the hype lauded upon the flavour of the month post-dubstep producers of his generation. as a result, hes continued to garner respect from all sides, from the garage scene to the tech house scene. his treatment of >living like i do< takes his mate samphas vocal and adds a jerk discord to an already tense and dramatic vocal performance. his trademark 2-note bassline presents itself with its usual menace, ensuring waistlines to react promptly.

following up on his ltd white label release in april, night slugs are proud to present night skanker, lil silvas iconic new ep.
the four melodic, synth-laden tracks are typically raw and grimey but also run deeper with a newfound luminescence. constructed from a robotic new sound palette, silvas tuff flange-funk drum programming and twisted carnival rhythms are permeated by razor-sharp neon synths, jacking cowbells, massive slabs of sub bass and even silvas own sampled vocals. these are industrial-size riddims for worldwide dancefloor demolition!
night slugs are extremely proud to announce a new addition to their roster in the form of the one and only lil silva! the young mastermind behind potent uk funky anthems such as seasons, funky flex, different and the funky pulse, lil silvas house-meets-grime style has become iconic of the ukf scene. his tracks are cornerstones for djs like marcus nasty, who describes them as having the unique ability to consistently bun down raves. with that in mind lil silvas addition to the night slugs family makes perfect sense. his contribution to their limited vinyl-only white label series is a taster of what can be expected from his official ep for ns, dropping later this year. in the mean time feast yourself on the ultra-upfront a million, featuring carnival synths, glass breaks and snare destruction in the typical silva fashion. on the flip, silva pays tribute to house pioneer kenny dope in the form of the ultra-stripped down bassline-driven banger no hooks. bruckout time!
