slam bring us the third chapter in their devestating paragraph series. following up their dancefloor destroyer. hot knives that was played by the biggest djs around and dubbed as one of carl craig s favourites of the last few months. the label s previous releases have already had big support from the rest of the techno fraternity. including legends richie hawtin. adam beyer. dubfire. anja schneider. len faki and francois kevorkian.
paragraph number 3 delivers some deep. bass-heavy electronic funk on the a-side. with one note samba . grooving from the off-set. the percussive elements of the track wind around a solid and heavy sub bass. introducing dubbed-out horns reminiscent of slam s freelance science days. hypnotic and tripped out. slam return to their house roots.
on the aa room 2 . dedicated to one of the world s best clubs. fabric. where slam hold a residency. keeps with the stripped-down. rhythmic and gritty sound of paragraph. whilst constantly fluctuating echoes and delays control the rhythm of the track. a swirling. yet straight to the point synth creates some frenzied and panic-inducing builds throughout. leading to a wholesome and satisfying ride cymbal. room 2 is a killer. peak-time track that will be sure to induce some serious convulsions on dance-floor.

der turnbeutel delivers its second release this year. as the protagonist of this release does. this time the turnbeutel will be filled by no less than one of germanys most famous djs: alle farben. having played almost every stage in germany he feels that 2012 has to bring some own stuff. too. the two tracks >roundabout< and >blue jester< feature his typical approach to music and will definitely delight every jester on the dancefloor. whether its round or round about quadrat. to complete the 4 track ep. our oliver schories put his >alle schwofen< (everybodys dancin) remix of >roundabout< on the vinyl and till krüger of (200 records) contributes a >alle ausziehen< (everbody strip to the buff!) remix of blue jester.
played by: richie hawtin. raresh. cisco ferreira (the advent). matt star. xpansul. nicolas duvoisin. mirco violi. frank leicher. sebastian altstadt. locke aka dermaptera. sean o neal (someone else). jon gurd ...
igor jadranin aka en-tropic signs his new ep – >between two extremes<. for the record label underground limited.this release clearly proves igors unmatched talent and maturity in music production. the lead theme of this ep >between two extremes< – a very deep and powerful theme. carefully broken by rhythm and still a gentle and emotional jazzy looped composition – is surely my personal favorite from this release.cooperation with marko vukovic is embodied in the track >back again< – a minimal deep house filled with rhythm. not the kind of rhythm produced by percussions and other drumming instruments but rather by a cut vocal and dirty synth. which breathe soul into this theme.
>zero loss circuit<. which has an expressed club spirit. is the ideal piece for building an atmosphere in a club. igors music definitively deserves a spot on every good djs list.

sometimes. a documentary maker is present at precisely the right moment to capture lightning in a bottle. it happened with dylan s don t look back. it happened with the decline of western civilization. and it happened with 1976 s heartworn highways. in the early 70s. as willie nelson let his hair grow long and brought together hippies and country music fans. a new country music world was developing. helmed by filmmaker james szalapski. heartworn highways is an iconic performance documentary that masterfully captures this magical slice of time through encounters with many of the true progenitors of the outlaw country scene.
new to the stay underground it pays gang. the eighth release on the label comes from none other than octo octa! you know him from his prolific run on 100% silk. and more recently for his ep on gerd jansons running back label at the top of the year. the man from brooklyn serves up 4 slices of that u.s. experimental house sound we love so much. on the a side. we have two versions of octo octa’s melancholic title track. requiem for the body. both as good as the other. it’s gonna be split for a lot of listeners on which is better. while both versions share certain elements. the second plays down the long keys of the first versions in favour of some stabby chord patterns. either way. proper 4 a.m. business!on the flip. we get a bit more ethereal with times two (loose version). simple yet effective. this one has a lot of atmosphere with those delayed vocal cuts over that late 80s bassline. closing out the record is when home. this one is a bit of a stomper at first until it brings in the lighter synth elements halfway through. someone. somewhere will have an epiphany listening to this track. if its you reading this. send in the results on the back of a postcard. all in all. another killer release that feels straight at home in the stay underground it pays catalogue

fleetwood mac is a band with many faces. in contrast to their poppy sound of the 70s. fleetwood mac actually started out in the sixties as a psychedelic blues band under guitarist peter greens lead.
pious bird of good omen was originally released in 1969 as a compilation of the bands bluesy roots: their first four uk singles and their b-sides and two tracks by bluesman eddie boyd with fleetwood mac backing. the albums sound is laidback. down & very dirty. featuring scorching cover versions of little willie johns >need your love so bad< and robert johnsons >i believe my time aint long<. the b-side features the international hit single >albatross< and peter greens composition >black magic woman<. the latter being popularized by santanas version in 1970. this album is a must-have for blues fans. anyone interested in the roots of fleetwood mac might discover they are essentially a totally different band than one might think.

recently. superpitcher was invited to go on a safari in south africa. he bought a custom made safari hat at his favorite milliner in cologne (jü..rgen eifler) and set off with big eyes and a pair of binoculars. it was wild and wonderful and he saw many exotic (and big!) animals. even a leopard in a tree that told him the secret of the universe. he forgot what the leopard said because his mind was still playing and replaying the sound of what he heard on the first night of his arrival – the hypnotic and moving sound of the voices of africa. the voices of the wonderful tanda tula staff choir. there. the choir members work during the day at the camp and at night entertain the guests with their captivating voices and energetic dancing. so impressed was he with their songs and beautiful shangaan language that he decided to record a cd for them to sell in the shop at their camp and now this precious recording is also available through hippie dance / bush recordings on vinyl and cd for you in whatever wherever camp you are. the lp of the tanda tula choir comes with a very pretty poster.

whilst not the first uk dance scene the mods had that covered – northern soul is the longest running. those northern clubbers who eschewed late 60s psychedelic fripperies for obscure old soul records with the requisite beat. couldnt have known what they started. after using up all the uk released sides they began digging in the united states and after nearly 50 years the northern soul scene has probably unearthed more great music than any other. all night long is our tribute to those pioneers and includes current in-demanders such as the sensations demanding man. classics by the chandlers and ernest mosley and a host of other dancefloor friendly masterpieces. all night long. can you feel that beat and extra added soul will be available on cd & double vinyl and are compiled by dj and award winning compiler dean rudland. with stunning artwork from his long-time collaborators the unknown. across the three volumes there are 60 tracks of soul. funk and boogie.
manchester native alex coulton has nurtured a reputation for creating sub-heavy rollers thanks to 12”s for the likes of black acre. livity sound and bloc. with gamma ray burst. the next in his series of releases on london low-end specialists tempa. coulton consolidates his sound to deliver some of the most sparse. rhythmic work of his career. with the record’s title track. coulton weaves from hard-hitting kicks. through to dizzying tribal polyrhythms the whole time maintaining a minimal. space driven atmosphere that remains omnipresent throughout the track’s most intense moments. ‘ground zero’ revels in its spaciousness. allowing reverb to flood into the negative space between flashes of heavyweight techno percussion and saturated ripples of synth while the pulsating kicks that underpin ‘alpha decay’ are punctuated with bleak. discordant bells. rhythmic bass hits and hypnotic filtered percussion. showing his diverse abilities. ‘phase two’ is an exercise in measured restraint. as a cacophony of clicks and hisses come together to disorientate before forming a driving rhythm section before coulton maximises his expansive elements on the fog-tinged ‘ascent’. closing with the steady flowing. brighter-hued melodic work of ‘distant resonance’. alex coulton has created a masterful collection of experimental tech-focused electronica that bewilders. intrigues and will draw the listener in with each play.

derrick morgan ia one of the greats of jamaican music. he is the undisputed king of ska. but his recording career did not stop in 1967 when the sound of ska slowed down into rocksteady. nor did it stop in 1968 when rocksteady evolved into the early sound of reggae. the set you have here was first released in 1974 when reggae was king. the album carried the name “in the mood” - but also had the working title “this is derrick morgan”. a title in the world of reggae carrying the moniker would normally be used to introduce new singer and be his showcase album. in this case in could be used to reintroduce the singer derrick morgan to the new reggae sound. but we feel someone of derrick’s calibre needs no introduction as his voice works on any rhythms put his way. so sit back and enjoy one of the greats of jamaican music showing the world with the help of producer bunny lee that he can roll with the reggae sound.
