high-energy, rowdy, raucous, longhair mississippi glam rock. that’s the sound of easy, the week’s long-awaited followup to their breakthrough album, dear bo jackson. recorded at ardent studios in memphis, easy finds the weeks doubling down on a mix of groove, grit, and guitars. it’s swaggering and sharply-focused, shining new light on a band of brothers who, although still in their mid-20s, have already logged a decade’s worth of sweaty gigs together. easy consolidates the band’s strengths, it’s driving and direct, captured in punchy sound by producer paul ebersold. “we called it easy because every time i make music with these guys, it’s easy,” says cain, who has spent more than a third of his life as a member of the weeks. “but the other side of it is, there’s nothing easy about being in a band... we have the easiest job on the planet. but it works for us.”

the pathway traxx journey continues! following the storming success of the killer pt06 from dj w!ld we welcome a stomping, home grown, 4 track ep from the pathway label owner niko maxen. this ep has been over 3 years in the making, since the early days of pt01 when niko produced the original tracks for the label. it has been an intention to follow that release with a solo ep, and that time has now come. true to form, niko’s ep delivers a hard dose of raw house, seductive vocals, slamming kick drums, and skippy hats.
2017 is set to be a big year for niko as he lines us several big releases and another 4 track vinyl ep all in the early half of the year. it seems now is the perfect time for this in-form artist to come out from the shadows and into the limelight.
with our own record label, ran from the legendary mary go wild basement in amsterdam, we will focus on connecting like-minded artists. expect quality techno and acid productions only. dutch national heroes will be teaming up with international pioneers to create instant classics that will stand out. welcome to mary go wild! (rod remix) after tearing apart the mary go wild basement last year, gregor tresher returned to amsterdam for the worldwide release of his new quiet distortion album on vinyl. he left us with a track that needs to be heard. we got him in touch with another basement legend, benny rodrigues, who obviously didn’t hesitate to join in and make the remix under his rod malmok techno alter ego.
following on from radio slaves vision that landed earlier on in the year, rekids assembles three colossal remixes from rodhad, obscure shape & shdw and johannes heil. rodhads remix leads the package with tantalising synths, filtered effects and stuttering percussion that together assist in generating an impending tension. on the flip, obscure shape & shdw immediately drop cavernous kicks before the originals distinguishable pads brighten up an otherwise dark and sinister aesthetic. tying up the package, johannes heils ethereal rendition echoes throughout providing a deep and mesmerising conclusion.
after a run of releases including music from rex club residents d julz and phil weeks, and a beautiful atlantic breakaway with fred p, rex club music brings in the boss of poker flat recordings, the maestro himself, steve bug. a gentleman and a scholar who has been a key figure of the techno scene since its very early days, steve bug is also the mastermind behind a prolific and in demand label. he is a man who is always on point, looking to the future, maintaining the present and drawing on the past to operate in that magical intersection between the different eras of time.indulge in this short course of rexology for proof of his mastery, which is expertly applied with this polished new ep.first up we have ‘what’s happened’, a track that occupies the space between tech house, acid and dub. get ready for some hard stepping on the dance floor when this track is unleashed. then rod goes in hard with two remixes of ‘what’s happened’, upping the ante, increasing the tempo and urgency to create an air of emergency. with ‘remix one’ rod has us on high alert, while ‘remix two’ focuses a little more on the groove and catchy analogue flashes. on the flip we have a night of ‘berlinian rexing’, with its time-lapse atmosphere allowing us to teleport between berlin and paris in a cacophony of whirring synths and uplifting stabs. the track plays on timelessness, creating classic tropes and creating the kind of atmosphere that underpins all of the most unforgettable nights.
incl. rod rmx! the spanish producer s label debut is another prime example of format s steady and stripped-down techno sound, which is built on hard knocking grooves and industrial twists for the darkest of clubs.
rod, aka respected long-term dutch activist benny rodrigues, hands in another burning 4 track ep for figure spc. as the series approaches the zenith of its 26 chapter a-z journey, the quality shows no sign of dropping, with rods crisp and characterful techno trips inspired by classic minimalist traditions. over four, bleep infused, tracky and positively charged cuts, rod opens the doors for us into his latest hardware-driven studio sessions. each track is a carefully carved snapshot, a different specific moment for the floor, the producers talent for creating elegant moments of tense and playful techno is clear to hear.
another killer single by label boss marco bailey incl. remixes by rod and raphael dincsoy!marco bailey while still continuing until the day after eternity his unstoppable good form, he gets back to his over-prolific imprint mbr limited with another killer single titled pere lechaise. on the remix sides of the record, we are more than pleased to welcome rod with 2 incredible reworks, signature of his intelligent sound, and last but not least from stuttgarts heavyweight raphael dincsoy.
rod 2nd ep on clr features 2 tracks that displays a style and approach he has not done before. hkh touches the more peak time side of things, but by infusing some deep pads it creates a slightly more detroit edge overall. usually, i try to build my tracks around as minimum sounds as possible, but in this case all these lead sounds just made sense to me, says rod. the second track ght sees rod experimenting at a late trippy night and just flowing it out. this might be one of the weirdest tracks i have made so far. it reminds me its always a good thing to search and experiment when your usual way of doing things doesnt inspire you anymore
2015 repress. vinyl only! strong limited edition! pushmaster discs is proud to welcome ilario alicante. after the lasts two releases on >sudden drop< and >alphahouse<, he comes up with a solid ep including two original tracks plus two stunning remixes from rod and markus suckut. mastered and cut by helmut erler (dubplates & mastering, berlin).
rod needs no introduction as the prolific alter ego of a certain dutch producer already well associated with figure. here we are treated to 3 new rod cuts, precisely aimed at the dancefloor, plus a special len faki remix to crown the package. label curator len faki offers up his take on >truck one< in a storming, action-packed ride, building on rods sparse palette of sound-design rumbles, and creates a straight up modern techno roller that refuses to be shy!
summer is blooming and we have the first release on drumcode limited. drumcode limited was created to bring an offshoot of special tracks focusing on exceptional music. keeping tracks on a vinyl-only format also gives the music that special collectors quality and a sound synonymous with audiophiles. past releases come from adam beyer, alan fitzpatrick, tom demac & glimpse, ben sims, petter b and nihad tule & bauri.
following his well received fabric mix comp in december 2013, ben sims returns to his own theory imprint with yet another ring release in the form of *reflection*, which features two original new tracks, a remix from rod and a vinyl exclusive. the eponymous opener is a strident, 909 + 707 driven affair that fuses overlapping, stereoscopic tones to a gently distorted and brutalist groove that sits somewhere between dance mania and detroit. *break glass* is the second original on offer and has been a heavily requested track for the past few months. the perfect partner to *reflection*, *break glass* is similarly overdriven but heavy on the sort of mechanical funk that sims does so well. rods version of *reflection* is a linear assault which ebbs and ows with purpose throughout a linear and intense arrangement while sims remix of *break glass* zeros in on bone rattling percussive aesthetics and vox samples, in much demand after featuring on his fabric mix cd.

a friend of ours wrote a magazine article a couple of years ago saying that the one good thing about the credit crunch was that it would give the warehouse party scene a boost. for some reason that hasnt quite happened yet - but we refuse to give up hope.
