shape-shifting post-punk quasi-legends bourbonese qualk are finally getting a bit of the shine they so richly deserve after years in obscurity, not least thanks to the retrospective compilation on mannequin back in 2015. now platform 23 are reissuing their classic album -laughing afternoon, originally released back in 1983 and having lost none of its impact. its a slippery, shape-shifting creation that veers between uneasy soundscapes and gutter-dwelling funk, with some truly visionary signal processing, electronic textures and more besides in the mix. its a crime this crew arent held in the same regard as their other early 80s post-industrial peers, but at least the wrongs are being righted now.
excellent first installment of archival material from former psychick warriors ov gaias robbert heijnen, platform 23 return with another four stunning digs from the vaults that further flesh out the mysterious allure of this singular artist and his peak early 90s era
platform 23 presents the 2nd collection of songs selected from the alternative funk series released vox man and vp 231 records. originally appearing in 1985 across 1 vinyl and 2 cassette albums these cult collections have long been in collectors (and bootleggers) sights and finally see the first official reissue. as with volume 1 (pla023) the series covers the weird, wonderful, esoteric, exotic and quirky sound and puts them in a reset context that immediately gives clarity of the originals curation.
nice price deal !!! once more a great four tracker on luetzenkirchen’s label platform b. again with two peaktime tunes by the labelbos himself plus a great deephouse track by his mate tonio barrientos from munich. lutzenkirches new swedish discovery johan afterglow adds a dark and slamming techno track.
since its 2000 release this influential record, which heralded the return of alternative hip-hop, has never seen a vinyl reissue. with that, get on down-always on top of giving the greatest hip-hop albums their due-is proud to present this re-release of the platform. the rhymes are still fresh, the production is still pristine, and the album is now back on vinyl for the first time in 17 years.

the platform label returns with a smash and grab release by paul mac. he has been very busy over the last few years producing a high volume of quality material for labels like ingoma, sino and jericho to name but a few. here we have a big room sounding 2 tracker with the a side starting with its funky bass heavy intro and dark string vibe before the mid break and clever vocal sample kick in and the track then goes of with its synth stabs and pads again. on the flip there is a old school detroit influenced roller with its swirling analogue synths and percussion
this is an high class - release in a new partnership between established uk techno producer and the new up and coming oscar charlie. the tracks are very detroit influenced but have a very energetic uk feel. the tracks are getting great dj response with carl cox calling the record
a dusty tape of six tracks unearthed beneath the pinkman broken dreams division. nothing is known about this unnameable artist apart from his sound. a legion of hiss marches across the cassette, a blighted beat bites into lancing synthlines that bellow and writhe in their pitiful attempt to escape. strings are left to howl in turmoil in tracks born out of a crude joke and wry smile. mick wills offers no condolences, the stuttgart man lashing away any humanity with his embittered edit. found in the pit, made for the pit. *** digital download code included ***
gecko is the pseudonym for the super hard working jorg henze, who has released many quality records over the last 6 months. this is perhaps the best of them and is a 2 tracker full of quality. the tracks are forward thinking hard techno with the a side having searing analogue riffs and a driving feel with the flip having a much grungier feel with its twisted spacey percussion. all in all this is a great hard techno release that is sounding fresh
“the final sickness”, originally released in 1993, is another the mover masterpiece and its ten tracks transmit a crunchy thick and cold tone. edging to a rather industrial side of the techno spectrum, the pcp-spirit is carried throughout the release. every piece plunges to the bottom of darkest depths without remorse, leaving no space for the mild-mannered music lover. an eerie blend of hefty, yet intellectual 909 beats and chewy analog synths unite this collection of gems. haunting sequences, spooky effects and tough drums create an extraordinary venture for your deepest senses! if you’ve been into productions by the mover and planet core productions, you may just experience the pinnacle of his intensity with the final sickness. it can’t get more pcp than that!
yogg is part of the parallax label crew and hails from tel-aviv. his techno turns your mind inside out with its long and hypotonic grooves. then comes distant echoes, another techno innovator who has landed on rodhads dystopian and the out-er label with this dark, bleak sounds.

on ep5, legendary german musician burnt friedman makes his dekmantel records debut with ‘monsun’. the berlin based artist, who built a reputation for himself through his explorations into obscure, finely-tuned, experimental dub through his label nonplace, alongside his collaborative relationship with the late can drummer jaki liebezeit, is one of the crucial, sonic manipulators of our time. ‘monsun’ finds friedman crafting flowing, percussive, dub techno that is both esoteric, and progressive. befitting of a dekmantel release. alongside friedman sits legendary detroit act ectomorph, aka. bmg & erika, also making their dekmantel inauguration, with a record that surmises’ the group’s anologue, style of motor city beats
