ganze vier jahre nach *gemini* meldet sich jack tatum, der in brooklyn lebende kopf hinter wild nothing, mit einem neuen studioalbum zurück. für *life of pause* hatte tatum das große bedürfnis die genre-grenzen zu sprengen und sich klangtechnisch neu zu definieren. nach einer langen phase des schreibens und experimentierens nahm tatum das neue material schließlich in los angeles und stockholm auf - zusammen mit produzent thom monahan (devendra banhart, beachwood sparks). die neuen stücke platzieren wild nothing inmitten des popzirkus: euphorisch-mitreißende popmelodien treffen auf epische arrangements, und es ist mitunter unmöglich, sich für einen lieblingssong zu entscheiden, wenn diese platte so viele davon bietet.

on >pause< a rich, analogue lead line underpins the whole groove, slowly evolving, flitting between octaves and driving the track forward. at only 122bpm there is real feeling of space, allowing the carefully balanced drums and highly detailed percussive loops to add urgency and detail. soulful yet haunting chords are worked into the arrangement, intertwining with the lead line to reach a sweaty, euphoric peak. isolée deconstructs wills chords, initially only using two from the full sequence, allowing him the musical freedom to switch effortlessly from lush melodic pads to acid laced stabs. isolees unparalleled attention to detail creates a slow burning and truly hypnotic deep house groove that is as much for the head as it is for the feet
