a-ton is proud to announce panama / suez, the first ep by trio oren ambarchi, konrad sprenger and phillip sollmann (aka efdemin). the three multi-instrumentalists collaborated with the goal of creating subtly shifting musical passageways: sonic routes that run between continents of musical category. the results are two variations of kraut-y, groove-based post-techno that unfurl through mutating polyrhythms and chiming, ethereal guitar play – a rare moment of guitar and techno in deep embrace. with a potential to sustain energy on experimental dancefloors, panama / suez lives from ambarchi, sprenger and sollmann’s diverse input while reflecting a common penchant for both pop and the hypnotic.

this album -sesiones de panamá- was born from a live session in janeiros studio, and that freeform live attitude is clearly evident in the resulting music. throughout the six long tracks of the album, the trio build up progressive atmospheric pieces of genre-defying instrumental music that sits comfortably on rhythmic patterns reminiscent of house.

a classically trained pianist from the age of six, jarrah mccleary grew up in the sticky heat of the northern territory, australia. his previous project, the dirty secrets saw the band working between australia and london with iconic producer and engineer, nick terry (klaxons, libertines). after working on ideas for a new record for over two years, in early 2011, mccleary declared a new album and boarded the airplane, bound for los angeles. between splashes of yacht rock, trop-pop and nods to peter gabriel (thanks to the iconic 80s yamaha dx7 synth), a short summer experience in the city where dreams are made lead to tracks tinged with hints of hopeful house music strewn with the sleaziness of venice beach and too much free poured tequila. and so, panama was born. magic is a modern summer anthem. and what better way to celebrate the party season than some bonus remix action by the worlds most avid dance enthusiasts? the sydney-based quartet join forces with dfa heavyweights and panama fans, midnight magic and gavin russom (the crystal ark) on remixing duties for their debut release.

volume 3 showcases more of the unique tropical music created in panama in the fertile decades of the 1960s and 70s. panama is the thin, tropical bridge that connects north and south america, and is home to three million culturally diverse people, its music is a soulful blend of latin american, caribbean, european and indigenous forms. from bilingual calypsos to guajira jazz, from tropical guarachas to cumbia tamboreras, panamanian musicians fearlessly combined and brilliantly executed styles that reflected their multicultural environment during a turbulent time in the young countrys history. this collection presents more of the golden age of panamanian music and the music of the combos nacionales on rare recordings that have never been released outside the isthmus until now.

'castro boy' is a really warped take on frank zappa's classic 'valley girl' (on the lp 'ship arriving too late to save a drowning witch'). a seriously hard edged disco/hi-nrg tune with some very x-rated lyrics. so you thought lcd soundsystem is cool and all.. well check out this one... note that this record can be shocking for some people
