growing up in metro-detroit, and having recently played on the made in detroit stage at this years movement festival, you would have a fair idea of what to expect from appian. indeed, the influence of the motor citys signature sound on much of the burgeoning talents output is unmistakable. yet appians forthcoming release *chatter ep* on fina records is a testament to his varied and experimental production style, a distinctive sound borne out of inspirations as varied as funk, experimental electronica, disco, 80s stuff, early house, and aphex twin
there is beauty to be found in the barren streets of detroit. but they also hold an unexpected danger. solitude can sometimes make you feel like youre on another planet alien soundscapes and stark sound shape lonely beats on these lonely streets.
summertime has passed and so has the time for relaxing. autumnal vibes and serious atmospheres are back and throne of bloods latest fits right in. marking the imprints very first collaboration with another imprint, the throne of black catalogue ep sees nyc mainstay pixelife (lets play house, horn wax) dropping two new originals alongside brand new jams from australias carter brothers (black catalogue, defected) and black catalogue mainman monty luke(mothership, planet e, black catalogue)

detroits monty luke delivers full flavor musics seventeenth release, the bomb on bomb ep. other than being carl craigs right-hand man at planet e communications, monty luke has been building quite the reputation lately with solid releases on labels like planet e, mothership, and his own black catalogue imprint. the bomb on bomb ep consists of three originals that cross the boundaries from acid house to funky techno to four-on-the-floor downtempo. >in love with a dancer< is the eps total driver, with meaty synth stabs, teasing builds, and cleverly processed vocal treatments that scatter though the mix. >bomb on bomb< is a sly combination of classic-sounding acid house keys, pulsating rhythms, and a soulful vocal going on about a sexy lady. >13th city stranger< is a sleek, downtempo house track and one of the first things monty recorded after moving to detroit from san francisco. solid stuff all around from monty luke and full flavor music.

2009 has seen a slew of new detroit producers in what is turning out to be a stunning year of activity for the citys dance music. as the area experiences another test of its collective mettle, these musicians have emerged with some fresh insights. its detroits new wave, and its happening at a time when everyone wants to know whats really going on in the 313. as always planet e is on this wave with monty luke. following up releases on claude von strokes mothership music label, luke transplanted from california to detroit, shunning grace for grit and delivers his first offering for planet e, >art, love & war.< the labels first release since the 69 box set, >art, love & war< matches deep, stark piano stabs with sharp expansive drum hits, its upfront, its beat-driven, its for the dancefloor. the fantastic carl craig remix on the flip throws jagged edges of the original around in unexpected ways, its the first c2 remix on planet e since his epic remake of martin buttrichs >stoned autopilot<
after a some big remixes and a nice original outing this summer on get physical, catz n dogz return back to their home label. this time the guys team up with their friend, the hot producer, pol_on while also featuring the candid vocals of fellow mothershipper , monty luke. this is a great single to check out as we wait for their new 2nd album for mothership due out in the spring of 2010. the sexy analog sound of the original mix will fit well within any proper house set, but i particularly prefer the drama queen mix which breaks into a beautiful melodic section 3 quarters of the way through. groovy.
two of san franciscos hottest djs, monty luke and tasho bring us their very first release, a low down paranoid techno groove to keep you biting your nails and shaking your ass. todd bodine (tresor, highgrade, immigrant) rocks the remix adding the necessary bumpy tweaks and hot precision to make a great track even more freaky

gabriel andruzzi, multi-instrumentalist and core member of dfas beloved the rapture, debuts his solo moniker dj druzz vs. omega mus on his own throne of blood imprint. designed for maximum dancefloor impact, >apeman< reveals new shades of primal funkiness hitherto unexplored by man... the title track thumps along with a swagger in its step, while tambourines, deep toms and simian grunts rattle and shake into rhythmic abandon. meanwhile, audacious, finely-detuned synth acrobatics form the backbone of the track and evoke a sense of careening blindly through the jungle canopy.
!! vinyl only release , 300 copies only !! > modern underground music< is a collection of tracks culled from many corners of the underground. hopefully the first in a series. i want to feature a cross-section of genres, with a slew of new artists you might not be familiar with. i guess i could go the easy route and sign tracks from c2, cvs, etc. but thats not really what b/c is about
expect me tells the story of the tough life as an outsider, how lonely he felt as a kid, how he grew up and managed his life against all odds and developed his uniqueness. the tracks mirrors the up and down feelings of despair on the one hand and confidence & trust on the other hand. driving deep into the subconscious, the music of klartraum (soma records, lucidflow) envelopes and surrounds its listeners creating a world in which just like a dream, things are never as they seem. nadja lind and helmut ebritsch (hatikvah) as a studio double duo and burgeoning live act they are bringing an entirely unique edge to their performance and output by taking their flowing techno to a deeper, spiritual level. monty luke from planet e create an atmospheric and emotional remix, oriented on deep happenings and narrowed grooves. detroit influenced and very unique…. a resonant story full of sentiments. einklang freier frequenzens remix comes around with massive chords and deep sub frequency, introducing analogue filtersystems and synthesizers. hear and feel the life of the machinery. listen and feel good!
