an object resists changing its state of motion with inertia. what pushes back must then be even more vigorous in order to create a uid movement. an example of the force that embodies this dynamic can be found clearly on the appropriately titled inertia, aiken’s much anticipated return to chronicle. the spanish artist has been spending years honing his craft, focusing on sharp, distinct sounds that create a pure sense of kinetic energy. the title track of the ep bolsters a erce disarray of carefully (de)constructed atonal synthwork and a rhythm section that is set to detonate. it is then followed by “axial”, a track that stays as true to modular miscalculations as it does to stripped down techno, combining both in a subliminal cessation of sanity. however aiken isn’t done there. he continues with “magnetism”, which throws a brick in the glass of conventionality with its earth-shaking layers of textured momentum. phased pads then wash over “soul drama”, bringing the entire experience to an emotionally laced denouement. after the potency of his last record on chronicle as well as his releases on imprints such as his own label timeline and the spanish powerhouse semantica, inertia marks a de nitive step forward for an already exceptionally de ned artist.

four modern techno tracks on this first release of an ann aimee compliation series. the first of 4x4 vinyl releases from the ann aimee compilation, inertia, this opening volume includes cuts from time to express chief peter van hoesen and fachwerks roman lindau as well as fellow label recruits delta funktionen and sawlin. all four new and exclusive tracks deal in techno urgency. delta funktionen goes deep and dramatic, peter van hoesen offers up his usual dub-wise textures, whilst lindau pairs icy hi-hats with a heavy stomping beat. sawlin offers the trippiest techno with his delightfully dishevelled >excipidial< and closes out what is an essential piece of vinyl.

as well as manning his own label duro, theus mago can be found slinging out heat on turbo, kill the dj and more recently ombra. the mexican producer returns to home turf for his latest transmission, serving up one original track with two killer remixes. -inertials- is a rowdy beast in its original form, tapping up a breakbeat roll, dirty wave synth stabs and plenty more sonic debris for a cut that spans a whole lot of styles and makes them gel together seamlessly. inigo vontier takes the original and makes it into a bone-rattling drum track to batter the crowd into submission very late on in the dance. jamie paton takes a different approach on the b-side, weaving a little tenderness into the mix with some elegant synth lines that offset the raw bite of the drums beautifully.

delsin records inertia series is back with a powerful four tracker from yan cook. the producer from ukraine has also released delsin s main label and associated ann aimee, as well as planet rhythm and cooked. he makes straight up techno that arrests your attention and does just that again here. toucan is first and is a spangled, underwater techno track with gurgling lines wrapping round shuffling percussion and insistent drums. it s one to get into your head, while puffin is more physical, with more warped synths and paddy drums woven together into a fluid, rippling groove that never lets up. the drums on dialogue are deep and land with real resonance while dubby chords rattling out to the horizon. last of all flamingo is the most manic of the lot, with hi speed synths and booming drums all coming together to make for powerful, sub shaking and room filling techno madness.

delsin s dance floor focussed inertia series taps up berlin based producer bnjmn for his droid ep. it s a whirring fusion of wild synths and thumping drums. it s tough and direct and, as ever, is filled with unusual sounds and textures. remixes on the flipside come from cassegrain and inland.

the inertia sub-arm of dutch label delsin is back. after a series of 4 eps back in 2012, followed by a mix compilation by delta funktionen, inertia-5 introduces discrete circuit with a fierce three track ep that follows up previous releases on dvs1s mistress recordings.
