repress 2021 - after seven albums and almost two decades of blessing us discerning musical folk with the very best in disco and house that the uk has to offer, the stars have aligned and crazy p has collided with classic in the outer hemispheres of sonic glory. truelight ep demonstrates fully the unique and superior disco/house hybrid sound that has carved crazy ps legend into the bedrock of both those beloved genres. one true light provides cosmic clusters of subtle beats that sparkle and shimmer, with plenty of that well-versed groove that seems so effortless to the crazy p crew.in my hands follows some darker twists with a haunting crunching bassline and organ stabs. topping it all off are remixes of both tracks, one by crazy p member hot toddy aka chris todd, drawing on that memorable snaking bottom line and amping up the production with echoes of donna summer seduction. keeping it firmly within the camp, co-founder ron basejam remixes one true light, taking the tempo down to create lush, psychedelic soundscapes. theres no doubt, crazy p are stronger and more relevant than ever.
wonder why is the highlight from llorca s greatly overlooked the garden album on membran records. with its curtis mayfield inspired vocals, live strings and 70 s guitars, it has all the ingredients of a classic song. who better to ask as a remixer than hot toddy from crazy p. he raised the tempo and energy and really made it his own. on the b-side, 2 edits of the original track from fred everything, using only the original stems, working the effects and sonics as well as extending the track both in original and instrumental forms.
croatian producer ilija rudman returns to classic with his funk-drenched ‘lovers change minds’. well-known for his distinctive analogue-disco sound, the record’s delivery on 12” vinyl comes as a perfect pairing. he remains reverent to his well-rounded retro style with heavily filtered soft vocals complimented by a deep 70s-centric bassline. hot toddy’s bass-focused mixes come laden with electric guitar riffs and synth flares for an even slicker groove on ilija’s smoothly minimalist masterpiece.
chances are if you have a body, a pair of ears and access to some kind of listening device, you’ve at least tapped a foot to ‘shine’ from soul clap and nona hendryx. pure authenticity and vocal integrity is provided in bucket loads by nona (ex-labelle member and purveyor of funk for more than 40 years), while the production maintains soul clap’s sublime freshness. increasing your marimba intake by 200% with two additional versions, hot toddy gives exotic plushness with a diversified rhythm section and melodic bottom lines that lightly entwine, shimmering in the light of nonas voice. scott grooves brings the funk, with an upfront bassline and extra jb-style horns on his horns dub, while the deepah dub takes a housier approach while still keeping the horn stabs. scott finishes off with an echopella of nonas vocals recorded from the international space station. this remix package is everything you would want, and then some.

a year after the initial digital release heres the long awaited nugget for all the vinyl lovers: d-pulse >velocity of love< with the new richer sound and the additional vinyl-only remixes. after a lot has been said about the original track and hot toddys mix (which was recently licensed for the ministry of sounds >late night sessions< compilation) these two new remixes resting on the side b are definitely worth to be mentioned. mario basanov (hailing from lithuania) really surprised us all with his musical thinking and a fresh point of view on the original track and also - by finishing such a quality mix in only 3 (!) days. the second mix that finishes off the ep was done by the new name from izhevsk - andrew starodumov aka eclectic sound (previously featured on our >obscured by the machines< compilation). his mix is a nice background for coastal chilling under the soft evening sunbeams. enjoy
this latest lovebirds ep on winding road records is another absolute masterpiece of chilled house soul and deep rave. a really excellent package and a must-have lovebirds release. on the a-side track, >want you in my soul<, lovebirds teams up with vocalist stee downes. stees acclaimed debut album >all in a day< was released on sonar kollektiv in 2008, and who has worked and performed alongside the likes of motor city drum ensemble, amp fiddler, dj spinna, and bugz in the attic. their collaboration for winding road is a driving vocal house bomb that will rock your world. the b-side kicks off with the dirty tech tune >give me a dubf*ck<, an injection of dark rave that has been causing serious explosions on dancefloors for a few months now. perfect chemical material for the harder floors. the b2 track is hot toddys remix of >want you in my soul< - a chrome-plated disco dimension to the track by crazy p man chris todd, which was licensed to tensnakes >in the house< compilation before it even saw the light of day. hot stuff indeed.

mind trip (a1) is an unstoppable futuristic disco monster which gets the ladies shaking their handbags every time, and the geezers raising their pints and howling at the moon. still, they generally do that anyway ?but i cannot help myself: the sound reminds me extremly on my first disco parties in the first half of the 80ies...last but not least: mr toddy = a half of crazy penis...
