relaxers fifth ep is the final edition in the self titled series that began in early 2016. th six tracks are split between viscous, serpentine techno and liminal, dubbed out beatless passages. my reminiscence opens with a shivering groove and a terror-soaked atmosphere before giving way to the more monolithic wormholing of headache. stevie and blister pack drift further afield from the dancefloor, rippling and reforming. each side is closed out with a brief passage: empty promises and health is wealth are evocative and fleeting snapshots.
following a live debut at berghain and standout shows at de school and institut fuer zukunft, daniel martin-mccormick returns as relaxer with the fourth installment in the projects eponymous ep series. jamie lee takes over the a-side harrowing screams are framed by strobing chords and a deadly groove. simultaneously euphoric, agonizing and cathartic, jamie lee was written as the climax of relaxers live set and is a prime example of the artists uniquely feral techno. drawing equally on punk confrontations and more haunting emotional explorations, jamie lee is a lacerating and visceral descent. on the b-side, unwind oozes from the speakers, a miasmic cut that builds on the white knuckle tension of jamie lee. a lone synth figure worms its way through pulsating 3d drones, shimmering dissonances and hiccuping drums, rocking out into a quasi catatonic infinity. finally regime change gently floats on the surface of a trash-filled sea, a fading, smog choked reverie.

over the last year, daniel martin-mccormick has been exploring new terrain as relaxer, releasing a series of eps on the project s eponymous label. the third installment follows the paranoid whispers and mossy drip of the first two, yet is the most direct so far. “forming” and “forming (version)” offer distinct takes on a simple rhythmic motif, the first reaching for the heavens, and the b2 “version” sinking into hell. both develop gradually, drawing in the dance floor before unleashing, the a-side’s yearning strings and thunderclaps overflow with emotion, while “version” is a vortex of ever-escalating, dark intensity. in between is “monday,” a teeming environment with a deep bass throb, pounding drums, and shimmering percolating melodies.
relaxer returns with the second installment on their eponymous label. heavy, virulent and filled with longing, relaxer draws us further into the artist’s fascinating & unique world. side a’s “hissing flora” unspools organically over ten minutes, its melodic tendrils wrapping around a corroded vocal atop a heaving low end. on side b, “weekend” drifts through a beatless mist, with flickers of venomous voices and crumpling synths that shine through drawn shades. “climate of fear” snaps the listener out their uneasy rest with stomping percussion, overflowing arpeggiations and keening harmonies.
damien lynch enjoys countryside a drive in the twilight hour. this is his second offering for the esp institute. on side a, brunette opens with a straight-ahead techno thump of hi-hats and a pulsating 16th-note bassline—a subtle playing field composed solely with a rare 1970’s italian machine, the godwin drummaker 32, unearthed from the secret back room of a music shop in rural ireland where it hid among wonderful vintage russian synths and oddball electronics. this elegant track drips with warm and phasing pads, gentle staccato keys and beautifully simple arpeggios that blur every now and then—all affirming damien’s less-is-more ideology. with side b’s forced relax, damien continues to exercise his restraint, arranging his instruments in a band-like fashion, affording each player the sonic space to project their individual qualities whilst supporting an overall dialogue. there is a soft ebb and flow to every machine’s role, whether the swelling of bass or the interplay of percussive keys, but when these characters arrive in one place, the result is a tranquil euphoria. these two songs will accept you for who you truly are.
four tracks of hissing, hypnotic paranoia emerge on the debut from relaxer. on the a side, smeared whispers seethe across viscous grooves that pulse with strange, bittersweet strings. side b’s recoil delivers a stomping 137-bpm techno bomb with an elevator-shaft-freefall. the ep dissolves into glowing pathos on the closing track.
you gotta jump on this tune. there is no denying the driving bass line that drags your body into the sound. being the moving power, this solid bass-plate gets built up and down by bright highlights and jumping tunes. a little fatalistic roaring, some swirl here and there, yet every sound feels right where it should be. it is a playful but not at all naïve conglomerate of home made, easy going techno sounds, reminding you a little of back then, but first and foremost letting you groove right now! easily, yet resolutely, you get carried away by the catchy beat that is pushing forward both tracks *stata* and *monday* on the first relax 2000 release in 2015. a perfect restart to just relax and enjoy some fresh, real good techno tune!
two slices of brilliant brazilian disco, painel de controle have a few bangers across their rca lps, these two being my favourites. *relax* is a straight up boogie monster, well known to deep disco & boogie heads flipped with *malandrinh* with its insanely catchy guitar. the original brazilian *relax* 7 inch plays at 33rpm (like many brazilian 45s), if you know you are cutting you will know this is not ideal. our new 7 inch is 45rpm and cut from a super crisp new master from the tapes at timmon cutting labs, sounds about 5x better than the o.g. ... simple choice.
relax your body is a killer slice of narcotic, mid-tempo italian heaviness from way back in the late 80s. coming out on italys full time label, an italo disco imprint that embraced the burgeoning house scene in italy, and finding favor across europe and the uk with djs like andrew weatherall, its klf sampling groove and spoken, authoritative, mantra-like lyrics no doubt sound tracked some of the headiest moments in the corners of darkened, dry ice filled dance-floors throughout 1989 and beyond.
steve murphy joins the lobster theremin stable with a roaring and varied ep. the a-side plunges a big room sensibility with eyes behind the door and relax both rolling on the back of techno-driven house music. the flip sees trams electro-tinged wave drops and try it, possibly murphys deepest track to date. two bumper techno locked grooves too for good measure!
here we have two new tracks from shabaam sahdeeq. the a-side is produced by lewis parker and the b-side produced by pings. the record includes instrumentals and acapellas to both songs. full colour artwork by bee.
both of these tracks are taken from the forthcoming full length album, *keepers of the lost art*.
ramrod is a rebell on the dancefloor and on the decks! known for his guitar and rock based productions he brings us 4 tracks with strong songcharacter in his rebell-rave style. he is also known for his great dj sets together with syntax error as the die bomclikks (german pronounciation) dj team. another new record which can be used to bring the dancelfoor up to the boiling point.
first on decks.de!! again a new groovy dark track from szymon on his new relax2000. after his last release on relax2015 which was supported by remixes from felix bernhardt and syntax error, this time, he gets remixed by the cologne niederflur duo, who are one of the first acts on m-nus since the early days. after their return in 2010 with their album bipolar on their very own label niederflurtracks, followed up by a remix series featuring the great works of troy pierce, raudive, jonas kopp etc., they also take part of the relaxed releases on relax2000 records. they chose szymon hollner s freaky poeple to add their own electronic music aspects.
this exquisite disco roughie, paying homage to that sleazy, backroom-disco sound of the boys town gang and skatt bros., is the latest addition to the history clock canon. and ill wager that this is going to be the post-summer smash of the undergrounds counter-cultural disco scene. >cruiser< is a simple, bass loop that grinds and growls like an early weatherall-style groove, beneath some of the most x-rated sociolinguistics that would make even a sailor blush! on the b-side, relaxer is a punchy, proto-house instrumental that sounds like something somewhere between the very early releases on trax and one of those obscure 12? killer dub versions from a mid-80s, uk pop tune
one of the key artists in japan is so inagawa. his first tack of relaxine has been mixed by harley & muscle in >deep house part 1< compilation album. next up is >cabaret to cabaret ep<, tracks which new style of deep house, featuring deep and groovy sound. so inagawa info: started his career, influenced by the jesus and marychain, the smith and so on. >cabaret< released from french famous label telegraph record in 2005. this aesthetic minimal abstract track was licenced by tobi neumans mix cd, and its become a bomb. he keep releasing constantly from milnormodern, rrygular, fenou, trimsound, minimood, goosehound, unfoundsound, multivitamin by both of so inagawa and the suffragettes. better not to miss his live, dj in the clubs around.
an ep of two tales, the first beginning in berlin during the winter of 2005, the second from the wilds of the english countryside. mark hawkins should need no introduction here. his music career which spans the past ten years has brought numerous releases, and performances around the world, including legendary clubs like stammheim, tresor and u60311 in germany, doornroosje in the netherlands, le batofar in paris, france and the tunnel club in st. petersburg, russia. je:5 is one of uks most unsung talents. resident live-act at uglyfunk from its inception in 1997, he was always pushing the boundaries, quite often, writing his live sets on the night of the performances.
incl. patrick lindsey remix. label boss christian schachta returns once more with two new cuts of grinding bass and razor-sharp percussion for your listening pleasure. >sugar bombs< pairs up grungy bass with metallic artificial vocal stabs which arrange themselves into a solid techno groove. >sweet market< strips it all back to basics, spitting occasional claps, bleeps and snares, whilst the growling bass returns, growing in intensity as the track progresses. old school bad nauheim techno hero patrick lindsey re-invents >sweet market< into a driving techno-house thumper, complete with clapping and chanting, vocal snips and chicago styled hats, ready to give the party a big boot in the ass in fine style!
n.o.a.h is the east side japanese beat maker/engenier, and >just relax< featured blu who well know for unit c.r.a.c with ta raach. already big hit with the remixes by a dan aikido and quasimode. and heres remixed from crew grooveman spot and new beat maker monkey sequence 19. grooveman spot takes detroit style way groove with dub-influenced drum break and jazzy key. 4/4 beats and spacey key sample would be big stuff for fans of dilla, theo or o-boogie... you will >feel and fly like an eagle< with this remixes. monkey sequence 19s remix remind us new dimension of hip hop like ras g, flying lotus. so scientific beats & groove. both remixes include instrumental versions, and this would be big stuff not only hip hop djs also for house/crossover dj. this is quite limited pressing. dont miss this release!
so inagawa first release compiled >deep house part 1- mixed by harley & muscle< compilation. japanese underground label >relaxine< will proudly announce deep tech house track >ride ep< that is second release coming from murakami(poker flat/dessous/morris audio)! ryos career started as dj, on the base of influence by the oldschool hiphop, house, techno, and rock. as soon as he was inspired by alternative sounds like analog synthesizer and old rhythm machines, he began to devote to produce electronic music. his sound contains experimental minimal and cutting edge house music. crosstown labelowner damian lazarus has picked him up and supported to releae ‘the lizard’ as the name of p.a.n on revelone which is sublabel of crosstown in 2006. ‘groove master’ daniel bell has played ‘the lizard’ in his mix cd and it has brought him deserved recognition as bona-fide new talent. steve bug, who runs poker flat and house line labe dessous, dropped ryo’s “my soul rise monument” to best album best kept secrets ” on dessous in 2007. he has became the first artist to be played 2 tracks on the fabric mix cd series steve bug mixes fabric 37 and it was great achievement for him. he has been releasing rise on dessous, down the sky on poker flat and lovin ep on morris audio since then.
