considered by those in the know to be one of the founding fathers of dutch electronic music, rick van breugel makes returns to his rare electrick dragon alias for a superlative debut on the cyber dance imprint with space connection. hardly the most prolific of labels, cyber dance releases are invariably italo disco worthy of your attention and the three tracks here ensure this status quo remains! tough and rough, >night with you< finds room amidst the flexed drums and thick arpeggiated groove to drop some romantic italo vibes for the lovers out there, whilst some sort of odd laser fx on the two adds that extra degree of individuality to the gleefully effervescent exercise in constantly building joy that is the title track. final track >soon as the stars< is a production that could only have emerged from the lowlands, the ever present outer galactic synth work and subtle yet intricate tape saturated percussion complemented by key lines that spiral in and out of focus with hypnotic intent.
keeping the momentum going following the recent release of phentix s pitch black ep, cyberfunk turn to a true european heavyweight of the techstep world. current value has worked solidly underground with nearly 20 years of production experience under his belt and an album catalogue that stretches into double figures. having recently made waves with his ep and album on critical, he brings his corrosive sound to the cyberfunk stable. covering 4 tracks and a digital exclusive, current value links with label boss xtrah for opening cut falsify. a monolithic, gargantuan beast, falsify shape shifts effortlessly via it s pummeling breaks and buzzcut top line. espace sees current value draw your ears one way with its infectious bounce without you knowing it s an ever growing assault on your aural synapses. title track airshift keeps it rolling with tight drum programming and a thundering, gut punching bassline to hold it all in place while matchfit closes the show with an unrelenting neuro slant, embodying all that is great about tech drum & bass in 2016. getting a producer with the calibre of current value on board as part of the cyberfunk family shows the ambition xtrah and his increasingly impressive label have and will continue to keep you guessing with what s coming next. cyberfunk are definitely closing out the year with a bang.
cyber dance records return with a full-length double-vinyl album from manchesters kid machine (aka mark wilkinson) following a string of instantly sold-out eps for viewlexx, red laser and flight recorder. a long-time collaborator of world-famous italo disco dj flemming dalum, it is no surprise that many of the tracks have that hallmark space sound reminiscent of the likes of cyber people and koto, but mark stamps his own distinct identity on the genre by slowing down the bpms and incorporating many other influences throughout so that this is no retro affair but a distinctly fresh and modern take on the genre.

having recently made his inaugural outing on brainfeeder with aphelion ep, british producer ross from friends aka felix clary weatherall returns with his debut album on flying lotus label. family portrait is characterised by a perpetual desire to experiment and felixs obsessive attention to detail, somehow marrying an intricately layered production style with warm, heavily saturated sonics that elevate, rather than stifle, his melodious funk. with a handful of revered 12inches under his belt via breaker breaker, lobster theremin, distant hawaii, magicwire and a 10inch on molten jets. family portrait showcases his ability to shift and evolve, moving from the world of lo-fi to the world of flylo, he demonstrates a versatility exemplified by the ease in which he can switch between playing shows with little dragon, holding down a peak-time slot in berghains panorama bar and performing live at maida vale for bbc radio 1. the double vinyl release includes a download code.

new album by the irrepressible dutchman.. the 2080 part of the album title is taken from the roland jv2080, a legendary digital synthesizer from the nineties that was used a lot in the making of the album
giant panda has returned! giant pandas debut album, fly school reunion, dropped in 2005 and was received by unsuspecting ears that caught the raw sounds bursting forth.with their sophomore effort however, giant panda has evidently graduated. electric laser is the name of the game, and gp plays it well.

the album itself features ten new tracks of pure legowelt music mainly recorded in de hague in the past year, but also on the road during tours of la, the californian desert, tokyo (which spawned crystal cult 2080) and tejada gran canaria (where the future of myself was written.) where his last album the paranormal soul was an organic trip into misty forests, this one seems more concerned with medieval spirits its deeper, darker and the whole thing is tied together by a more coherent sense of ancient alchemy
