for the past two years, flee has been working on its first issue entitled benga music – a signature genre from kenya. conceived as an attempt to document a kenyan timeless music genre – benga – this issue is also a visual and audial tribute to the heritage of east african music. approaching this musical genre with a new and innovative perspective, the first release of flee features a vinyl compilation and a printed journal. faithful to the local essence of the genre while transcending unproductive nostalgia, the two objects ensure that the vibrant traditional roots of the benga movement interact with a contemporary approach. to make this initiative possible, we joined forces with celebrated kenyan journalists, ondiso madete and emmanuel mwendwa, and collaborated with renowned international specialists such as douglas paterson. this great team work translated into a well-documented manuscript, with exciting articles, exclusive authentic photos of the era and creative present-day illustrations celebrating the genre. accompanying the journal, the record tells a surprising story, starting with the pioneers of benga (daniel owino misiani, george ramogi and the migori superstars) and concluding with the modern respectful re-interpretations of nik weston, jaakko eino kalevi, and africaine 808, blowing the dust of the original scores.
note: import release - limited repress - comes with digital download code and a 16 pages silkscreen printed journal with articles in english and french.
the new release from help presents works from various help-releated artists. another release from the arhus-imprint that doesn’t directly state club-proof, but still, this one wouldn t mind having a spin or two by your local dance pusher.the opening track is by central, a ripe house tune with both melodies and good-vibes - probably the closest this young man has come to making an anthem. next up is the four piece group maizena with an ambiguous rhythmical ambient-house jam from the area of denmark with the least rainfall. on the b-side you’ll find a raw and to the point recording of dj sports and c.k joining ph 1 in his throwback techno-studio in the suburbs of arhus. next up is the long awaited debut from manmade deejay, who has been cooking a floating rhythm jam for this 5 course meal of modern danish cuisine. last but not least amsterdam-based kaap joined central on a fine day at rubber studios to create this dreamy and galloping ride. all in all this genuine piece of wax is filled with local devotion and love from the help-crew. thanks for the support!
-a new 12” from the danish label regelbau. this time the crew invites maizena to do the a-side, which is two different mixes of the track “especial”. maizena has brought the until now unknown singer francesca b to sing along. on the flip-side you’ll find
a 12 stuffed to the brim with music by c.k & timeman, dj sports, optic & maizena!!! rhythmical ambient house music á la izquierda! on a1 timeman (central) and c.k (of 2 bit crew) pick up the thread of rb02 and can be enjoyed in uninterrupted continous play for a full 22 minute listening experience. a2 is a floating groovy ambient’ish jam by the other half of 2 bit crew, optic. rb’s youngboy dj sports delivers a slowmotion jungle track for a lightweight dancefloor moment on the flipside. b2 is an extended version of the monotonus soft-house-beauty tiny music by the group maizena.
tonic004 sees two edits of an amazing 90 s house record. a side see s kk and ma chopping up the original to give it a new lease of life with some added dance floor flesh while the b see s the tuff city kids (gj and pl) manipulate the original into a rave weapon of choice for the savy dj. vinyl only - no digital.

>tsuki-kake< is vinyl only cuts from their forthcoming >the future is now ep< and their features fantastic remixes from jazzy sports acts budamunk and sick team. they did doing big gig this january and they got sympathy with each other.
usually, the purpose of a piece like this is to tell other writers, music mag editors, distribution people and record shop clerks why they should like a certain release and buy, hype, review it. often these encomiums are not really honest and sometimes you even feel like attending an attempt to sell a flat tire. as for i:cubes new longplayer m megamix things are – of course! – very different. being its fifth solo album, an introduction of a man like nicolas chaix or even his biography (another popular brick of sales sheets) seems rather unsuitable. if you dont know what you should know, just use your internet search engine with any of these terms: chateau flight, versatile records, french touch, disco cubizm or parisian prodigy.
ltd 12inch with cuts from the forthcoming dj mitsu the beats album >universal force<.instrumentals included! side a features b.d - mitsu deliveres a warm, jazzy groove, using brass and fender rhodes samples side b featured s.l.a.c.k. finally on lp! levels of interest in this outstanding era of west african music are higher than ever following the exceptional work of labels such as soundway, analog africa, strut, honest jons and otrabanda. this excellent compilation provides further proof of the sheer depth of quality of music coming out of post-independence ghana.
