one of the tracks that truly encapsulated this magical time was stirling void’s “it’s alright”. originally released on chicago’s seminal label dj international, the spine-chilling lyrics of positivity resonated in the hearts and minds of the acid house generation and are more relevant in today’s climate than ever. to celebrate 30 years since the summer of love, toolroom is proud to present a monumental remix package of this all-time classic, alongside the fully re-mastered original.
first up on remix duties is one of house music’s most intriguing artists. adesse versions has a back catalogue of highly sought-after records, and he’s treated this remix with utmost respect, keeping the track’s essence and identity, but adding a new layer of raw warmth and subliminal melody. next up, house legend dj spen has stepped up to the plate with his own interpretation. his jazzy, soulful keys have added a layer of polish and musicality to the track, which combine beautifully with paris brightledge’s iconic vocals.

swedish artist ubx127 is back on figure with what might just be his most accomplished release to date. spanning an arc cross four diverse tracks, the story told is abstract yet full of imagination. gently pulsating crystalline opener woid carefully sets a vast open scene, covered in gushes of interplanetary winds. first contact is made on a2, its electro-esque drive and spiky synths hinting at its alien origins. a taste of their mighty technology is given on watch out below, booming with a propulsive punch and constantly swelling in intensity. relief comes in form of singularity, a beautiful, long-winding closer, on which soothing arps effortlessly outweigh their beaty counterparts. having already proven his mastery of the machines with three stellar eps for the label last year, this record further showcases ubx127s special talent of crafting tunes that are as ripe with drama as they are ready for the floor.

around was the first song from same language different worlds that everybody heard. tim burgess had sent a home made cd-r to lauren laverne as soon as the record was completed and she texted asking if a song could be featured on the 6music show that morning. peter gordon and tim had spent the precious few months crafting the album in new york, norfolk & manchester - tim sent the song to pete kember and proclaimed the resultant remix as “one of the best tracks i ve ever had the pleasure of being involved with”.

toydrum are a duo who sneak into the consciousness. not for them the full frontal assault but, instead, a drip-feed of classy work that many may know without knowing. their hugely acclaimed work with the late singer-songwriter gavin clark lit up shane meadows’ ‘this is england ‘90’, their rework of john lennon’s ‘how do you sleep’ led noel gallagher to have them remix his high flying birds hit ‘in the heat of the moment’ (which, in turn, soundtracked last year’s epic ad for the latest ‘assassin’s creed’ game), and their soundtracks for films such as the recent tye sheridan-starring thriller ‘detour’ and alice lowe’s 2016 venice film festival opener, ‘prevenge’, have broadened their appeal further. toydrum’s signing to skint records is now announced and celebrated by ‘my eye on you (to reinvision)’, a collective interpretation of their work thus far, running the gamut from nick cave’s balladry to trentemøller’s drum & bass-tinted electronica.
