daniel lopatin aka oneohtrix point never lässt seinem hochgelobten neuen album “age of” die limitierte 4-track-ep “we’ll take it” folgen. der titeltrack ist als albumfavorit gleichzeitig die neue singleauskopplung, die übrigen drei tracks sind bislang unveröffentlicht. eine editierte version von “trance 1” war übrigens teil des radiosignals “a message from earth” zum 40-jährigen jubiläum der golden records, die an bord der beiden voyager-missionen mit klängen und bildern von der erde in den weltraum geschickt wurden. das vinyl erscheint inklusive downloadcode.

auf dem bis dato facettenreichsten und zugleich schlüssigsten werk daniel lopatins, verknüpft der 35-jährige die unterschiedlichsten musikalischen einflüsse – von alter musik über country- und folk-balladen bis hin zu melodischem pop, computer-musik und noch ganz anderen stilen –, womit er abermals eindrucksvoll belegt, wie vielschichtig und komplex sein musikbegriff ist. indem er klangwelten entwirft, die einerseits verwirrend geläufig sind, dabei aber doch ganz klar seine handschrift tragen, entführt er die hörer und hörerinnen im verlauf von -age of- auf vollkommenes neuland.

having recently appeared on bosconi records and altzmusica, daisuke kondo is a producer on the rise at present. this outing on vibraphone adds fuel to that particular fire with four distinctive cuts that push to the outer edges of house music without losing sight of the groove. -hold on to love- is, on the surface, an upbeat, disco-infused house jam, but there s a certain trippy approach kondo takes in the processing department that edges the music into a different head space. -life- meanwhile gets gritty and bass heavy at one end of the frequency range, and airy and melodic at the other. -feelin blue- gets even dustier and scratchier with its sample treatment, and then -fallen star- lays down some unflinching machine beats with wonky, distant piano licks.

nereid appears out of the techno mists on the newly minted warped core label shrouded in mystery, with subtle monochrome head twisters to match. umea leads the charge on the a side with an ethereal trip into dubby soundscapes filled out with plentiful reverb and pattering rhythms to snake straight into your cerebellum. operator has an instructive bass throb carrying it along, although it imparts a similar steely aesthetic to the opening track. neptune is no slouch either, using nagging mid-range percussion and eerie bleeps to spell out stern, functional techno of the deepest kind.

clark krönt eine weiteres erfolgreiches jahr mit den beiden neuen rave-monstern honey badger und pig, die die rohe dancefloor energie demonstrieren, die clark in den bisherigen 20 jahren seiner warp-karriere so eigen war (und immer noch ist). clark über diese 12inch. these two tracks are my favourite part of the death peak live show. developing them and releasing this 12inch felt essential.

der dramatische thriller der beiden safdie-brüder ist eine hypnotische odyssee durch die new yorker unterwelt, in der der protagonist verzweifelt versucht, seinen bruder aus dem gefängnis zu holen. die hauptrollen spielen robert pattinson (in seiner bislang besten performance) und jennifer jason leigh. musik und bilder gehen dabei eine symbiose von unglaublicher tiefe ein, wenn banale events zu dramen und montagen zu miniopern werden. oneohtrix point never gelingt mit dem soundtrack ein ausgesprochenes hörerlebnis, das seinen exzellenten studioalben in nichts nachsteht, und mit -the pure and the damned- featuring iggy pop einen markanten schlüsseltrack enthält.

bereits 2010 gaben shobaleader one featuring tom jenkinson aka squarepusher am e-bass mit dem album d demonstrator ein erstes lebenszeichen von sich. mit elektrac meldet sich die band nun 2017 zurück und liefert live eingespielte interpretationen von 11 squarepusher tracks aus dessen reichhaltiger diskografie ab. shobaleader ones sound ist retrofuturistische, organische space-fusion aus funk, jazz und electro. diese präsentieren sie im markanten outfit aus mönchskutten mit led-masken auch live. das prägnante artwork stammt übrigens von iron maiden-designer mark wilkinson aka the masque.

lopatins präziser ansatz an komposition und kreation hat ihn zu einem der einflussreichsten und prägnantesten persönlichkeiten moderner, elektronischer klanglandschaften gemacht. so arbeitete er für viele künstler, regisseure, musiker und führende kunstinstitutionen: von sofia coppola bis ariel kleiman, von antony & the johnsons (dessen kommendes album er produzierte) bis nine inch nails, von der tate modern (london) bis zum moma (museum of modern art, new york). da dem künstler oneohtrix point never auch immer etwas geheimnisvolles anhaftet, läuft seine teaserkampagne mit einer serie an abstrakten interviews, trailern und soundfiles - so kamen bereits erste materialschnipsel als midi-dateien in umlauf. das doppel-vinyl erscheint im klappcover, downloadcode inklusive.

lonelady nennt parliament/funkadelic, stevie wonder, rufus, prince und arthur russell als inspiration für ihr zweites album, das durchweg unterlegt ist mit einer dringlichen post-punk-sensibilität, die laut künstlerin bezeichnend für die nordenglische seele ist. so erinnern die schlichten drum machine-rhythmen und synthetische percussion an minimal-wave und frühen techno/dance, während lonelady sie mit ihrem komplexen, abgehackten und treibenden gitarrenspiel dynamisch verbindet. produziert wurde *hinterland* von bill skibbe (austra, the kills, the dead weather) in den keyclub recording studios in einer industriezone michigans, wo neben klassischen synths und drum machines auch die 70er flickinger konsole von sly stone steht. das vinyl-album erscheint im klappcover.

zweite teaser 12 inch zum bevorstehenden zweiten album der lonelady, *hinterland*. das albumhighlight *bunkerpop* ist ein von post-punk inspirierter ohrwurm mit funky gitarrenlinien über einer mechanischen drum machine, mit dem lonelady wieder ihr ausgezeichnetes songwriting bei minimal-groovender instrumentierung unter beweis stellt.

daniel lopatin, sohn russicher us-einwanderer, hat sich als oneohtrix point never mit experimenteller elektronik einen namen als talentierter komponist erarbeitet. er veröffentlichte drei alben auf minilabels, arbeitete mit antony hegarty als sänger und mit animal collective als festivalhoster (atp) zusammen und schrieb neben brian reitzell die musik zu sofia coppolas jüngstem film *the bling ring*. lopatins musikalisches schaffen wird von kritikern mit einem zerbrochenem spiegel verglichen, in dem sich klänge aus der vergangenheit brechen. auch auf seinem warp-debüt *r plus seven* blinkt seine neigung zum experimentellen immer hervor, zeitgleich wagt er sich so nah wie nie zuvor an traditionelle songstrukturen heran, so dass die zehn neuen tracks zu gleichen teilen aufwühlerisch wie hypnotisch wirken.
