revered swedish producer sebastian mullaert releases his first exclusive vinyl on default position after the huge success of his remix to vedanta in 2014. sebastian first made his name as one half of the acclaimed duos minilogue and son kite, but in recent times focuses on his solo career, which sees him appearing at clubs and festivals all over the world and releasing on some of the industry s most respected labels and imprints. samunnati is a brand new double vinyl ep featuring four original mixes from mulleart, with remixes from fellow swedish duo johanna knutson & hans berg, belgium s danieli and label founder joseph s. joyce. its genesis lies in a melody recorded live on sebastian s roland sh101 which has been resampled and processed in many different ways, offering several contrasting mixes to suit many different tastes and styles.

sebastian mullaert is of course first of all known as half of minilogue, a duo so influential in the hypnotic field of techno that korg recently named a synthesizer after them. lately, sebastian has focused on his solo path under the wa wu we moniker, releasing stripped back and personal music on his own wa wu we label, the cryptic s.e.l.f label and now on kontra-musik. on the title track travellers, sebastian mullaert uses a straight up techno formula that may surprise listeners who haven t followed his move into wa wu we territory. you almost get the impression sebastian buried a recording destined for a rigid techno label in a deep forest back in the 90 s and has now decided to uncover it again, finding that the track has matured under the black soil.
to release a new piece of music, it would seem, is to enter a competition for approval and appearances: who will play that track and how many will follow. likes. clicks. transient signs of appreciation, or perhaps just vague nods of confirmation. but what about all those values inherent in music that just cant be quantified? if merely one single person would listen to these songs and find herself or himself genuinely moved by them, wouldnt it be worth it? we think so. we really do.
jonas kopp is the man in charge of our labels new and latest release. the argentinean dj and producer is one of the most prolific in the scene: he records for the best labels, never stops remixing and has gigs almost everywhere. and of course, he also runs his own imprint, traut muzik.
we are pleased to welcome american producer developer into our pack. mr. developer brings to warm up his beats and sequences all the way from the west coast, with two original tracks plus a bunch of extra remixes available on the digital edition. on the list of remakes, none other than argentinean top producer pfirter and the label owner himself, oscar mulero, both in charge of providing all the funk.
the wurst edits gang has inducted yet another ny disco acolyte to the fold, the inimitable irishman-in-new york, eamon harkin. known for wild dj sets not to mention his innovative bookings at such parties as sunday best and fun, harkins no stranger to dance music. no wonder the mans shared bills with such legends as afrika bambaataa, juan atkins, grandmaster flash, the egyptian lover, and kevin saunderson. on his debut single, the man heads straight into peak-time territory with the sinister sounds of >john boy<, where synth toms jump out of the shadows only to punctuate an incredibly propulsive groove. >innit< takes a decidedly different turn down edits lane, rejuvenating an early 90s house gem in magnificently wurst fashion.

high mobility weapons unit sets off from an unknown location on earth, making its maiden voyage beyond our solar system and towards a distant galaxy. the transverse velocity ep is the debut release on the self-titled imprint, serving up four original tracks that are heavily influenced by mechanical cycles and deep space concepts. the a-side kicks off with the eps title track transverse velocity, where an array of eroded satellite bleeps and waves loop together as the analogue low-end pulsates rhythmically below. in wave 102 the bleeps are detuned and erratically timed, with a glitchy tape delay unit modulating them throughout the track. the saturated 808 kick drum and processed percussion are given a functional structure, allowing the bleeps to take centre stage. on the b-side, both cycle 01 and astronomy tool serve as stripped-back percussive dj tools. cycle 01 rolls along with its hollow, muted polyrhythmic stab line, whilst astronomy tool drives forward with an effective, crystalline synth hit. mastered by black monolith studios.
