only 100 numbered, another day, another project here at hizou. this time the first in our special series of strictly-limited vinyl releases focusing on another side to the electronic music we love, yes, a little different to the classic chicago and detroit-inspired sounds of our main label, but with just the same passion, pride and panache. friend of the label w&p hgg (aka hugo giner) returns with techno is back, a cut darker and more twisted than the timeless and jazz-influenced house he is usually associated with, while the enigmatic ithkuil debuts with speak my language, a slice of truly dope deepness. the much-touted duo gauss enhance their rapidly-growing reputation with diversey river bowl, another uncompromising delivery of machine funk, whilst the vastly-experienced pairing of jaime read and owen jay join forces on aalto, a groovy, acid-inspired little number.
w&p hgg is back to deep explorer since his last release on the label in 2010. this new ep contains edit gospel 5, a hard to find old classic tune by w&p hgg and two new versions of the song by the deep explorer heads, one killer club cut by dubbyman and another downbeat take for chilled moments. is crurch time
we are deeply proud of all our music here at hizou. our latest release, however, we believe is just that little bit special. because we welcome to the label a producer we much admire and also proudly call our friend, w & p hgg aka hugo giner, owner of the formidable cornuta sound imprint. and his ep, down for heaven, is notable also for marking the debut of a new partnership, the sons of empire, otherwise known as those two masters of the deep, ernie from minuendo recordings and dubbyman of deep explorer. it is giners unique soul, however, that takes centre stage with side one devoted entirely to its 13 minutes of glorious, irresistible and uplifting house odyssey. on the reverse comes welcome, a chunkier though equally hypnotic slab of sly deepness, ably supported by the sons of empire remix which takes the track to a more chilled and, dare we say, funkier celestial plane.
leading spanish deephouse lables deep explorer and cornuta continue to exchange the pleasantries: after the recent stunning 4 tracker by cornuta boss - featuring new version of modern deephouse classics like >sleep scott heron<, deep explorer head honcho dubbyman pays it back with the equally fantastic >king of motown< featuring vocals snippets of motor city silkiest over a loose percussive beat with organ stabs and beautiful string backings. cornuta don hugo giner - better known as w&p hgg - adds a marvelous version displaying a melodic sensibility close to vintage larry heard. the hard funkin 80s electro boogie style >funky orgy< closes the sizzling hot 12inch in fine style.
is the cornuta sounds return after a long resting time. this new 10inch contains one of the most saved songs by above smoke (deep explorer) that runs into the jazz world and an outro take for djs. the flipside brings a great rework by the label boss (w&p hgg).
