vox populi field works vol.ii is the second part of a broader project entitled ‘field works’, in which the label travels to different locations in the world in order to collect sounds, eventually creating an archive of some of the finest and humblest musical traditions. inspired by academic methods proper to ethnomusicology and ethnography, this project’s aim is to showcase the diversity of our human cultural heritage, which is threatened by accelerated globalization and homogenization of the worldwide musical spectrum.
this record is the result of a twenty-day trip to japan. led by anthropologist and label founder fred scharf and his vox populi records crew, this is the second instalment on the ‘field works’ series. this 12’’ vinyl release is a collection of field recordings, jam sessions, studio recordings, street soundscapes, religious rituals, fighting championships and wedding ceremonies, all of which were remixed and reinterpreted by japan blues, tim karbon, hiroaki oba & shizka (aka inoue shirabe), delivering tracks whose core represents a wide array of traditional japanese sounds.

following the success of last years reissue of vox populis aither, emotional rescue returns to the french / persian band with the first of two albums selected from their considerable archive. first, their experiments between 1984 and 1989 in what are essentially pre-aither sessions, magiques creations is in essence, an album of the imagination.

são paulo born producer l_cio, is already an established name in the brazilian underground electronic scene. having previously released on d.o.c. and kompakt records, he delivers a 3 track ep full of energy and dance floor ready cuts.
the a side kicks off with “lua”, where unresting hi hats harmonically blend with a powerful kick and lush pads. a2 is the vocal vox version of “lua” featuring the amazing laura diaz, co-founder of the mamba negra collective in são paulo, brazil. on the flip side we find the track “percussive city”, a throbbing percussive number that is primed and ready to set dance floors on fire.

vox populi come through with their third release. this time mrs jones delivers four minimal inspired cuts chocked full of grindy deep synth work, vocal manipulations and popping percussion.

he first instalment of the vox populi field works project, melancholic and minimalistic grooves hover over organic soundscapes and live instrumentation. a truly hypnotic and compelling four tracker providing premium, deep dance floor cuts.

terrarium, the debut ep from belgian producer Ëlohim is the second release from berlin based vox populi records. it features two original tracks and two remixes from deepneue and ngly. it will be released on vinyl only.

vox populi 001 is the first ep from the brand-new berlin-based label vox populi records. a compilation ep featuring three tracks from various artists. this vinyl reflects all the intricacies of the labels unique character.
