while ant plate has been insanely busy with a plethora of aliases on a multitude of labels recently, he s still found time to turn out some surefire heaters in the studio with long time sparring partner matt hunt. this release marks the first appearance of rhythm plate on vinyl only, but it s worth the wait. there s an epic scope to apathetic empathy, which features bashy 80s drum hits and squelchy bass front and centre, but soaring vocal licks and piano stabs that widen the track out beautifully. observed privacy is a more emotive cut laden with illustrious keys, abuser experience is a bright and bashy deep house belter and prototype night takes things down a slinky, acid-speckled route. rhythm plate still serving up the house music realness after nearly 20 years.
after popping up on a various artists release last year, ugly frankie makes good on his connection to the vinyl only label with a full fat ep of chunked up, funked out house business for sunny climes. there s a dusty, rolling tone to the tracks on offer here - the crafty edits, nimble sample treatment and inventive layering creates a vibe you can lose yourself in all day. these aren t just straight up dancefloor rollers either cow boogie bumps and slides with a low slung swagger that will have you popping at a slower tempo but they re all prime for the get down. for some dusty, soul-laced cuts produced with flair, look no further.
vinyl only reach their seventh release with a fresh grip of lesser known producers bringing high grade grooves to the table. bubbadog opens the 12inch up in a woozy fashion with the warbling piano chords of goin round, capturing a time-slip mood that carries through to the dusty jazz soaked beat down of minus the majors strole on through. on the b-side, alex zuiev gets into an exotic, chiming, 80s-inflected mood on down by the river, creating a slow-burning dancefloor heater out of classic ingredients. ugly frankie finishes the ep off with the stripped down funk of your ears look great
ant plates vinyl only ventures continue unabated, taking a break from the yse saint laur ant releases and turning to minus the majors instead. whether its just plate in another one of his guises or not is unclear, but the music certainly fits in with the more exploratory, downtempo nature of previous vinyl only releases. he looked is an especially funky number that revolves around crafty beats and warm moog-esque synth ripples. things get more broken on jizz jazz, and then drongo manages to go even further out to sea in its quest for the perfect balance between funk and freakiness.
as yse saint laur ant, ant plate (one half of ever productive duo rhythm plate) takes some time out from crafting refined deep house music to indulge his more wayward tendencies. amongst the music coming to light in this intriguing diversion from a prolific artist is the fantastic just because, which comes on like early wagon christ material with a modern production sheen. space is defunct meanwhile slaps down some chugging 80s flavoured grooves, 2106 reaches for the boogie and dont make me think channels a laid back balearic mindset. it s a mixed bag of a record, make no mistake. that s also what makes it marvelous.
the vinyl only label comes from ant plate (of rhythm plate notoriety), and following some turns from ant himself as yse saint laur ant the label branches out to welcome brand new entity (or quite possibly alias) bubbadog to the playing field. the quality of the music eschews any notions of who did what, as the tumbling latin tones of -alma- meet with the laid-back, handclap-heavy bliss of -threshold-. -boodoo- on the flip deals in a more peppy kind of offbeat house, and then -talkin talkin - and -harry- drop down into a classic bit of funk breaks business.
yse saint laur ant has spent far too long writing and releasing music in one guise or another to endure writing clever promo/impress releases. instead, vinyl only wants to let the music speak for itself keep it simple if you dont like it today then thats cool, we get we cant please all the people, all of the time. however if don t buy from juno today please dont whine to us when you ll be forced to spend the better part of double/treble the price for this very same release on discogs in a few years time
ant plate of rhythm plate infamy has been putting out records under the deftly punned yse saint laur ant name for the past four years, racking up 12inches for whiskey disco, editorial, and pickpocket that showcase his crate digging, beatchopping, soul dripping expertise. given that several of these records now command a pretty penny on the second hand market you d be best advised to not dally when considering the merits of the latest yse saint laur ant transmission for the newly minted vinyl only label. the stonewall ep features four expertly teased exercises in low bpm bumps with closer it beats the music our pick of the bunch

limited white vinyl 180g repress due to high demand on requests. on its second release, the fresh label eating records, native of brussels, embarks us on its most unlikely underground journey yet .the new project includes two beautiful tracks from the deep flows of house music, from the unfamous talented producer from kiev, io (mulen). there s no point in trying to place io or his music in some larger social picture. no need to talk about his intensive production. his successful releases can be found on imprints such as rejected (joris voorn), propaganda (nastia), elarum and his own mulen records which he started in 2012 and that released his stunning debut album within 2013. on flutes/creeps ep, he thrives on fantastic impossibilities including flutes and deep melodic basses. it is obvious that mister io had a wonderful time making the two tracks. flutes comes up as victorious and gallant. it is an energizing shock full of curious noises, mesmerizing musical surprises, a real dancefloor track. creeps is discreet and dark, and remains beautifully deep. this track finds io wrenching as much sweetness out of it as he possibly can, in return giving us our first indication that he is in a generous spirit. when this ep comes to an end, it feels like getting back from a good vacation: the last thing you want to do is re-enter the real world.
