this 3 track ep from the legendary lee perry brings together new and unreleased tracks recorded at mad professor s ariwa studio in south london. the ep kicks of with this is the upsetter, which sees lee chanting and philosophising over a rollicking bass, underpinned by understated guitar and perfectly placed hats, and continues to the straight up dub, lion share dub . and on the flipside is the title track, game of the throne , with brass section and backing vocals belting out soul fire, with lee offering his words to selassie. mastered by the legendary noel summerville, artwork by henry dubroot alderson and g.s-l studio.

over the course of four unforgettable eps released on throne of blood since 2013, hardway brother sean johnston has cultivated a broad international following for his singular brand of dancefloor fodder. best known as one half of legendary dj team a love from outer space alongside the one-and-only andrew weatherall, johnston’s roots in the dance music scene include a clutch of leftfield 90’s era bangers on labels like sabres of paradise and flashcomm. beyond his original output, johnston has also remixed the likes of man power, the asphodells, museum of love, split secs, clandestino and many more. the laser ep is peaktime hardway bros business. friedman feedback loop revision (a nod to tob boss james friedmans highly-valued opinions) is a masterclass in efficient simplicity, elevating a few basic loops into an exhilarating 8 minute monster. the laser rounds out the a side with a classic electro rhythm/bass/vocal sample combo could easily have landed in retro territory. instead, hardway bros easily flips a clutch of oldschool tricks into an utterly modern execution. the b-side finds tobs label manager max pask injecting friedman feedback loop revision with his love for all things analog and italo. with his impressive collection of synths brought to life by chinatown records brennan green, the song is transformed into an epic set closer thats already devasting dancefloors like berlins panorama bar. the ep closes with afro sirene, a midtempo groover with melodic arpeggios built for the discerning djs warm-up set.

american producer dustin zahn readies the next release on rekids special projects this april with four vigorous cuts entitled take the throne. dustin zahn has been flying the techno flag for two decades, releasing on labels like rekids when not helming the berlin-based enemy records, a label which has released music from artists like fellow us techno stalwart ambivalent, arts boss emmanuel, and innervisions producer yotam avni. zahn is also respected for train wrecks, his weekly podcast series inviting members of the house and techno community to discuss a wide variety of music and industry related topics and stories. the release opens with the thumping kicks and sci-fi melodies of take the throne before rolling into the dubby tones, infectious claps and rattling white noise of decorum. the atmospheric nameless midnight then follows, packed with echoing synths, tantalising effects and a twisted vocal sample that weaves throughout, arriving at the final track subtle flex where escalating synths meet syncopated percussion.

having made his debut on throne of blood as a contributor to moon rock volume 4, cass. returns to the label with a blissed out 12” that builds upon the low-slung atmospheres of his recent output on emotional response and international feel (in collaboration with jan schulte) to create a heady and modern sound influenced by both balearic and 80’s pop sonics without every losing sight of the dance.

french artist marc nguyen tan released two renowned albums in the early 2003 and 2006 under the artist name colder on trevor jackson’s seminal label output recordings. in november 2015, colder returned after a decade in hiatus with his third, highly acclaimed album many colours followed by two other lps titled the rain and goodbye in 2016. kasper bjorke is one of the most acclaimed and versatile producers and djs hailing from denmark. kasper has released five renowned solo albums over the past decade and remixed a wide range of artists, from rebolledo to weval. the two artists first started working together when kasper remixed colders single ”your kind” - and colder in return remixed bjørke s track ”marbled blood”. the idea to take their collaboration even further was formed when the two of them met in person during sonar festival in barcelona in 2015. in 2016 they then teamed up in the redbull studio in paris for a three day improvised recording session. the result is the black magic ep in stores on september 8th via throne of blood. a collection of five raw, driving post punk / new wave and techno influenced compositions, recorded via the studio ssl desk in paris, using hardware synths and drum machines played through some exotic vintage effects. colder recorded his mesmerizing vocals on the spot along with french drummer julien sabourin and saxophone player thibaut javoy. the ep will be followed by a stellar remix package from the golden filter (optimo music), mutado pintado (paranoid london) and french producer and dj pilooski.

in almost ten years of existence, throne of blood has cultivated a diverse family of musical talent spread across the americas and europe, refusing to settle into any particular sound or scene. foremost among this crew of almost-impossible-to-pigeonhole producers is dissident veteran hardway bros aka sean johnston, known to many as andrew weatheral’s partner in a love from outer space. his third ep for the label, pleasure cry, is characteristic of seans style: a modern sound with sly winks to his rich history in electronic music.

after a relatively quiet 2015 which saw brooklyns throne of blood release the third volume in the moon rock ambient series and a handful of singles from man power, jimi after, and vito & druzzi, things are already heating up for 2016.

up and coming producer, odd/even label boss and close stockholm ltd affiliate andre kronert arrives on figure with an astounding 3 track ep, completed by a deadly len faki dub. kronert has risen through the ranks yet stayed true to his reduced, warm and powerful sound strategy. the opening track g.i.a.n.t makes for a wonderfully tense opener, with its expansive dark sound design and deep dub kick arriving around the half-way point. this is countersigned then by two more energetic tracks in the shape of the throne room and fallen space, both pivoting over a fulcrum of classic synth hooks and carefully honed percussion. len faki takes the throne room into a different mental zone, with his almost tropical dub version, ensnaring a freaky pitched motif to accent and build upon andre s powerful original elements. classic reduction, and an ep of classic figure contemporary techno.

on the heels of last years moon temple ep, throne of blood co-founders vito & druzzi return with the two floor-ready vocal house jams featuring xavier, a veteran vocalist best known for his brilliant version of gimme the night by george benson released on erstwhile nyc disco imprint, a touch of class recordings.

with each successive volume of throne of bloods moon rock compilations, the new york label attains a deeper appreciation of electronic musics most chakra-massaging tendencies, participating in a communal dialogue devoted to a new dynamic beyond the confines of the dance floor.

the anonymous man power makes his debut on throne of blood with the labels first release in 2015. closely affiliated with jennifer cardinis correspondant records, hes been making waves across the underground over the past couple years with remixes and releases on labels including hivern discs, eskimo records, ene, infiné, rothmans, and is it balearic? with a debut lp in the can for correspondant and 12inches due on voyeurhythm, renate schalplatten, and discos capablanca, this unknown producer and dj is definitely one to keep an eye on in 2015.

hardway bros (otherwise known as sean johnston of a love from outer space) returns to throne of blood with their second ep. after successfully exploring belgian new beat influences on last years *a/b music / shorty* release, sean continues to explore the darker side of vintage electronic tropes with the sleaze ep.

after teasing us over the last two years with compilation and split ep releases on labels such as lets play house, horn wax and throne of blood/black catalogue, acclaimed visual artist and filmmaker sean dack drops his first solo ep as pixelife for throne of blood. deftly navigating the grey areas in between house, techno and acid, pixelife delivers two original tracks built to move the dancefloor at strobe-saturated warehouse parties. remixes come from druzzi and pittsburgh track authority.

its safe to say that without vito & druzzi, we wouldn’t be here today. indeed, along with the other members of the rapture (ever heard of them?) and james friedman, they founded throne of blood. our histories go hand in hand. after releasing classic albums on labels like sub pop, dfa, vertigo, and motown- and spending more than a decade touring the world with lcd soundystem, soulwax, the cure, interpol, and franz ferdinand to name a few- vito & druzzi have spent the last few years shifting their focus towards djing and production, building a studio in brooklyn and churning out the jams. its been a labor a love and were very happy to present you with the first fruits of their collaboration

over a year in the making, moon rock volume 1 is the first in a series of compilations assembled by throne of blood recordings geared to explore the outer reaches of electronic ambience, cosmische vibrations, and crystalline acoustics. sparked by their shared love of ambient classics, label head james friedman and long-time tob artists cosmic kids put out a call for new and unreleased drones, beatless versions, and arpeggiated chillout tackle.

for its 37th release, throne of blood reaffirms its love for all things french, with a new ep by one of the countrys finest ambassadors: chloe. the kill the dj co-founder found time in her relentless dj schedule to deliver two originals to form the backbone of the aptly named smash ep. two cracking remixes round out the release.

savvy watchers of the throne (of blood) first got acquainted with split secs (the los angeles based duo of alexandre mouracade of sonns fame and west coast house and disco stalwart tk disco) back in december of last year, when they brilliantly remixed waze & odysseys our world. or perhaps it was their incredible work for labels like pacific wizard foundation, jolly jams, or their own machine limited. with the joint ep, they officially join the tob family, and what an entrance!

beat pharmacy is one among several identities employed by brendon moeller. originally from south africa and based in new york, moeller is known primarily for his extensive explorations of dub techno a la basic channel. with eight full length albums and countless tracks released on labels including smilee communications, astralwerks, wave music, deep space, mule electronique, steadfast, connaiseur, apnea, third ear, echochord, eskimo, rekids and more, moeller is returning to throne of blood for his second ep length outing in as many years

for hardway bros first ep for throne of blood, sean looked back to the late 80s belgian new beat scene as well as chicagos storied wax trax imprint for inspiration, turning in two walloping originals that could just as easily soundtrack a gothic club night instead of an acid house rave. on the a-side, a/b musique kicks off the proceedings with a steady lurching rhythm, driving the dancefloor to ecstacy thanks to densely layered synths and the contributions of timothy j. fairplay of the asphodells fame. the flipside features the absolutely devasting rhythms of shorty backed by an utterly epic nine-minute remix by scott fraser which manages to fuse the disparate sounds of new beat and the lush analog house vibes of classic mr. fingers even as it name checks the latters legendary above the clouds lp.
