thinktank return to stepback records with another colony of underground styles. hive mind mentality further expands on the diverse, unique in your face club tracks that thinktank have made a signature of their sound. first up on the a side is them. budding entomologists vinnie and the leph aka thinktank have unearthed what some might say as sci-fi classic techno of the atomic age. underpinned by a sheffield style bass crawl coupled with bleeps that will crush any dancefloor. this is the electronic sound of nature running amok. burrowing further on the b side stw serves you techno in it’s most creative form – synth led with a sick groove and huge drum rhythms. last but not least – waaaassps dg is a classic thinktank track with a sting in it’s tail. snapping, clapping, alive and kicking. you will be buzzing when the break-beat drops.

for lionoils 4th outing, formerly supine edinburgh top cat thinktank takes us on a dive around his subaquatic crib, drifting between its many chambers - each one stranger and more manic than the next.

stepback records launch with the first new thinktank material in many years!! danger at 300 fathoms ep combines styles from many genres, electro, house, techno, reggae, electronica all neatly produced and packaged to build an excellent first release for stepback records. its no surprise as thinktank aka colvin cruickshank has a strong background in writing and producing top quality music. his band snide rhythms has a cult following and his music with thinktank reveals the breath and diversity of colvins talents as a writer and producer. a side algae rhythms kicks off the ep. its a house focused club record with a quirkyness that defines thinktanks sound. meanwhile, w sludge on b1 packs more of a punch with its heavier kick drum, snares and a much more skanky feel. we round off with l ahrax point an uncomprimising club track. its badass electro but again with a deep twist that intrigues the listener and leaves you wanting to listen again and again.

antique fragments ep is the third release of our kommuna tapes imprint. the a side starts with a quirky fast-paced track created by a mysterious producer named schematix in 1997. thinktank, an electro/breakbeat act who signed his first and unique ep only a few years later in 2000, takes us on a punchy yet dreamy techno journey. on the flip side, after schematix undusted his hardware to extract the stems for the occasion, wizard sergio moreira mastered the challenge of creating a slower and deeper version of the track, while upcoming madrid talent javier moreno closes the release with a bouncy acid burner. track by track, we build a kommuna of artists who share our insatiable appetite for music discovery, guided by a certain vision of the dancefloor: deep stripped-down grooves, sometimes challenging, always with character.

van kaye + ignit is the dutch duo of ed van kasteren (van kaye) and ignatine bekken(ignit), who joined forces in the city of arnhem during early 1980. while at university, van kaye was the singer of the monomen, a local new wave band. by the end of 1979 he had become more interested in the use of electronics and rhythmic industrial patterns. in april 1980 he released a demo cassette with 30 minutes of his own work titled a slight delay.

after the debut albums from future beat alliance and aardvarck, delsin strikes again with this very deep soulful ambient techno album by dimension 5. until now dimension 5 did have only released one 12, but one which was directly praised by fabrice lig, laurent garnier and others. his album alien artform holds both deep, ambient like techno to listen to (think: john beltran & detroit escalator company) as well as more dancefloor-aimed material, without losing the soft touch, (think: kenny larkin & aril brikha). this is (detroit) techno as it is meant to be: soulful & deep. should appeal to fans of aril brikha, d.e.s. and the dubbier german techno stuff. tip!
