its been a year or two since we featured a 12- single release from a new project. so hear at bearfunk we are really pleased to be releasing a cracker of a track. -gong bong-. it is from the caribbean house who are a new(ish) italian collective based around the core members of billy bogus & ferderico bologna. the original is one part slo-mo disco, one part psychedelic moondance and one part sci-fi horror movie. the track begins with swirling bass guitar and grinding synth before layering on a waft of sound effects and spooky keys. if the first two thirds of the track is a caterpillar then the last third is a butterfly as uplifting riffs and swirls of layered keys bring things to a crescendo. fellow italians the mushrooms project are up on remix duty first of all. they strip back the layers and concentrate on the growling bass and locked on pulsating synth. its back to the uk for the second remix where label honcho stevie kotey gets his percussion out for a drum, timpani and swing remix. stay tuned for more from the collective on bearfunk shortly.

these obscure shellac 78t have managed to cross about 70 years without brakes or sand damages. this fine selection of very rare and never released sides on vinyl are coming right away from jamaïca in the early 1950-s !

great new four track ep featuring some super cool disco rarities hailing from the islands of the caribbean. worth the price of this 12 inch alone is the fantastic and über-rare *naussaus discos* by mucho plus, an awesome remake of the beginning of the end classic and a floorfiller so in-demand it features in discogs top ten of most expensive records ever sold. this is followed by a great funky steel drum cover of the roy ayers classic *cant you see me* by trinidadian artist boogsie taken from his hard-to-find 1979 lp. next up is *sweetie* by manhattan charlies roots which is a barbadian disco take on bunny macs afro classic *let me love you* and then rounding things up nicely is the super hot *hands up* by casual t, a soulful disco boogie jam originally out on a mega rare jamaican 7 inch. superb!

stunning new package with a deep, melodic and belearic minded nu disco track by maria basanov and remixes from ilya santana (balihu), who adds some strings for that special kind of magic, nick cachona with a faster dubed out take aiming right at the floor and a italo funk rework by ichisan.

it’s now pretty obvious that disco influence has not only been powerful in western clubs. it has also influenced musicians all around the world, and west-indies islands are no exception to the rule. indeed, at that time in the caribbean territories, local musicians and producers seized the sound of their us counterparts, and make it their own, melting-up disco, funk, and boogie (even early rap) elements with some more traditional or local styles. apart from some obvious titles which made it to the charts, very few was known on these productions until recently. from an initial pre-selection of 40 tracks, favorite recordings and waxist teamed up to narrow down the actual tracklist. with no pretention to be exhaustive, this selection represents a tiny sample of a broader ocean of quality caribbean disco/boogie tunes. favorite recordings & waxist are very happy and proud to bring back lights on some of these rare tunes.
