a heart from your shadow is the debut collaborative lp from michael beharie (new york) and teddy rankin-parker (chicago). since graduating together from oberlin college, beharie and rankin-parker each veered into markedly different avenues. beharie joined up with the ever-confounding new york ensemble zs (northern spy, the social registry). rankin-parker became an on-demand cellist for his prowess in the work of improvisation and avant-garde music, lending his talents to a wide array of collaborators such as primus, iron & wine, steve reich, and pauline oliveros. rather than jump into stream-of-concious improvisation, beharie and rankin-parker chose to focus the albums themes via intricately composed pieces. a heart from your shadow could be described as protest music, brimming with intense energy, harrowing anxiety, and steadfast optimism. produced by michael beharie, mixed carefully by jim o rourke, mastered by james plotkin and cut to lp at d&m berlin. black virgin vinyl housed in poly-lined inner sleeve in reverse board-printed double-width spine jacket with spot uv finishing. first pressing of 300 copies.

this may sees climbers & teddy wong collaborate on a moody single entitled it s all about house ep , featuring remixes from haze-m, ekai & baum, recalde and andre vii. over the last couple of years, mexico s climbers has been releasing on get physical, bunny tiger, and turbo, not to mention touring the globe playing shows in europe, north america and south america. meanwhile, fellow compatriot and rngds music founder teddy wong has been making his mark with releases on desert hearts and monotonik. joining them on remix duties is tunisian artist and haze music boss haze-m, a collaboration between viva s ekai and elrow s baum, lost beach club resident recalde and platino founder andre vii. it s all about house opens with rattling drums before a booming bassline and tantalizing synths join a murky male vocal, leading into the rhythmic haze-m remix with its menacing synth that evolves into floating melodies. next up, ekai & baum s remix is an all-out acid roller, leading into deeper territories with recalde s percussive and twisted remix until andre vii s syncopated version chops up the lyrics until they re almost unrecognizable.

teddy douglas of the basement boys is long time creator and innovator of soulful house music since 1986 ­ based out of baltimore, maryland by the early 90 s teddy and team had created hits for many american dance appealing artists including michael jackson, paula abdul, crystal waters and their breakout uk hit for ultra nate. subsequently in 1994 the basement boys record label was launched. the basement boys have continued to dominate their sound, and teddy has now decided to branch out into more artist oriented projects ­ got all his friends together and created a musical masterpiece. retro soul features lead vocalist marcell russell the baltimore soul singer has been compared to such greats as luther vandross, donny hathaway but his own original distinct style shines through now teamed with super producer teddy douglas known as the voice of baltimore, marcell has 4 previous albums and in 2007 and his band the truth first teamed with teddy douglas to produce the debut cd hopes up too high now back together again this brand new collaboration delivers a wonderful uplifting journey inspired by the kenny gamble leon huff years of philadelphia international records aptly titled retro soul
