mit »it’s my life« gelang talk talk der durchbruch. das album ist weniger synthetisch, dafür emotionaler und sorgte so auch für einen weltweit kommerziellen erfolg. »it’s my life« wurde sogar von no doubt gecovert und erreichte 2003 die top 10 der us billboard hot 100 und blieb dort für 28 (!) wochen. das album beinhaltet auch die single »such a shame« und »dum dum girl«.

das debut-album »the party’s over« wurde 1982 veröffentlicht und von colin thurston produziert, der sowohl mit david bowie als auch mit duran duran zusammengearbeitet hat. der einmalige sound ist ein klassischer synth-pop mit lyrischen tiefen. inklusive den hits: »mirror man«, »talk talk« and »today«.
