the inimitable cc:disco! has partnered with hyped underground label soothsayer to curate the first in a collaborative series of compilations entitled first light. soothsayer presents first light: volume 1 compiled by cc:disco! is due for release in february 2018 digitally and on vinyl. australias reigning champion of tasteful electronic music, cc:disco! has procured exclusive tracks from emerging and undiscovered artists across genres such as boogie, balearic, funk, disco and house with each sound piquing her interest, culminating in a finished product that would undeniably slot into a cc:disco! set. her mission statement? less chin stroking, more dancing. it captures what cc:disco! is all about: the dancefloor. the very first taste of first light comes in the form of a salty and sweet track called really want that by jace xl. premiered via resident advisor, cc:disco! explains: i remember the first time i heard jace sing in a bar, at first i thought a dj was playing then i looked up see jace singing his guts out. he blew me away! jaces voice is amazing and to me, a huge part of whats going on in australian music, so its with open arms we welcome him to first light. staub comes back on wax for a third episode. following the no name policy from the parties which started 5 years ago in it is time again for unknown artist to shine. this new ep sees the shy producer appearing on 4 tracks of pristine techno. a1 is an atmospheric trip while a2 is more brutal, on the b side it is going weirder and darker. we think unknown artist tries to craft interesting techno cuts and that he loves variety. that it is the idea behind staub since its beginnings, it does not matter whether you are a newcomer or lady gaga, what matters is the quality of the music. this is what was again aimed with this third record.

following releases on labels such as greco-roman, ttt and templar sound, dro carey (eugene ward) returns to the scene with his new offering, the industrious yet delicate track queensberry rule featuring the vocals of ku&#268,,ka, taken from his dark zoo ep, out now via australian label soothsayer. where his previous releases have been firmly focused on the smoke-riddled clubs, queensberry rules sees dro carey traverse new territory. working with ku&#268,,ka and collarbones marcus whale on the track, queensberry rules sees the sydney producer creating a unique pop sound, however maintain the gritty dna that he is so distinctively known for.

following up the inaugural release by glos, escapism 002 is a mesmerizing two- tracker by one of leipzig s most talented producers, talski. he is part of the institut fuer zukunft crew, co-runs dur records and also performs rare live sets together with his friend perm as pandt. soothsayer shows why analogue production skills are still highly appreciated in contemporary dance music. by limiting himself to only a few machines, talski manages to create addictive and reduced tracks that focus only on the essentials. this comes especially apparent on soothsayer i which although stripped back, builds tension, has atmosphere and is driving. soothsayer ii is more evolved. straight enough to keep people on the dance floor, yet with a fragile and melancholic beauty to it, that sticks with you long after leaving the club.

last year, an enigmatic name seemed to appear out of thin-air. sam weston was apparently a fresh upstart in the australian house-scene releasing a dusty collection of late-night/early-morning jams aptly titled shiraz voyager. with this rose-tinted house release in hand, weston arrived on the scene and people took notice. the tape sold out within weeks. thing was, sam weston was not a fresh-face at all. he was here all along, although more commonly known as one half of influential sydney techno duo – alba. lorded for their brand of live-fire robotic grooves, alba became trailblazers in a town more miami than berlin, where brooding and rolling hypnosis weren’t often preferred to fist pumping “bangers”. wanting to flex his lovin’ spoonful of hypnotic lo-flung house, weston decided to release a handful of edits on his soundcloud. immediate attention was conjured and sam weston released the aforementioned shiraz voyager ep to a pretty amazing response. almost overnight, australia had a new hero in weston’s warm compositions that summon memories of sunny days and happier times.

red earth records presents a new six-track ep. responding to popular demand, the title track >we re not leaving< is here presented in a radio-edit version (side 1, track 1), after having been released in an extended version last year on 7 inch vinyl. this will be plugged on uk radio this summer combined with a uk and european tour, preceding the release of the new soothsayers album in september.

futureboogie continue to shine a spotlight on bristol’s ever-burgeoning music scene, with an ep from natural sugars, backed with a firing remix from accomplished lithuanian dj, manfredas!

this album has been many years in the making. around 2005 we were gigging, playing hip hop breaks and supporting acts like krs-one and raekwon. we wrote a lot of our own material, but we never properly recorded it in a studio, we did however make lots of -one mic- recordings onto a mini-disk player. tom kept hold of all of these recordings and in 2011 send copies of everything to the rest of the band. a short list of 30 were chosen to record properly. a basic studio was booked, and recording began, initially it was pretty basic, just drums, bass & keys with guitars overdubbed the following day. with these foundation rhythm tracks tom went away and edited them, creating structure, extra layers and demo mixes. these demo mixes were used to send to mcs. it was decided to go with american mcs as the type of thing we listened to when we wrote a lot of our material was classic 90s hip hop. el da sensei & sadat x were the first to respond to our request, and soon features were flying through ever other week. we actually had enough material for 2 albums, but picked what we wanted to represent our first release and continued to develop the material, including adding session musicians for harps, brass, strings and cuts. we chose 4 tracks to create videos for and got the ball rolling with various video makers. the final year was spent mixing, sequencing and deciding on artwork. the title cinder hill is reference to where the band spent many afternoons practicing at john & joe’s parent’s house, their mum maggie passed away in 2016 and the album is dedicated to her for her endless support and love for the music.

analogue, one of the main techno projects in athens (greece), steps up into the vinyl world in order to offer quality dancefloor techno music. the debut release is taking place with one of france’s fresh & hot producers, birth of frequency. three driving, hypnotic, full of bass tracks that will work on any dancefloor.
