uk techno founders b12 return! the duos history famously started in the early 90s with their music appearing under a plethora of monikers under the b12 records umbrella - 12 inch vinyl with notorious cryptic messages engraved in the run-out grooves, before being collected into album form and release on warp. after a hiatus in the late 90s, the pair resurfaced briefly for some live shows, a flurry of hugely sought-after 12 inches and a 7-part cd anthology. they then abruptly disappeared again - this is their first appearance in 5 years, fittingly on glaswegian imprint soma. (their seminal warp records album was named electro soma...is there a connection?)

soma are proud to present the debut album from one of techno’s most prolific and renowned producers, tensal. as one half of the duo exium, hector sandoval has already carved out a career in techno spanning over 20 years, with countless release on their self-run nheoma, warm up recordings & pole group, to name but a few. in 2014, he started the tensal project as an outlet for his own productions which allowed him the scope of pursuing the more direct and minimalistic approach with his music and also his djing. after hooking up with the soma camp in early 2017 and releasing a collection of well-refined singles, tensal delivers his debut album, graphical. searching to go beyond the realm of standard techno, tensal lends his considerable production experience to this project and creates a sophisticated and immersive album experience that flows gracefully between idm and techno.

portuguese techno star lewis fautzi returns to soma with another earth shattering release as he drops the molecular spasms ep. the young producer once again shows great depth and knowledge with 4 straight up dance floor killers all set together his unique, futuristic sound.

soma welcome back long time collaborator tony scott under his edit select alias with the bridge. having recorded such classics as x-track under percy x, tony has since found new depths with his edit select moniker which has seen countless releases on his own self titled label and more. with an album currently planned for release on soma in early 2018, edit select takes his first steps onto his hometown label with this new single.
suitably deep production is always the order of the day with any edit select release and this one is no different. title track, the bridge, begins with a chugging beat before gradually undulating into epic soundscapes. flux takes a darker turn as twisted synths resonate throughout the typical atmospheric backdrop. tonalist creates more rhythmic scenes with intense percussive elements keeping the track moving.

soma500 is a very special release that sees label heads slam visit two memorable tracks for them over this past anniversary year. the duo of stuart mcmillan & orde meikle rework robert hoods, the bond we formed - taken exclusively from the soma25 compilation and a track that has featured highly in countless sets, a unique slam rework of carl craig’s interpretation of delia gonzalez & gavin russom’s, relevee.

in 1988, on the eve of a two decade civil war, somalia s authoritarian ruler siad barre launched punishing air strikes on the north of the country, known today as somaliland, in response to agitations for independence. the bombing leveled the entire city. barre targeted radio hargeisa to prevent any kind of central communication system that could organize a resistance. with the attack imminent, a few brave radio operators and dedicated vanguards of somali culture knew the archives, containing over half a century of somali music had to be preserved. thousands upon thousands of cassette tapes and master reels were quickly removed from the soon-to-be targeted buildings. they were dispersed to neighboring countries like djibouti and ethiopia, and buried deep under the ground to withstand even the most powerful airstrikes.

soma proudly present the first in an exciting series of releases to celebrate 25 years at the top of electronic music as we turn to some of our favourite modern artists to reinvent some of the best from the back catalogue and up first is envoy s timeless classic, dark manoeuvres. originally released as part of the “coalition ep” in 1996 (which also featured the classic seawall), hope grant’s instantly recognisable hit is still found in nearly every techno dj’s record box and has continually served as a beacon of soma since it’s release. four new versions are served up here as dax j, norman nodge, obscure shape & shdw plus tensal all deliver fine interpretations of this soma classic.

london-based producer and dj warren brown, also known as wbeeza, has written three exclusive tracks for arma at his studio in peckham. the psychosomatic ep is named after its intense, dancefloor-oriented title track and will be released on arma. the vinyl, with accompanying cover artwork created by moscow surritualist protey temen, will hit major online retailers in march 2015.

next up on shipwrec is umwelt, an accomplished electronic musician who used to release on new york electro label satamile as well as the likes of kommando 6, and his own labels new flesh and fundata.

in what is a momentous occasion for soma records, we hit the milestone 400th release of the label and who better to see this in than label heads slam as they lead up to their new album due to drop this october. soma are proud to present the double a sided rotary/catacoustics. slam have been locked away in the studio these past months working hard on their latest album which sees them look to past machines and new technologies to form the base of this new album. these album sessions have spawned two raucous tracks that state where the veteran producers are with their sound. these tracks have the dance floor firmly in mind and display the years of experience slam have in knowing what exactly will whip up a storm.

soma proudly launch somabeta, the imprints offshoot tailored for new emerging talent. as part of somas continuing support of new music somabeta will provide an avenue for fresh, upcoming producers to have their work released on scotlands biggest exporter of electronic music, welcoming work from artists around the world. the label commences with an incredible double a-side due for release in january 09. audiofillia are production duo andy dabula from argentina and daniel jaramillo from ecuador. together they create a unique combination of sci-tec atmospheres, sweet latin flavoured grooves and deep melodic sounds. on the flip is somas techno menace, lets go outside. after lgo conducted a mammoth remix competition earlier in 2008 in association with the foem community of young artists, jean ramesse came out as winner and finally makes his soma debut here with his remix of >you make me struggle<. his remix is a thunderous rampage on the original, playing with dynamic in the extreme, toying with your ears until one final, massive jacking session finishes you off
