in celebration of their five-year anniversary, sol asylum is proud to present its fifteenth release on the label. this time around freerotation co-founder and modular synthesis master, steevio delivers a fresh cut of his distinctive modular sound. finishing off the package is a stellar artwork from his partner suzybee that is not only beautifully intricate but delivers an important message. “zephyr” presents steevio’s signature on the fly improvisational approach to creating music in real time with his complex modular set-up. each track presents a different mood of his infectious analogue shuffle, sophisticated melodic lines and ever evolving sequences that will transport the listener directly into the future.

‘neverending story’ opens with ‘a dimension reflected’ and its introductory mixture of keys and beats. the beat is built upon piece by piece, while slippery synths fill in the upper registers. the second track, ‘planet texture’, opens with a blossoming pad which is soon joined by a steady kick and some bouncing synths. before long an adventurous bassline joins in and puts the track into full groove mode. there’s a twinkling synth floating above it all, sometimes present, sometimes not, making you wonder if you’re really hearing it at all. next up is the first track on the b-side, ‘old problems’. filled with little samples and microsounds, the track uses its beat to push through heady and sometimes disorientating array of colours that swirl across the track. a wide synth enters affairs a third of the way in and helps push the track out onto the dancefloor. ‘neverending story’ comes next, featuring a skittering beat and atmospherics that seem to come from far away. a low bassline pops in and out of the track here and there, while pondersome some keys complete the mood. the ep closes with ‘algorithm’, another scrambled, unpredictable track. the track opens with a rainbow of keys and synths, darting between your ears in their affected manner. an almost glitchy ambient track, it brings to a calm close a fantastic release.

the next release from sol asylum was uniquely crafted between julie marghilano and illustrator olga olkaosadzi&#324,,,ska. in this collaborative effort each artist found inspiration in each others work to create and finalize their vision of this release. conjuring beats from the mpc paired with modulated violin and synthesis, julie added a modern twist to the music that originally inspired her to create electronic music. expect the unexpected with the ep titled mercury jasmine and open up your imagination to what flowers would sound like on distant planets.

miss jools finally steps inside with her deep and groovy signature sound with her first ep on sol asylum with a remix from dana ruh. we instantly fell in love with “stepping inside,- this beautifully crafted atmospheric groover is destined to be a timeless gem. followed by dana ruh’s swingy reinterpretation that is finely crafted for the dance floor while still keeping it’s original sophistication. we are definitely not sorry to have this spaced out deep roller with a nice melodic surprise in the middle titled “sorry not sorry.” then wrapping this package beautifully together is “444 marjorie” a more classical approach to deep house but always with a modern twist with a dedication to someone very special to jools.

just in time for our third anniversary we are proud to announce our eleventh release featuring our latest family member pressure point. his invasion of futuristic modular synths combined with old school analog gear immediately abducted us. we welcome him to our tight knit family with open arms to spread his musical prowess with you all. the four-track ep takes the listener on a mysterious voyage through a deep arpeggiated wonderland. bringing a fresh approach by combining the use of older technology and modern production technics, his micro house works of art whisk the listener away through lush melodies and peculiar moods that will help you to fully process his theory.

early support from raresh, akufen, and jan krueger, next up on sol asylum is non other than julie marghilano with her innerspace ep. taking the listener to another dimension of sound, she brings her range of musical knowledge to create a solid package with a stunning remix from fred p. starting things off on a analog journey with “innerspace” we move through an interstellar universe with detailed grooves full of percussive splatters and echoing synths that moves us into a dream like state of mind. conjuring the jazz planet in berlin with“katzbachjazz”you are immediately transported to a galaxy of sound with galloping percussion and a classic techno layout. using more 909 techno drum elements she creates a whirlwind of sound with a delicate touch. taking things a little bit deeper with “cosmic karma” she presents a heavily detailed drum structure full of violin experimentation that creates a dark atmosphere but still bringing an uplifting and joyous vibe. finishing off the package is something unique from fred p who julie asked to remix for her due to her enormous respect for him. the emotionally charged remix of“cosmic karma” shows a different side of fred p while still keeping his signature sound in tact. the remix takes us through an ever-evolving voyage through time and space.

keeping the concept of a tight knit family of artists, up next on sol asylum is the follow up ep for the dilated pupils titled introducing remi. this collective of likeminded artists from the netherlands return to the label with a solid four-track ep that shows their range and diversity as producers. moving full speed ahead we start off with “remi at 21.16” a track that instantly hypnotizes you on the dance floor with its echoing harmonic synths and a complex metallic snare pattern. the track is a slow burner that explodes when the dirty analog kick, swinging bassline, and filtered percussion melt into an atomic fusion. next we take it to the next level with “do” its underwater bubbling percussion, bleeping stabs and eerie synth take us to the far off corners of space with just enough acid to keep our heads down and grooving to the strobe light in a dark room. as we move into fall with “october times” a tightly woven groove and galloping kicks push us into more experimental territory with soaring vintage synths that create tension and finesse at the same time. finally we finishing things off with the esoteric vibes of “suque” this deep and dirty track channels the positive force from another realm, which is the perfect match for the inspiriting concept of sol asylum.

revisiting the artists that started it all, the odd boys return to sol asylum for another full length ep on the label. bringing their known flavor of funk and all things odd, we are happy to present the seventh release on sol asylum filled with >cosmic energy<. vortex shows the boys fine tuned producing skills and showcases their well-developed expertise with analog production techniques to create futuristic sounds. the elegant track takes us to a far off place with traveling basslines and glimmering synths with just enough dirt recorded from their analog tape to get that distinctive odd sound. taking us back to ancient egypt with pyramid we are taken into a thought forming incubator of divine cosmic landscapes with swinging razor blade hats, pulsating synth lines, rolling techno grooves and their signature tweaked percussion. finishing off this planetary trip through the odd galaxy with sphere, we are orbited into an emotional realm with alluring pads that are accompanied by arpeggiated synth lines that levitate you to a state of bliss.

early support from raresh, fred p. julietta, dana ruh!! after a first year of spellbinding releases, sol asylum returns in 2015 with a fresh various artist’s compilation featuring three finely crafted tracks from the sol asylum crew to kick-start the labels second year. bringing together a family of artists who have been there since the very beginning. starting off with the odd boys danny and damian, we go all the way back to the first release with a brand new remix of broken spell. whisking us away to a parallel universe of this odyssey, this remix is masterly conjured into a percussive exploration of the planet of odd. following the odd ones, julie marghilano unleashes another side of sol asylum with dragon drops. she unveils her known atmospheric soundscapes but with a heavily detailed rhythmic twist, made by experimenting with her field recordings to create a more stripped down sound that shows her range and versatility. last but certainly not least, miss jools calima brings the ep to a triumphant closure like a mystical fog. the elements of the track melt into drowning synths with crackling percussion and the elegantly designed grooves that levitate us steadily through the hypnotic melodies. the percussive strength of each track, while still being diverse links this collaboration of like-minded family members together as a cohesive potion.

>sleduyushly< or who is next on sol asylum is anton zap. we are pleased to be closing out 2014 with the delightfully well-crafted deep house that resonates within anton. we start with talking a simplistic yet deep and ever-evolving atmosphere with peculiar echoes and noises that speak to us through constantly moving metallic percussion. next rublewood with its trotting wooden clicks and oscillating claps we morph through the track until the euphoric themes expand bringing us to the next level. in my lesson, anton channels a 90s ambience with a definite feel for funk. arpeggiated synths with just a hint of acid mixed with harmonic pads and unconventional horn riffs bring this eccentric soundtrack together. finally her lesson brings us to more experimental territory with a futuristic outer galactic journey through space and time where a metronomic kick, walking bassline and gleaming pads transport us to another dimension.

tokyo’s yoshinori hayashi makes his debut on lovers rock with “asylum,” an ep of deliciously bent avant-house and free jazz-esque voyages. hayashi has been making a name for himself as a formidable studio talent, and on “asylum” he offers some of his finest work to date. “agent dissolving device” welds louche narration, kaleidoscopic atmospheres and an energized girl-group hook to an earworm groove. an invaluable tool for adventurous djs, “so wrong it’s right” doesn’t begin to describe it. meanwhile, the b-side is given over to hayashi’s more sombre, quasi-chamber music leanings. “burrow” and “the old man” both use wheezing, wandering piano figures to articulate a mournful, bleary-eyed beauty that seems to flicker in the shadows of the a-side’s extroversion.
