label boss nachtbraker is finally making his solo debut on quartet series after a successful ep last year on heist recordings. widely known for exploring different sounds and angles with his productions, this record is the most club-orientated to date. intricate ghetto house with a slight french touch to straight up 4x4 with a pinch of jacking flavour would be an accurate description of this release. the use of 90s hip hop samples within this auditory concoction successfully highlights nachtbrakers excellent ear for detail and penchant for exciting, eclectic and downright weird changeovers. the main hitter taking over the full a side is the title track small towel people. an uplifting bass line accompanied by heated 909 percussion and a hypnotic thriving arp to seal the deal. on the flipside, youll find kippendijen on the b1. a heavyweight in the house category, some glimpses of early days jacking house and a little french touch on the filter. throw in a breakdown even houdini wouldnt be able to handle and youll find yourself putting this track on repeat. then when the needle hits the b2 groove, zomaar kicks off with an energetic mpc style breakbeat before morphing into a deep jam of lush chords and a thrusting 4x4 beat. the track closes after switching back to the first part of the record and ends in a sublimely deep and dubby breakbeat.

smallpeeps doing the crystal fandango. after a little while, just and julius are back on wax with a fresh three-tracker, that was well tested on the road by some close friends for quite a while- and it was about time to put out this groover right in time for the summer. as always it comes with a full cover artwork by stefan marx.

smallville records celebrate their 10th anniversary with the 3rd and 4th part of the „ways series. it started in 2011 with twentyfour ways (smallville 24)- a various artists 4 track-12 with timeless music only. it continued in 2013 with smallville 35 (thirtyfive ways) same concept, but different artists.

as its getting cold outside, this music makes me warm inside! the nights are getting longer, stars are shining bright-it is time for the season of real deepness again. smallpeople come along with another joint in splendid house music to welcome wintertime. dionne and julius steinhoff had an enormous success with their meadows ep together with christopher rau on smallville in last years autumn. that smallpeople issue has been celebrated by all the deep house buddies such as fred p, jus ed, dj koze and lawrence, mcde, xdb, rndm, etc- and it was included on some great compilations, like the timeless mix by lawrence on cocoon or gilles smith 10 years of secret sundaze cd

due to their stunning releases on underground quality and laid the smallpeople aka julius steinhoff and dionne are back with a real smasher. this time they catched up christopher rau who will be releasing his debut album on smallville very soon. the results of the dreamteam’s jamsessions are gorgeous: two never to stop tunes which will light up the dancefloor with unforgetable hooklines. representing the smallville parties in hamburg, berlin, paris and tokyo the test pressings of this double a-side already created pure magic. meadows is reduced to the essential, produced to the max - a track on point, the way deeper life aquatic is none the less delightful. wont leave your box forever.

when the smallville record store was founded in 2005, people were surprised and regarded it as an experiment. everybody discussed the downfall of vinyl sales and the upcoming market of downloads these days. just a bunch of people regarded record shops, vinyl labels and wonderful warm sounding clubs as the places of true magic. smallvilles finest stefan marx, who is responsible for all artwork-related things and therefore the visual impact that smallville always had, got a call once at night from another one of those dreamers and activists, ata macias. he came up with the fabulous idea to create a standard 12inch cover saying: vinyl kills mp3.

the late steve reid, veteran jazz drummer and percussionist, and kieran hebden (four tet), the british electronic musician/producer young enough to be his grandson, present the fifth and final installment of their momentous synergy. the music on this double cd was recorded in concert on 20 june 2009 in the foyer of the queen elizabeth hall at london s southbank centre, as part of the meltdown festival curated by free jazz legend ornette coleman. for this marathon workout, reid and hebden were joined by swedish power saxophonist mats gustafsson, whose fiery blowing style had inspired kieran to seek out a drummer like steve to work with in the first place. live at the south bank stands as a memorial to a thrilling and productive partnership sadly cut off in its prime.
