it s been a little while since we last heard from donnell knox, but he s back in action finally on his regular haunt sonic mind with some of that evergreen us techno tackle that he s forged a long and winding career out of. -no time- is steeped in the smoky pads of the motor city, with a rugged rhythm section and errant bleeps thrown in to seal the deal. -rat race- takes things in a more housey direction, but there s still a certain mysticism that reaches beyond the average club banger. -sick mind- continues the theme, but ties more knots in the programming to make for another essential slice of techno, and then -repetition- finishes the job with a razor sharp slice of sky-scraping hardware science.

this is the first release from the sm records label which introduces you a great musical producer from russia, egor zakharov creating his music under the name of kip5. the places release consists of 4 pieces of his own played in dub techno style. the release is opened by a mysterious piece charming in its serenity, «here» which smoothly flows into a romantic, very gentle «there» track. at the other side of the release, you will continue your travelling to the «somewhere» composition which has pronounced deep sounding. at last, your exciting travelling will finish to the atmospheric «nowhere» track which can help you get rest, relax, and have a cup of coffee. while listening, you ll visit all those wonderful places and come back in great spirits. egor zakharov tells about his release: we often dream to be there, in a perfect place, where we, as we believe, must be, escape from ourselves and try to start a new life. as a result, we chance to be somewhere, and this place doesn t meet our expectations. then it occurs to us that there is nowhere to find it, and the only thing we can live for is something we have here and now.

london based label sm-ll presents its first main label 12 inch release from label owner martin j thompson, a.k.a pokk! with remix by yves de mey (sandwell district, line, spectrum spools).

the 1978 record, which goes for up to $800 on the collectors market, comes with a lore all its own. the liner notes explain that at the time of its recording, davis was suffering from personal turmoil and a head full of memories from the vietnam war. the infamous jonestown, guyana mass murder occurred two days before the recording session and weighed heavily on his consciousness. the resulting electronic score would garner attention from legendary motor city dj electrifying mojo. in the early 80s, davis performed as 3070 in cybotron alongside juan atkins, laying the groundwork for detroit techno and electro with cuts like alleys of your mind. despite successful cybotron albums released on fantasy records, davis spent time penniless and abandoned in a v.a. hospital. the new 12inch version of methane sea was cut to lacquer straight from the original master tapes. davis currently lives in ypsilanti, michigan and works with music videos, fractal designs and cgi.

tina m. howell is the truth. in 20 years she has wore many hats. poet, monologist, vocalist, songwriter, she has played with some of the best known and unknown talent in the city of chicago todd e. swope is a producer, arranger and composer from chicago, illinois. todd is a multi instrumentalist that has a variety of eclectic music influences ranging from jazz, blues,reggae,hip-hop,rock,funk, folk and dance music. major influences include john coltrane, jimi hendrix, bob marley, muddy waters, curtis mayfield, prince & bob dylan. the chicago native embraces the diverse music and culture of chicago. this love of music and culture helps define the sound that is chi-town gumbo. in underground disco circles, us crate digger rahaan young is considered something of an unsung hero. a formidable dj and talented producer, the windy city veteran has forged a reputation as one of chicago s finest underground exports.

stephane lefrancois & jameson gilvarry team up for the latest 12inch from the secret music label and find inspiration from a canine icon of space travel. laika is named in honour of the first cosmonaut dog, depicted here on the cover art and lefrancois and gilvarry convey her journey through an uplifting, rolling techno cut that doesn t seem to stop building. complementing the original is a remix from dantiez saunderson who strips down the groove, while giving it a swung, offbeat feel. staying true to the original, this version also introduces another layer of melodic synths, extending the journey, making it deeper and moody. the booming, clean low end and bouncy high end keep the groove propelling forward.
