soma welcome manchester born - berlin based setaoc mass for his label debut with the “surface for air ep”. a longtime favourite of the soma camp, sam’s high energy techno and creative style has been sought after for some time. with some huge releases on his own sk11 imprint, sam delivers four devastating, club ready weapons.
sam’s driving style is prevalent on all 4 tracks yet he still injects a dose of emotion in each as twisted sequences and ambient, ethereal soundscapes are peppered throughout giving each one a unique, distinctive sound.
setaoc mass fourth record for figure displays a level of maturity an artist this young rarely inhabits. two tracks feature his ability to craft finely layered idm, showing another perspective of the ideas behind the cavernous techno taking up the rest of this ep. nestled between the electronica-pieces is torque, heavy yet undeniably beautiful with its big breaks towards ascension, moving effortlessly despite its weight. things turn serious on the flip side, bursting with bleeps and bulging beats. b1 is a slowly swelling beast with many heads, twisting and turning ceaselessly along its 6-minute runtime, never once letting the tension decline. spiraling inwards for a full-on mind trip, search lights is that key track to drop in the murkiest, darkest hour of the night, one that cuts through relentlessly and unites whatever is left of the dancefloor for one last frenzied commotion.
solid void ep is setaoc mass sixth release on sk_eleven following from the reframe ep which came in december. the british producer plays to his strengths and delivers four tracks - rich in depth, texture and hypnotism. “light” falls opens the ep with its gentle ambience combined alongside welcoming, warm synth-lines. a2 and b1 “true lies” and “eurythmic” both take the tougher route, brandishing two cuts of tough techno sam is known for, always ready for the peak-time. the ep is wrapped together with a signature electro excursion “jenagan sivakuma” - rife with euphoria and groove.
involve records presents a brand new various artists ep compilation with four of the most exciting names in the techno scene. non others than truncate, cleric, setaoc mass and victor santana submit a must-‐,,,,,,have 12inch with some proper -‐,,,,,,acid-‐,,,,,, techno infused tunes. a strong team that brings the solid vibe together in the 19th record of the label.

berlin-based mancunian setaoc mass returns to his own sk_eleven imprint with now the fourth outing. confirming the label s emergant position as the home of purist, highly-distilled club weapons, see through marries a muscle-bound groove to arching synth strings and sci-fi encentricities for a hypnotic juxtaposition, followed closely by passive - another roller to completely loose yourself in. flipping over, the producer explores a dystopian wasteland populated by cavernous reverb-drenched claps and a nagging, mutant synth chord, whilst disrepair flaunts coates budding trademark electro strut, with bellowing kicks, crisp snares and futuristic undertones all in check.
figure is excited to present the first outing of what might soon prove to be one of techno’s most promising collaborations. while seatoc mass’ two pristinely crafted eps have already left their mark on the label, matrixxman has been turning heads across the scenes with his exceptionally prolific track record. drawing upon common thoughts on futuristic themes and their respective strengths as producers from different continents, their joint effort clearly conveys one distinct approach, yet unites the seemingly opposite. regardless of being no-nonsense dancefloor-weapons, the four tracks still brim with detail, their vibrant elements communicating playfully. on their shared ep these artists have struck a rare balance. they delicately hover between the spacious and the claustrophobic, the modern and the classic, the stern and the elated - while never losing focus of their mutual mission.
manchester-born, berlin-based producer setaoc mass returns to his own sk_eleven imprint with his third outing on the cycles ep. here we see the artist’s propulsive brand of techno take on an extra dynamic, starting with the muscular, mind-warping drive of cyber taking control, kunfus reverts back to a highly purified, galvanising techno groove, coalescing crisp percussion and a perpetual stomp to devastating effect, whilst turning over the sci-fi indebted structured deceit adds to the strong release with its mesmerising melodies and ceaseless energy. finished of by the more downbeat, reverb-drenched, insulated mindset of escape from you.
following up on his exceptional 12″,,, debut numb (figure 73) earlier this year, seatoc mass delivers another ep of finely tuned and highly diversified techno deep space explorations. starting on an atmospheric note, cipher’s intricate melody winchingly twists its way under your skin while airy breakbeats faintly hint at the producer’s uk roots. in contrasting fashion the bleep- driven lost lakes sticks to its metronomic stomp, making for a simple yet utterly effective tool. choral howls and detuned synths merge on transform for a gentle yet trance-inducing introduction to the flipside. emotive highlight rain then sees the manchester producer sonically recreate a thundering storm, complete with flashing strokes of lightning and a downpour of celestial scale. the breakbeat returns on closer flying buttress, albeit now at much faster tempo, exploring the common ground between futuristic grime and techno. blending all these different styles and their distinctive tropes in a coherent statement is a feat not easily accomplished. yet here seatoc mass pulls it off again, developing further the confines of both his personal and the label’s sound.
label head setaoc mass returns to his own fledgling sk_eleven imprint with the much-anticipated second chapter ep. true to form, the release deals in bleeps and melodic sci-fi indebted elements, yet with a harder impact and a sense of urgency calibrated for the main room floor. b-side cut thunder bay ventures into new territory for the artist, diffusing coarse, broken rhythms over ominous call and response synth riffs.
dyad present the first instalment of their common purpose series. christian wünsch sets the tone with *fluid mechanics*, a masterclass in dynamics and repetition. this is followed by *binary*, a hypnotic warehouse techno cut by up-and-coming uk producer setaoc mass. on the b-side argentinian producer mental resonance contributes a sophisticated arpeggiator-led cut with *reduction* and to round things off is reflec, another highly promising uk producer who weighs-in with his industrial techno destroyer*the war horn*.
figure 73 introduces a new face to the family - manchester-bread and now berlin-based setaoc mass. after recently launching his own imprint sk_eleven and putting out several releases that already tread in figures lineage of modern, high-precision techno, the label is thrilled to get this promising new artist on board. the five-tracker shows setaoc mass at his most versatile yet and clearly displays the producers talent for constructing both strong atmosphere as well as sheer dance-floor effectiveness.
