those familiar with the world of dub disco and modern balearica should know all about layne fox, a san francisco-based producer who has released some killer records over the last decade as part of noted collective 40 thieves. the bay area ensemble has been responsible for some killer records, including gems on rong music and leng, who released their expansive debut album the sky is yours back in 2014. now, fox has decided to go it alone for an outing on magic feet that marks his first solo outing since 2005 s move me under the tuffy alias. its something of a gem, too, effortlessly combining many of his familiar influences with nods towards druggy italo-disco and horizontal pop.

innovator is a pretty strong word but we believe it really is the only one that will do as we at future reactions very proudly present the one and only boo williams. born and bred in chicago and inspired by house musics true greats - we are talking larry heard, lil louis, marshall jefferson and co., of course - williams has already enjoyed a long and illustrious career as both a dj and producer with numerous essential and seminal releases for some of the underground’s most distinguished labels, relief records, ovum and track mode to name but three. now we warmly welcome him to our stable with his spiritually runnin ep featuring the eponymous title track and last chance, two cuts of beauteous, textured, soul-warming house music that are proper deep too. just the way we love it.
starting things off we have runnin out, a mid-tempo memphis horn-led beauty of a track originally out in 1968. soulbrigada take the original, toughen up the bottom end, add in kicks, claps and percussion and the odd filter, speed things up a tad and lengthen the track getting the most out of mable john s effortless and gargantuan diva-esque vocal delivery. on the flip we have another soulful treat with a killer rare groove cut from 1971. originally recorded by lee sain (and arranged by charles miller) soulbrigada extend the intro, add in drums, samples and effects all adding to a truly infectious groove and vocal that will have you screaming out for more.
here is another seminal chicago disco record straight from the vault of past due records - jerome derradji still musics beloved disco division. the story behind this 70s disco hit from lonnie givens and pick of the litter is more than impressive. originally released on 7 by mason records around 77/78, runnin to a disco quickly became one of the first chicago disco classic.
