roots underground records was born out of pure love for pure house in 2012. their third instalment on wax, “riccardo vs ricardo // italia to chicago” is a split 12” with each side exploring the more exotic frontiers of that wholesome house sound.

chicago’s own ricardo miranda is back on neroli with his latin soul brothas project. this time exploring the deeper sides of his sound with jams like ‘moog sessions’, ‘dizzy vibes’ and ‘friday grooves’. while ‘otra voz’ recalls some of his previous latin influenced tracks on neroli.

born in the distinctively puerto rican neighborhood of lincoln park chicago, ricardo was named after legendary salsa singer ricardo ray. after major puerto rican displacement (urban renewal) ricardos parents settled in the noble square section of west town for many years. his music reflects a traditional house culture that goes beyond just sound or legendary stories. while his industry peers recite fond memories of the music box, the bismark and other musical institutions – ricardo sat in front of a big pioneer radio listening & recording mixes from chicago radio stations wrrg, wbmx am/fm & wgci which included a hefty dose of early house music, italian imports and electro. but, it was the new sound of chicago house that made a profound impact on his soul.

the record is dedicated to quality house music, touching the deepest jazz realms with the song *spiritually captured* by glenn underground and on the flipside the wonderful *how i feel* by isoul8 that features the genius kaidi tatham on keyboards, licensed from the neroli records catalogue and remastered for the event. also on the b side a wild collaboration from isoul8 & ricardo miranda, a real futuristic track for the headz!

chicagos ricardo miranda makes his debut for the ace stilove4music label, maintaining a fine year in which he has already dropped some serious heat on rush hour sub-label hour house is your rush and his own noble square imprint. title track >102point7< is all jagged synths, throbbing arpeggios, slashing claps and a rolling acid groove, marking it out as one of his most incendiary productions to date. on the flip >rotary cells< is deeper still, a 909-led jacker with undulating layers of sub bass augmented by a wonderfully woozy vocal which extols the virtues of true chicago house. this is followed by >greenline<, a stripped back jam with scuttling hats and the kind of paranoid synth melody that wouldnt sound out of place in jeff mills something in the sky series. this is dark, raw, pulsating dance music - highly recommended.
